This was my second stay, this time staying at the new "The Hütte". I stayed on my own as I needed to recharge my batteries, a change of scenery and a break from work/life after the challenging year we've all had with the pandemic.
And, oh boy, did this stay deliver! The Hütte is so spacious, extremely tastefully decorated and includes everything you need and more. I didn't order any meals from the farm this time but brought my own ingredients and had no trouble preparing elaborated meals during my stay in the fully kitted and equipped kitchen. On arrival, i really appreciated the home made flapjacks, they were to die for! The views and the sound of wildlife were blissful and despite the hut having WiFi and a TV (this is taking glamping to another level)! I spend most of my time reading, enjoying the views and just appreciating the remote location and surroundings. That snug with a view was so handy when it started raining! The wood burner also makes the place so cosy and warm but there is central heating too. Loved having random hares and pheasant popping round while I was enjoying a relaxing soak in the outside bath.
I really wished I could have stayed there forever and really can't wait for my next visit.
Jamie and Nicola have truly created a little piece of paradise in beautiful Northumberland and I certainly recommend this place both for romantic getaways but also, like me, on your own, when you just need a energising break from it all!

Wow. What a place! The hut was immaculate and there were excellent rules in place for covid. Nicola and Jamie were extremely helpful, we needed a hand with something and Jamie was straight up and wore a mask, he and Nicola are very professional.
The surroundings are delightful. We didn't get the greatest weather but the scenery would still be just as beautiful rain or shine.
It was so peaceful!
The outdoor bath was a real treat too!
We stayed for my partners birthday and we were greeted with a happy birthday banner in the hut on arrival which was so lovely!
We have stayed in a few shepherds huts, but the amenities here were by far the best and the hut itself is well equipped. (We loved how the dining table was hidden away under the bed, very clever.)
We could just make out the other hut over the hill but all in all a very private location.
Bread, milk, butter and rocky roads provided was a really nice touch!
Such a fabulous break away, thank you!

We have stayed in a few shepherd’s huts and this has to be our favourite!
The location was stunning, beautiful countryside in every direction and it felt very private and secluded even though there are a few other huts in the adjoining fields.
We originally booked to stay in Hedgehope but ended up staying in Maylies as we had to rearrange our trip from March to September. There was only 2 of us so we had loads of room in the hut. We really loved the wood burner and the skylight above the ‘secret’ bed. Our highlight had to be the outside bath, we used this every evening and it was so relaxing having a glass of fizz whilst watching the stars.
We had a truly wonderful trip and would definitely stay here again!

The huts are immaculately decorated so stunning like out of a magazine and everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break included in the limited space. It's lovely looking out over the veranda at the countryside or having breakfast on the burner outside. The hosts were friendly and informative and let us get on with our break without intruding.
But there was a few downsides to this experience. Firstly the noise in the children's room at night from the noise from the pump or electricity in the shower room behind it - I don't know what it was, it was horrendous. I slept in there and the droning nearly drove me crazy. It had to be turned off via a switch in the shower room.
Secondly there is black mould/condensation on the inside of the wooden hut. The mornings brought lots of mist and wet inside the walls as this crept inside so the windows needed opening fully to clear them. I was careful not to let my coat or clothes touch the walls for hanging them up.
Thirdly although it was peaceful during my stay, there are a number of new huts in the middle of their own private large gravel car parks surrounded by fencing visible on arrival and the local wildlife is clearly not used to it as when we drove up the road, a poor hare was running in front of the car unable to escape due to the fencing either side. The huts are invading this beautiful landscape and another I believe is being built which will spoil this landscape.
We paid extra for meals and this was delivered in a plastic bag and left in the fridge which needed to be heated up.
All in all the area is stunning, stunning for wildlife and escape from the urban world. Let's hope it stays that way for future generations as previous generations left it for us.

Thank you for your review, i just wanted to take the time to respond to a few of your comments. Im sorry that you found that there were a few 'downsides' to your stay as we wish for all of our guests to have a brilliant experience. Firstly thank you for your kind words regarding the interior of the hut - we have worked incredibly hard to provide everything for a relaxing break. Your first comment regarding the noise from the pump. All of the water comes from a natural spring and to be able to provide water to the hut in the beautiful surrounding it has, we have to use a pump. However the pump only works when the water is running and as soon as it is turned off the pump stops - so there should be no noise through the night unless the taps are running. Secondly i'm not sure what you mean by the black mould? I've had a good look and haven't managed to find any. The huts are made of natural wood with a sheeps wool insulation and are completely waterproof to anything coming from outside. Thirdly - we are SO proud of our beautiful surroundings and feel incredibly lucky that we get to experience them everyday. We have put a lot of thought into the placement of the huts to integrate them into our landscape, hence why they are well spread out. The fencing either side of the track has been there for decades to keep the livestock in their fields and has not been altered due to the addition of the huts. Also we have no plans currently to add another hut. We agree the area is stunning and are proud to share it with our guests. In the current climate we are preserving our way of life that previous generations have done for us to provide a future for our daughters and generations beyond that. Kind Regards Nicola

Beyond exceeded expectations - we stayed in the Hedgehope hut which had stunning views and was perfectly kitted out. Every little detail had been thought of and the log burning stove kept us toasty at night. Some of the comfiest nights’ sleep I’ve ever had. Delicious food preordered from Nicola is an absolute must - the sticky toffee pudding could have kept us going for days and the welcome cupcakes were a lovely touch.

Me and my boyfriend have just come back from a lovely stay at Hedgehope (16th-18th December 2022). It was a gift for his 25th birthday and everything was perfect!
Newcastle is a special place to us so seeing how beautiful it is away from the city in Northumberland was amazing.
The huts are very remote so driving is definitely better this time of year, however they were easy to find and signposted clearly. The area is beautiful, as was the view from our hut.
It has everything you need for a couples getaway; a fully kitted out kitchen, an indoor flushing toilet, shower and outdoor bath (thank you to Jamie & Nicola for working hard to ensure the outdoor taps were working in the freezing cold weather!), a comfy bed and pull out table. Wood was provided for the wood burning stove and there was plenty for the 2 nights we needed it on. Once it got burning we were nice and toasty all night even with minus temperatures outside :) there were no annoying noises or anything to disturb us throughout our stay, and you can see hundreds of stars in the sky if it’s a clear night.
The small details didn’t go unseen, including fairylights in the hut, board games, hot water bottles and Christmas decorations dotted around. So much thought has gone into every single detail and it shows. Everything was so cute and felt like something out of a Christmas film! Thank you for the homemade rocky road too for our arrival :)

Where to start with our stay at hedge hope; me & my boyfriend could not stop saying how perfect everything was!
I had booked our stay here back in February as a birthday treat for my boyfriend who’s birthday falls in December. We both often lead quite busy lives working full time Monday to Friday & at weekends working in a pub so all he wanted for his birthday was to get away from the hustle & bustle & huts in the hills was our perfect retreat for just that!
The moment we drove up to the hut & saw our view of the fields & opened the door & took in the most welcoming smell from the room diffuser, to see everything inside our hut we had massive smiles on our faces!
We knew we wouldn’t be going off visiting anywhere locally so we just simply made the most of our short 2 night stay & rustled up our own meals (simple veggie bangers & mash with gravy & veg for our first night & a pasta dish on our second night & we made our own veggie full English for breakfast), we wrapped up warm to read on the veranda, then when evening fell we got the wood burner on the go relaxed in the massive outdoor bathtub & then cozied up on theeee most snuggly bed watching films on our laptop & drinking wine until the warmth of the fire made us sleepy…
Leaving hedgehope on the Sunday morning was really difficult & we very nearly considered looking into squatters rights!! LOL!
We’re already planning our next stay & will definitely stay for longer than 2 nights…
I honestly can’t think of any major faults we experienced during our stay; it would have been nice to have a small sharp knife to use other than the bread knife, the gas cooker ignition spark didn’t always work so we ended up using the matches provided for the wood burner. Because my boyfriend has a beard & is forever getting food in his beard perhaps a box of tissues on the shelf might be an extra addition as he very nearly used all the toilet paper up! & perhaps having extra fresh candles to use for when in the bathtub outside & we didn’t want the main outside lights on while we were in the tub (there was one that lit ok but the other was pretty much melted away).

Our 4th time at the Huts, 3 in Dunmore and our first time in Hedgehope, we absolutely love it here - our little piece of paradise.
This is the best place to relax and unwind.
The attention to detail is second to none, they have literally thought of everything,
The huts are beautiful, so cosy with that log burner, hot shower and even lovely toiletries and fluffy towels,
You dont need to take anything with you, they can even provide amazing food
The outdoor bath is our favourite, with a bottle of fizz and relax under beautiful starry skies with only the sheep for company
An absolute MUST to visit, we want to tell everyone about this beautiful place but we want to keep it a secret too, our favourite place to be

What a unique experience, the Maylies shepherds hut tells you to unwind, it tells you to switch off, it allows you to let your mind wander amongst the surrounding hills as you soak away in a outside roll top bath.
The hut itself is second to none, the craftsmanship is perfect, the decor has been very carefully chosen by someone who understands peace and tranquillity.
My partner and I had a fantastic sun kissed stay, from the delicious tray bakes/fresh bread/preserves to welcome us through to the breakfast hamper and lovingly made lamb tagine for an evening meal.
All in.... it was good for the soul.

My children and myself visited over the weekend for mine and my sons birthday celebrations. We were super excited for our stay in Cheviot and to get away, even if it was only 40 mins down the road. The hut was decorated very beautifully, equipped with everything we needed for our weekend stay. We loved the extra thought out touches like blankets, hot water bottles, teddies for the kids 🥰 and also the games, which we certainly weren’t expecting so our first night was sorted after a later arrival. We ordered a chicken curry for our arrival and it was beautiful and there was plenty of it. We loved the outdoor bath and how much privacy we had in our hut and the outdoor area. It was lovely to have a great shower with plenty of hot water, and the very small log burner knocks out plenty of heat out. Basically we loved everything about our stay with you. The rocking chairs on the veranda were great to enjoy taking in the beautiful scenery and peacefulness. I have to say they are probably the most comfortable beds we have slept in away from home, with good quality duvets and pillows. The star gazing window was very nice to watch the stars on Saturday night when it was clear, after roasting marshmallows at the fire pit. So sorry for rambling on, we will definitely return again and have already told family and friends about our lovely weekend at Huts in the hills. Thank you so much
