Situated within the private grounds of Athelington Hall in the North Suffolk countryside, our log cabins are the perfect reason to escape the pressures of urban life and embrace a well-earned break. We are a working farm, which dates back to 1620. Acres of open fields surround the 17th century Hall, complete with a fine avenue of oak trees. We are situated in an idyllic location in North Suffolk, the surrounding area being a haven for wildlife. Wonderful walks in unspoilt countryside unfold virtually from the doorstep. Our log cabins are self-catering and we strive to make sure you have absolutely everything in them that you may need. Each lodge has its own private hot tub to enjoy a star gazing evening with a glass of something bubbly, some with saunas to melt away any tensions and four poster beds to snuggle up in. We have a games room on site with a pool table, table tennis table, air hockey, football table and an Xbox 360 in to keep the children and adults entertained. With an array of wildlife and footpaths right outside your lodge, with or without a pet there are plenty of walks to keep you stress free and enjoy the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Athelington Lodges: We have x5 two bedroom lodges which include one double with en-suite shower room, one twin bedroom and a main bathroom. All of which feature a cosy lounge and dining area, as well as a fully fitted kitchen. All five of our lodges have their own private hot tub on the patio, perfect for unwinding in the evening, listening to the sweet sound of nature. Field View Lodges: We have x4 luxury cabins with two bedrooms whilst the other x2 cabins have one bedroom making them perfect for a romantic getaway or even a honeymoon / minimoon. All have their own private hot tub sunken into the veranda. A couple of our two bedroom cabins also have a sauna in the main bathroom. The one bedroom lodges have a four-poster bed and also have a sauna in the bathroom. These lodges have an open plan living space for the whole family to enjoy. Primrose Lodges: Our newest boutique collection available since mid 2018. We have x2 cabins that are one bedroom with a luxury wing-back kingsize bed, standalone bath in the bedroom with floor mounted waterfall tap, sauna and an open plan kitchen/living/dining area. Detailed Reviews
This is our second visit to Althlington Hall, on this occasion it was a family weekend away.
The location for us is ideal, less than an hour from home.
The cabin was superb, we loved the bright cosy environment, it was clean and well stocked with all the kitchen items required, the added extras like washing up liquid, dish washer tablets and towels make it so easy to move into.
The sauna and hot tub went down well with everyone.
All in all I recommend Athelington Hall lodges to anyone wanting a relaxing break with value for money.
Not one single complaint from any of our group.

We recently visited Athelington Hall log cabins for the second time and had a fabulous stay.
We stayed in Poppy which is one of the Primrose cabins and we really couldn't have asked for a more comfortable and well equipped accommodation.
The decor is neutral and spotlessly clean and was lovely and warm on a rather cold November day! There are three bedrooms with ample storage and the beds are nicely made up. The cabin also has an en suite shower room with the double room and a good sized family bathroom containing a sauna, which my husband really enjoyed.
My family also enjoyed long soaks in the hot tub which is inset on the large veranda.
The kitchen has a spotlessly clean oven and every crockery item or utensil that you could possibly need during your stay.
We particularly like the location of the cabins as they're set in beautiful countryside and it's so nice to wake up to total silence and just gaze out at the rolling fields. However, it's worth noting that you will need to drive even if you want something as simple as a daily newspaper or pint of milk! We drove into the nearby village of Eye a couple of times where there is a small Co Op and also to Diss on the Norfolk border as there is a large Tesco to stock up in.
If you are looking for a real getaway from it all, rural break then this is the place for you. We love it and will definitely be back in the summer!

Dear Zoe, Thank you for leaving a review of your visit. It's lovely to hear that we were able to welcome you back for a second visit and that you will definitely be back in the Summer! We have some future plans to open a shop on-site, this is still in the planning stage but will certainly be a benefit to our guests that want some basic provisions. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We stayed in the Hazel lodge for 2 weeks with our toddler and dog. We had a fantastic holiday. The cabin was very clean, modern and very well equipped. The lodges are private and the setting is beautiful. The lodge was well equipped with all cooking equipment, hoover, clothes airer etc and a pedestal fan which was handy in the heatwave we had. The location is very peaceful and even though a wedding took place on the grounds whilst we stayed there, we didn’t hear any noise at all. The family running it were very accommodating when we asked for a last minute early check in and we also requested clean bedding and towels half way through our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The hot tub was great and we had brilliant decking furniture with cushions and a large parasol for the table. It is rural and even though our phone signal was hit and miss, the wifi was great and didn’t drop out once. We had a really lovely time and will be returning.

After living through the hell of these last few months as Key Workers we were looking forward to a well earned break as a family and after researching several places we settled on Athelington Hall Log Cabins in Suffolk as the place that we usually go to in Norfolk was now fully booked. After reading the reviews our hopes were high, sadly we were dissapointed.
We arrived at Field View Number 2 and collected our key from the key safe and let ourselves in and the first overwhelming thing that greeted us was the amount of flies in the property both dead and alive! We must have swatted 30+ in the first hour and collected up another 30 dead ones which we disposed of, we mentioned it at reception who explained it was a working farm and something that we had to live with and we were issued with some devices to catch flies (that didn't catch a single one) and told there was some fly spray under the sink.
As a result of the fly situation we could not leave any doors or windows open for the 4 days we were there, which on a hot week like this was unbearable.
The actual property itself needs some work, the sink plug jammed the first day and to be fair was rectified quickly by the staff. The DVD player is faulty and the sound goes approximately 50 minutes into any DVD that you watch until you reset the machine, the DVD remote batteries were flat and we replaced these with spares we brought, the TV remote control batteries were flat, the bath in the en-suite leaks when filling from the control to adjust between shower/bath meaning you cannot fill the bath, the cupboard door to the bin cupboard will not close and has to be left partially open in the kitchen meaning it attracts more flies. I could go on.
What i found unforgivable about the lodge was that it had not been cleaned thoroughly, despite a checklist to the contrary. There were cobwebs on the ceiling in the en-suite that had been there some time, water marks and cobwebs at low level next to the radiator in the main bathroom, cobwebs (very thick and well developed) on the wooden posts of the outside decking, water marks and bird dirt on the outside of the doors outside, a line of dirt/scum around the edge of the hot tub and worse of all when we opened the freezer draws, two of the three were filthy and clearly had not been cleaned and had the remnants of the previous occupants rubbish in them. I expect when i stop anywhere in normal times for it to be clean but this was not and worse this was during a pandemic when a deadly virus is spreading and thriving in an environment such as this. Common sense would say that whilst you are closing during lock down then this is an excellent opportunity to go around and "spruce" these cabins up, rectify any faults, give them a good clean but this clearly wasn't the case with our cabin.
On a positive note it was very quiet and peaceful and the staff when we had any dealings with them were helpful and friendly.
The faults i can just about live with but the lack of decent cleaning at a time like this when Coronavirus is still real and still here is unforgivable. The lodge presented as tired, dirty and in need of some work.

Dear Staffy738, We appreciate your feedback left onsite and also here online. Please accept my sincerest apologies that your stay did not meet expectations, this is not our normal standard. The cleanliness points you've listed are being raised with the team and manager who does the site checks prior to guest arrivals. We understand the severity of the current situation and take this very seriously, hence the strict deep cleaning checklist for our cleaning team. The faults on equipment have now been addressed, thank you for bringing these to our attention. We have had a professional out to treat all the cabins for flies and this is being continually monitored. Again, thank you for your feedback as it helps us to improve the service and standard we aim to provide.

Firstly I’d like to say the cabins are lovely. The beds were very comfy. Nice furniture lovely setting. Most nights I walked out into the field with low light pollution and enjoyed the night sky. There where many jokes of how can we take the cabin home and live in it. Due to the pandemic most local attractions were closed and the nearest beach is a 45min drive. Not the fault of the site, but if you have kids something to look into before you book.
Now the negatives they say dog friendly. But only a little while before we arrived received an email saying dogs not aloud on furniture or bed. This was difficult for us as our dog is used to sitting with me on the sofa and sleeps in our bed. Had we know at booking we may of looked elsewhere.
Now here’s the big downside. Due to the virus we had been told that we would have to check in and out earlier then usual so they could deep clean between each guest. Not a problem and completely understand. However up on arrival, to find the milk steamer/frothier still had old milk in it, the expresso machine still had old coffee pods in it, dirty marks on light switches, hair in the bath and dust on cupboards needless to say was a dissatisfied arrival.
On departure we had to strip our own beds and empty bins to reduce the risk to the cleaners while also checking out early.
I will also mention yes we are aware that it is a working pig farm so sadly flies are an issue here.

Originally we should have been going to Lincoln for the Xmas Market but as COVID-19 put a stop to that, we decided to go to Athelington hall instead (very late booking!) We have been before so we know the cabins are well maintained, clean and tidy and the site is nice and quiet
Due to Covid-19 the key for the cabins was left in a key lock on the cabin balcony and the combination/instructions were emailed to me for our arrival. I was actually rang by the lady at the site earlier on in the day too to say that our check in was ready from 3.30pm instead of 5pm as the cabin cleaning had been finished earlier, so I thought that was nice. Great customer service throughout the weekend to be honest, as I had another email on day 2 to check that we had settled in ok and if there were any problems to give them a call. I also had a further email the day after our departure to thank us for our visit
We didn’t use the car at all over the weekend but enjoyed long walks and even longer soaks in the hot tub
We had a very lazy, quiet, relaxed weekend!
On departure, they ask you to strip the beds and leave them in a bag (provided) and to put all used towels in the bath and then pop the key back into the key safe x
The cabins are well maintained and have everything you need so you don’t have to worry at all and there is even a checklist to say what has been cleaned and done prior to your arrival
Would recommend for sure!

This was our 3rd visit and provided us with the much needed rest and relaxation that my daughter and me wanted.
We have both worked and are still working as key workers during this pandemic and was lucky enough to have booked just before the lock down has happened again.
On previous visits we have had days out, however this time we stayed on site and spent our days in and out of the hot tub and enjoying the tranquility of your beautiful location.
We stayed in Daisy - one of the Primrose lodges - which is not only absolutely stunning but also was extremely clean and we felt totally safe that all Covid guidelines had been followed and more.
Check in and out was also contact free.
Thank you so much for a wonderful, much needed break and we will be back February/March next year.
I can not recommend your lodges enough. Paula and Jade.

We came as a group of 6; four adults and two 1 year olds for a short 4 night stay to see in the new year. The cabin was so lovely and the setting is just fantastic, there's a large green area all lit up on night and so peaceful for a morning walk with the dog and a little gated decking area just outside, the inside space isn't huge but there was plenty of room for us all to sit comfortably and enough floor space for the girls to play, the only time things got a little 'cramped' was when we all tried to get ready to leave at the same time but isn't that the case everywhere.
The hot tub isn't on the decking it's just to the side near where you park, it was a lot bigger than we expected and had little steps up to make it easy to get in and out, it isn't covered overhead but the weather was dry and there's well positioned bushes around so that you can't be seen from any of the other cabins and there's a large garden table and bench to sit out. The shower and bath both worked perfectly and there's a small clothes airer for drying off wet clothes and towels. The heating was easy to use and every radiator worked as it should.
I had read the reviews so knew there wasn't options within walking distance for an evening meal and luckily the kitchen has everything you need to cook with, however, we took some silver foil trays so there was less washing up, we did go for a Sunday carvery at The Swan, Fressingfield which was amazing and worth the short 15 minute drive especially if you like a pudding, all home cooked and with such friendly service. There's some nice walks around the cabin but the roads are quite narrow and windy so not all of them are ideal for prams. We also spent new years day at the Banham Zoo which is really nice, hot dogs aren't worth the money but the pizza was OK and if we visited again we would probably take a picnic.
Overall we have had the best time and hopefully will be able to return again soon.

The lodge was clean and had everything we needed and more. In the kitchen was a tray to help us out with tea, coffee, biscuits and milk pots in the fridge - they were all very welcome after a car journey. The kitchen was well equipped with full size fridge freezer, microwave and a range.
There was a sauna in the bathroom, but we didn't use this due to the heatwave when we stayed. A lovely big bath, big enough for 2 and a sunken hot tub on the patio. The 4 poster king size bed was very comfortable and the bedroom had wardrobes and chest of drawers. Wall mounted TV was in the lounge area and 2 very comfortable 2 seater sofas. An electric fan was supplied due to the heatwave which we really appreciated.
We were in the first lodge in the row and each lodge had a sunken hot tub with greenery shielding the hot tub from the next lodge ensuring privacy. One thing we noted was that the lid of the hot tub was light enough to be easily taken off and on by one person.
We actually went there to visit RSPB Minsmere which we did on the way home. Some of the hides were open and we saw plenty of birds. We visited Southwold at the coast, but due to it being busy and with social distancing being very important we didn't stop there.
Due to Covid 19 there was no visitor book to sign, but it was a brilliant lodge, fantastic stay and we knew how to contact reception if needed. We were left in total privacy which was just what we wanted.
We would love to visit again, hopefully when it's not so very hot!

Dear NorthStar100576, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review. The family and team here at Log Cabin Holidays are delighted to hear that your stay met expectations. The Field View cabins have been a lovely addition to the site and the 1 bedroom cabin that you stayed in is beautifully furnished. During your stay the temperatures certainly did rise, so pleased you made use of the fan. Hopefully we can welcome you back again soon, perhaps when it is a little cooler, so that you can make full use of the sauna! Thank you again for your kind words,

+1
We came to the Primrose lodge 'Poppy' for a last minute family break with our one year old and three year old. Overall, it was a nice break and set in a nice location with nothing going on which is exactly what we wanted (please don't consider booking here unless you have access to a car as there is nothing for miles and no public transport). The surrounding fields were great for our little ones to run around in and the hot tub was an added bonus which was used when our children went to bed. The lodge was well equipped with good quality cookware, plates and cups and the welcome basket provided included tea, coffee, milk and sugar sachets. It would have been good if basics such as salt, pepper and vegetable oil were provided.
The lodge was well presented on arrival even though the sofas were a little marked and so were some of the cushions. There was a funny smell in the master bedroom/ensuite bathroom which smelt as though the drains weren't working quite as they should and we noticed that a window in the ensuite bathroom had been left open on arrival, presumably because of the smell. I was quite surprised that we had a problem with flies this time of year and as soon as we opened a door or a window for a little while we did have to get the fly spray out. The lodge was cosy and the heating was efficient so we were never cold and the sauna in the main bathroom was great.
The games room on site was good for older children but wasn't good for younger children, however there is a netted trampoline on one of the fields which my three year old enjoyed. It would be good if more of a 'play area' suitable for younger children could be provided.
We would stay here again in the future and would recommend to friends and family who would like a break in the remote english countryside with the opportunity to drive to traditional english villages in the surrounding area.

Yes. Dog owners are asked to be respectful of others onsite, and lead their dog up if required when walking. You are surrounded by large grass areas and fields for walking. There are two mapped out walks around the site, a blue arrow and a red arrow trail. All the Primrose cabin types and all the Athelington Lodge cabin types have secure deckings with gates. There is also a gate on the decking of the two pet friendly Field View 2 options. The only cabins which do not have a secure gate are the Field View 1 and two of the Field View 2 as we do not offer these cabins as pet friendly. I hope this helps,
The cabins have an electric oven with gas hobs.
The Primrose cabins have a Nespresso machine that takes the original Nespresso coffee pods. We provide a small selection of these in the cabin for you.
Hi Emma,
I would recommend Thorndon Black Horse or Thornham Four Horse Shoes for a great local carvery.
Hello
There is no shop and I think approx 5 miles to the nearest shop. We took all our food with us as there is plenty of fridge and freezer room. Alternatively you could arrange for a grocery shop to be delivered.
Thanks
