We came here in July and had booked it as a spur of the moment as it was one of the few sites with spaces available. We had originally booked for just three nights but requested an additional night which the site owner was happy to accommodate, even at short notice. We were so glad we stayed. The site is some way off the main road, down a sunken lane which means it is very quiet and free from traffic noise. It is set in a small valley with fields and trees surrounding it which also means it has a lot of wildlife. The owner (Tim) has also re-wilded a lot of the farmland. The site itself has plenty of space, we camped in the stream field where the nearest neighbour was easily 15-20 metres away. Some reviewers would call the site basic but it has everything you could need; The showers were hot and we never faced issues of queuing (in the stream field there is only one shower but we were right next to it - the other field has a small block). The toilet is a composting toilet which may pout some people off but there isn't any real reason why, its great for the environment. The main filed had a proper block with hand sanitser etc. Camp fires are allowed, in fact you are given a fire base by the owner, you can also purchase wood (very cheap). I can't stress enough how beautiful the site is though. There is a lovely nature trail which runs up through the farm where there is a lovely little garden and petting area. Freshwinds is perfect for those with kids as there is oodles of space. It's also 10-15 mins driving distance from Rye, Winchelsea and Hastings. The pub (Great pub with decent food and even better beers/ciders) is only 10/15 mins walk up the lane and there is a cracking butchers about 20 mins walk in the other direction. Despite only having visited once, I have fallen in love with this site and will definitely return! Final thanks to Tim and his wife for what they've done here. Wonderful site and superb owners.

I think its' our fifth visit and we never tire of this stunning camp site. This time I travelled with two girlfriends and three children between us. All the pits are spread out so you do not feel cramped or overlooked but with a big green area in the middle for the children to play safely together, either on the climbing frame or just running free on the grass or swing on the tree swings. There's lots to do for the younger ones, a visit to the farm and its gardens is a must but our two teenagers were also happy, they found friends to play football with and after dark all the kids, big and small were running around with torches chasing each other. However, being family friendly you always get a good nights sleep on this camp site as it gets quiet early which suits us well. The facilities are great with hot showers, sanitiser for your hands in the loos and a clean washing up area. We always take a walk in the woods and usually book in to have a pub meal in one of the local pubs on the last evening as a treat. Tim was great and helpful as always, he carried over firewood for us and even jump started my car on our departure as it wouldn't start (second time that's happened to me now, sorry Tim). We will be back again next year for sure.

Just returned from 2 lovely nights camping at Freshfields. The facilities are basic but good the showers were hot every time we used them. The main field is very nice with ample space between pitches and each has its own fire pit and eco fridge! £5 for the biggest bag of logs we have ever bought on a campsite. Happily recommend the farm walk and fairy trail which was a surprise and enjoyed even by a couple in our 40’s. Well located close to Hastings, Rye etc and will visit again when we want to use a base in the area to explore.

We loved freshwinds. It is a lovely site, spacious and both wildlife-friendly and child-friendly. Each pitch has a fire-pit and the site is surrounded by woods and a stream which provide plenty of free-range play opportunities. The fairy trail was great for small children. The only downside, which in many ways was an unexpected positive, was that there was no internet reception.

Our thanks to Tim and Anne for their graceful hospitality (as always). This is our 4th visit and won’t be the last. The campsite is well designed, spacious, quiet and has everything we need. If you want a holiday with a low footprint, this is the place! Compost loos, gas showers, campfires and plenty of space for a 4 year old to run around. We loved our visits to the fairy trail and up into the farmyard to see donkeys, goats, rabbits and tortoises. Perfectly located for days out to Pett Level, Hastings and Rye. After the craziness of the last few months, the simplicity of Freshwinds reminded us of what is really important.
