Searching for a place to stay in the Mae Rim area we found the Unicorn; well, the Monoceros Resort. From the moment we arrived to the time we left (3 nights later) we enjoyed every minute thanks to Paul and his team. This is definitely the place we come back when in the area. And, quite unusual at least for me, we had breakfast and dinner for three consecutive days at the same place: The Monoceros restaurant!

This place is truly amazing! Paul and his staff made us feel so welcome, very warm and friendly people. super relaxed atmosphere.Just relaxing at the pool or in the hammock is also a very good way to spent your time. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to getaway from the busier city life. Just immerse yourself in this amazingly beautiful resort.

I visited Thailand in June/July 2015 and stayed in Monoceros Resort for four days while in Chiang Mai. The peaceful setting is in the mountains outside the city and is close to many attractions (elephant camps, places to ride ATVs, adventure areas, insect museum, two waterfalls, a gorgeous botanical garden, etc). The property just opened in April of this year and the rooms are beautiful. Unlike most of Asia, there was a separate shower area with the entire bathroom tiled with a natural stone. The property was gorgeous with the bungelows placed among the existing trees. Orchids in almost every tree, flowers and plants scattered throughout and a well kept vegetable/herb garden growing in the back. If that wasn't enough, the owners were the best part. They are in the right spot in their life and their passion shows through. They made our stay in Chiang Mai! To sum it up, they couldn't do enough and were happy to do whatever they could. P.S. If you like hot and unique Thai food, order ask for some Essan food! Mom and the chef do it right.

For our stop in Chiang Mai we decided to stay in a more relaxed place a little bit outside the city. We ended up at Monoceros resort and I can tell you it turned out to be a great choice. Monoceros resort is managed by Paul and Arm who will go out of their way to make sure you have a good time. The resort itself is a treat. The rooms are free-standing bungalows with lots of room and a nice bathroom. All the bungalows (we had two of them) are spotlessly clean and very well maintained.
In the back of the resort is a small vegetable garden the herbs that they grow here are used to cook delicious Thai food in their restaurant.
If you want to check out Chiang Mai and its vicinity and like to stay at a place were you can unwind after your activities; this is the place to stay!

Our stay was perfect in every way. Paul was welcoming and informative. The room was spacious and immaculate. The gardens and pool were superb. WiFi was faultless. Paul helped us to secure a very good car hire deal. We would definitely make Monoceros a must if we toured Northern Thailand again.

We stayed at Monoceros for three nights over Christmas and absolutely loved the Mae Rim area. However if we were able to visit again I don't think I'd choose this accommodation. The little 'cabins' are super cute however there are so many basic upgrades that could be made so guests have a better experience. For example the bed is rock hard (like sleeping on the floor), the pillows are also hard and flat with only one per person, the bath towels are frayed, old and the size of a dish cloth, there are holes in the flyscreens, and the shower is cold. The pool area has only four sun loungers so you don't have much chance of a place to relax, and the onsite restaurant is not the best. To top it off we were charged 500 bhat for a ride back to Chiang Mai, the driver was 30 minutes late and he took us to the airport instead of our next hotel. Do yourself a favor and sign up to Grab before arriving in Thailand... if only we'd known it was the best way to travel!

This hotel was a great find that was recommended by a friend. If you are looking for a quiet peaceful escape from Chiang Mai then this is the place. Big plus for me was the Wonderful bed, in fact one of the best sleeps I had in a while. Bathrooms were super clean, water pressure OK for a Thai hotel, check in smooth and TV had a couple of english channels. Without a doubt the big drawcard here was the staff. All staff go out of their way to assist you and always greet you with a smile. It was also so nice to sit out on your private balcony and listen to the birds in the morning. Breakfast was good, although not buffet there were plenty of options. The only negative for us was the terrible WiFi which always cut out or was extremely weak. Other than the WiFi I would highly recommend as a romantic and peaceful retreat from busy Chiang Mai.

The owner (Paul along with his partner) runs this place with great care - one can see and feel that, along with the team, they fully put their heart into their project. The concept is well thought trough and sets a benchmark to others in the area: perfect service and support (trips & local arrangements), a beautiful setting (cottages around the pool within a beautiful tropical garden) and quality food (both breakfast & à la carte highly recommended). This all comes at fair prices and a very good value for money ratio - also because, besides the natural need to generate income - there is a tengible desire to make guests feel at home. In short: stop looking around, confirm your booking, and have a great time. I'm saying this as a critical tourism professional running my own business. Thank you Paul & team for wonderful days spent at Monoceros Resort!

We stayed at the Monceros Resort for 3 nights. Wish it could have been longer! Our cottage set among the trees adorned with lanterns was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Looking out over the central saltwater swimming pool. The small cosy restaurant had an extensive menu of Thai food from different regions.Could not fault the attentiveness of the staff. Special thanks have to go to the owners Paul and Om. Paul not only arranged our pick up from the airport but met our flight personally and Om was very helpful in arranging transport to take us into Chiang Mai for a tour and for out return to the airport . If you want more than a quiet relaxing time, there are many popular attractions within a few minutes drive or walk from the resort. I have already recommended the Monoceros to friends and family and look forward to returning with the family in the not too distant .

I rate this resort definitely worth visiting. The property and rooms were immaculate and the staff exceptionally accommodating. There are approximately 10 standalone quaint cottages with room and ensuite bathroom. TV and free wifi with breakfast included. Food was delicious and usual beverage assortment including cocktails available. This is located in close proximity to all the attractions like Tiger and Snake parks, Extreme off-road adventure and other activities.
