Welcome to your upland getaway, the one that opens up new activities and appetites. Every Octant is a tribute to its location. They are places where you will find care and attention, peace and freedom, with no time constraints. As well as rare emotion, in-depth knowledge, and unique encounters and experiences that you will remember forever. Here, in the very heart of town’s historical centre, you will find the Palace of Lousã, which represents the evolution in style and architecture that took place between the 18th and 19th centuries. An emblazoned 18th-century building that once served as the palace of the Viscountess of Espinhal, and which is classified as historical heritage of public interest, having left its mark on several generations of inhabitants due to the impact of the Viscountess’s generosity. But from this historical conservation, new memories and contemporary confluences are created, around a leafy mountain range. Anyone who arrives here through sports, photography, or a love of nature, can read the contours of this mountain well; from here you can see the castle and schist villages, rivers and waterfalls, wild boar and deer. The craggy uplands become the ideal place to do adventure sports, since nature will always be challenging you to surpass yourself. So it will hardly come as a surprise that these landscapes whet your appetite. At À TERRA, you can discover traditional and comforting dishes of game, chestnutchestnuts and pumpkin. But if you still want more, Lousã is generous and will have something delicious that you can savour at your leisure. This is what it means to be free. It is having the time for what matters, turning it into good memories, and returning to them over and over again.

I just came from a three night stay at this charming hotel. Originally I had just booked two nights but decided to extend the stay, as this region is so interesting. Upon arrival there was a chilled bottled of sparkling wine waiting in our room and this is standard in all hotel suites I've been to. This superior suite, as they call it, is located on the old wing of the hotel. The décor is very nice but I would not book it again, since the living room is very dark and it has only a small window overlooking the roofs of the adjacent houses. In such circumstances I would have never called it “superior” and it could still have been good value for money if it hadn’t been so expensive. The second room we tried was on the new wing of the hotel. It was a little far from the lobby, also a nice décor and it even featured a coffee machine as in the suite. It was a little cramped for the three of us (travelled with girlfriend and our daughter) but with a very good ratio of value for money.
Breakfast is included on the price of the room and it takes place on the restaurant. The buffet seemed to me correct in terms of assortment and service friendliness. The same can be said about dinner. We were there twice and fully appreciated all the items we had selected from the menu. The room has large windows overlooking the landscape which, unfortunately, is not nice but of course this is not the hotel’s fault.
All around the hotel the staff is smiling and accommodating.

The hotel was charming. The room was very large. Very comfortable bed. The staff were wonderful — they really went above and beyond in helping arrange activities, seeing that we were comfortable, offering assistance. They were an exceptional staff, really. The breakfast was huge and tasty. We ate dinner one night in the hotel dining room and it was delicious. All in all, this was a great experience. I have read other reviews saying there is not enough to do in Lousa, but that’s not really true. The hiking between Schist villages is accessible, pretty, and fun. We also biked using the hotel’s bikes, which were well maintained and seemed new.

This is the most beautiful hotel ever, an ancient palace beautifully renovated and decorated. The staff was incredibly nice, always helpful and smiley at the reception, the bar, the restaurant..everywhere. The electric bicycles are of excellent quality, the swimming pool area with huge gardens. They cater for so many details to make you feel the most welcomed, like we have never experienced in a hotel before. They offered us beautiful straw hats. In the bedroom, we had aa choice of 3 pillows and a home-made body scrub made with honey. The breakfast buffet was astonishingly delicious and complete. The food in the restaurant was very creative and excellent too. This hotel is a must.

Reception staff were very welcoming. The room (in the old part of the hotel) was great. Large room and very tastefully designed. We’ll done! The pool is nice BUT no service! If you want a drink you have to walk up three flights of stairs, find someone to serve you and then carry your own drinks back down three flights of stairs!

The lounge rooms are beautifully decorated. Wow! The hotel is spotless BUT we could not check-in at 3pm due to staff shortages and our room was not cleaned when we returned at 4pm the following day.

I don’t know if it is Covid impact but the service is not good enough. Breakfast service was poor even if the staff were polite. Something is not right with the entire service proposition. The restaurant is fine for lunch but has zero appeal for dinner. It feels like a canteen! Overall we enjoyed our stay but sort out the service. It is below standard for Portugal!

Dear John, We appreciate your comments regarding your stay at Palácio da Lousã Boutique Hotel. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback and our team will be encouraged by your remarks. Please: accept our most sincere apologies for not having delivered the service you expected. This makes us feel particularly worried as we do care and we do pursue this goal: to give our esteemed guests a fantastic experience. I'm sorry we had not done that. we will be more attentive towards the service and the welcoming of our bar's and outlets provided by our associates. This is not the way we want to be remembered. We are very sorry for this. I'm confident to say we do level up to the expectations of the most discerning and demanding travellers. But, as I mentioned apparently we have failled during your stay. Hope to welcome you again at Palácio da Lousã Boutique Hotel and you can live a different experience, Best regards, Nuno Sequeira-General Manager

The plus:
Very well located in the city center (free parking), the design, pool, on site renting bikes and confy bed.

The minus:
Breakfast kinda limited and the solution for the covid related issues are not practical.
Poor natural light in the room (small window facing another building) and the staff looked a bit disoriented.

It’s an impressive building, especially when seen from the gardens or the pool; workers are very nice and try to help you with any problems. Breakfast is very attractive. We booked the best room according to their site description but we expected more (size wise, views, twin beds) They did change us but we ended up in nothing like we imagined by reading their web descriptions

If all the Octant properties are as nice and well run as Octant Lousa they will be my hotel of choice.
The hotel reception and restaurant staff are great but the lady running the morning buffet is OUTSTANDING. We had to rush out early and she was so helpful in getting us something to take on the road as the buffet wasn’t yet open.
The property itself is lovely and the pool there is great.
I recently panned a Relais & Chateau hotel in Guincho…they could certainly learn something about hotel service from Octant Lousa.

Lousa has a few streets of very charming historic houses, the rest is social housing. Octant in an old palace is great, especially the attentive staff at the front desk and bike room who go the extra mile to help and the wonderful sitting rooms. The bikes we rented were fit for purpose but the hills are very challenging and need a good level of cycle or walking fitness. Electric bikes are available too. The schist (slate) villages are breathtaking. Breakfast is excellent, pool and gardens amazing.... There are some downsides: the restaurant (opens 730pm) is overpriced and modest in its execution but the town offers no competition so OK = best in town. Some rooms, including ours, are in an awful modern block extension with no character (while an historic house 10 metres away lies dilapidated) with no balcony and black mould in the bathroom, bubbling paint in the corridors suggesting the builders didn't install a damp course. The hotel should buy and restore this adjacent house. My room was serviced very late in the day (after 6pm). Despite encouraging walking and cycling there is no where to launder or dry clothes. There is a coffee maker in the room but only 3 capsules, and quality Kusmi tea.

I’m not sure any review I write could do justice to the incredible warmth and hospitality we received at the Octant Lousã but here goes --

I got married here in August 2023 and from start to finish, the hotel staff went above and beyond to give us the wedding of our dreams. This was not an easy feat as my husband and I are based in the United States, so 95% of the planning was done remotely. They were incredibly accommodating, kind, patient, and thoughtful. If you are even slightly considering having your wedding here, DO IT! We went the exclusive route (booking all 46 rooms) and truly had the best weekend of our lives. We had a lot of moving parts and everything went off perfectly without a hitch. We also got so much value for the price.

The hotel has so many beautiful and varied spaces that we were able to host all wedding events onsite. We chose to do the ceremony on the upstairs patio by the fountain, the cocktail in the big garden, and the dinner/dancing in the rectangular garden. We also did private dinners on the two nights leading up to the wedding on the terrace upstairs and a post-wedding brunch the day after in the aromatic herb garden. It made it incredibly easy for our guests as all they really needed to do was get to the hotel – the rest was taken care of. It also made it much easier on us as we were able to relax and enjoy the weekend, we didn’t need to run around anywhere. Our guests loved exploring Lousã (many took nightly walks up to the castle) and the nearby schist villages. Several of our guests remarked that they were having such a nice and relaxing weekend, they couldn’t remember if they were on vacation or attending a wedding. The beautiful spa is open 24 hours a day (some of our livelier guests tested this!). We had so much fun alternating between the hot and cold indoor pools. The outdoor pool is stunning; kids and adults of all ages had an absolute blast.

The food was another highlight. We got so many comments from guests about how incredible the meals were. The breakfasts are endless and so delicious. I would stay here again for the breakfasts alone! Our guests were SO happy with them. For the wedding dinner, we were really impressed with how quickly they were able to serve all six courses to our guests and for it all to be so delicious. They were also able to accommodate a lot of guests with a variety of food allergies and preferences.

We were able to enjoy every moment of the wedding – and this is largely due to Diana, Nuno, and the entire team. They are true professionals in every sense of the word. The hotel did a lot to individualize the experience for each guest, especially those with kids. There were a lot of heartwarming surprises along the way (which I won’t spoil!). We left the weekend feeling like family and are forever grateful. We are already scheming as to how to throw another party there! If it were up to us this would be our forever home.

We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful hotel on their opening weekend. The staff is extremely attentive. They have earned their Clean and Safe designation and the entire hotel and grounds give absolute reassurance for hygiene and safety. The food is excellent and reasonable. The location is fantastic for exploring the lovely coty of Lousã or the nearby Schist Village network. Highly recommended.
