Had a lovely few days away at Lancombe cottages, delicious biscuits and tea/ coffee and milk to make a cuppa when we arrived. Fabulous host, caroline greeting us at the lovely axe lodge, where we have stayed many times over the last 10 years. The lodge is warm and cosy and has everything you need if you wanted to make meals but we went out to the local pubs which are all very close to the place, around a 10/15 min drive from the lodge.

This is our 4th visit to this venue and it never lets us down - from the dog friendly accommodation and grounds to the various amenities on site. The level of care and consideration to guests comforts that Caroline puts into Lancombe was as ever, second to none. Whatever the weather, there was always something to do on-site - swimming in the heated pool, making use of the games room to practice our pool table and table tennis skills😜 and simply wandering around the stunning grounds. As well as Caroline and her lovely mum and dad there is Lee who looks after all the cottages and lodges and this time round we met her brilliant son Iain, who was busy with the upkeep of the grounds and at this time of year that’s no mean feat! He was so pleasant to meet up with and very knowledgable with regard to the ecological requirements of his work there. As always there is so much to do in Dorset and Lancombe is the perfect place to return to from a day stomping around the Jurassic Coast and visiting the niche shops in every town nearby. Thank you again Caroline for a truly relaxing week and we can’t wait to come back in 2024.…

Fabulous break away with the family.. We were welcomed with the lovely Caroline, Surroundings were great.. All we needed in one place, accommodate perfect, we took our two rescue girls and found the grounds perfect for them. Nice touch with the milk, tea coffee, biscuits hubby was pleased, and doggy treats bowls and blankets for our girls. Clean tidy and fresh linen upon our arrival. We visited many places some recommendations to eating out were welcomed. Caroline and the team were really easy to chat to and we had common interest in things we all liked.. We will definitely be back. And would highly recommend this to our friends.. WiFi was great. It was a great place to stay with many nearby places to visit.. Beaches, nature trails, we were also really lucky with the weather everyday, we left the Saturday morning happy we'd had a nice chilled break away from life back home.. Thank you Caroline, we'll see you again for sure. 🏡…

We stayed here for 3 nights lovely rural location. Unfortunately the photos are very misleading as the place needs maintenance. Our cottage on the inside seemed clean but had dusty windowsills. The hot tub wasn’t working. The balcony looked like it had never been cleaned. The pool table park and bbq area were very dirty and again been left to collect dust. All children’s toys were left out in the garden day and night and seemed like they hadn’t been touched in months. We left the place immaculate and then saw Caroline left us a review on air bnb saying our dog needed treating because her cleaner got bit ?? That might be because the lodge has never been cleaned outside. I have a 10 month old baby I’m sure I would know if my dog needed treating! 👍🏻 She did however offer a great welcome back. But I wouldn’t go back again not for £175 a night…. …

Dear Rhiannon6, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. However, I am surprised and disappointed in seeing this, as I saw you 24 hours after your arrival, asked if everything was good with the lodge and you advised it was and not once mentioned any of these points. We must have chatted for a good 20 minutes, but instead, on the day of your departure you took to your keyboard. Therefore, it’s also a shame that you scored us here so terribly for service, sadly, if we don’t know if you have any issues or concerns, we cannot help you. You had mentioned in your first review, that you only used the pool once as it affected your eyes. But you have since taken this comment off, when you updated your review, so I'll take this opportunity to confirm that the water is tested twice daily, so its so sad that you and your daughter missed out on making full use of this facility. Firstly, it would be great if you could let me know how you find my pictures misleading? I update the pictures regularly, as we are proud of the changes and the maintenance we carry out in these beautiful grounds. For example, one of the pictures of Wey’s Hot Tub was taken two days before you booked, because I had just started advertising with the Travel Agent you booked through. The Outdoor Play Area, BBQ area and Games Room pictures (which you have commented on) were taken 3 1/2 months ago. The interior of the lodge has not changed at all since these pictures were taken, right after another refurbishment. We are situated in a beautiful AONB in west Dorset, so I am glad you enjoyed the location. Your Lodge was fully cleaned (as with every changeover) inside and checked by myself (we have excellent cleanliness scores in our 10 years), and can confirm when your lodge was checked the morning of your arrival, that there was no dust on the windowsills. I clean the exterior of your lodge when I check and your decking area was cleaned and I personally apologise if I missed a couple of cobwebs externally. I am not sure what you are referring to with the Pool Park..if this is the communal Games Room with the Pool Table and Table Tennis, this is regularly checked, dusted and swept. I double checked the BBQs when you commented on these and they were clean. The ‘Outdoor’ Play Equipment is exactly that. You have wooden swings, slides and a climbing frame, which are permanently secured into place for safety. The other toys are 2 cars, scooters, a slide, bikes and basketball net. We were blessed with a lovely, sunny and dry week on the dates you stayed and these were enjoyed regularly by our younger guests in the evenings after returning from their days out. The toys that are not secured to the ground are tidied at the end of every evening. I am afraid when I went to fumigate the lodge, there was evidence of fleas inside the lodge following my cleaner showing me her bites. I then upgraded my incoming guests that were due to stay in Wey Lodge to a bigger lodge with a larger Hot Tub, which meant an additional expense to me, and I can assure you I would not do this if I felt it was not necessary. I’m sorry you don’t find us value for money, £175 (£43.75 per person with a private Hot Tub) per night is certainly not what I received from your booking, which is why it is aways better to book direct with the Owner. My father showed you into the lodge, who actually maintains the Hot Tubs. Because of this he proudly shows our new guests how to work the Hot Tubs (which he confirms for your arrival was no different). The Hot Tub did work, but he commented after your departure, that you had switched it off on the main switch, which will be the reason why it didn't function for you. In your first review, you made a sweeping statement with regards to you wondering when the water was last changed. I can assure you at every single changeover, the Hot Tub is emptied, cleaned, filled and treated, then the chemicals retested and for your stay, there was no exception. Sadly, being new to the travel agent you booked through, I struggled with editing your review fully, following my Cleaner and my findings. So, I do hope you find somewhere more suited to you for future stays. Best wishes, Caroline

Just stayed here for a week with the children and two dogs. We had a lovely welcome from Caroline on arrival, she’s really lovely and very helpful as was her Dad after the hot water stopped. Bob reset the water for us and it was lovely and hot once again. On arrival we were given dog bowls, dog blankets, dog towels and treats which was really kind. The cottage was really clean and well equipped. The kids loved the pool which you book yourself online on their website. We loved the pool and table tennis in the clubhouse which kept us busy while the weather wasn’t great. It was a great base to explore the county from, we loved Dorchester at night and the wonderful beaches, especially West Bay (dog friendly), Tank Museum, Sealife, and the Dorset County Show which was amazing and huge. Thanks Caroline and Bob for a super week.…

Caroline was so welcoming on arrival. We stayed in Asher Cottage and was impressed by the cleanliness of the property. It also had all extras like salt, pepper, foil, washing up liquid, tea bags, sugar and a pint of milk. The place is AMAZING for dog owners. Our 6 month old puppy had her own welcome pack with towel, dog bowl, treat plus poo bags and a blanket to cover the sofa so puppy could have her cuddles. There is a private field for dog walks which is entirely enclosed and you get to book for exclusive use. Our kids (12,11 and 6) loved the exclusive use of the pool, games room with pool table and table tennis. There is access to washing machines and tumble dryers which meant I barely bought anything dirty home. It felt very safe and secure. We found a dog festival whilst we were there and the kids enjoyed the splash park which was about 45 mins away. …

Beautiful place, beautiful people. We have just returned home after another brilliant stay @lancombe. This a really friendly home from home, at a reasonable rate for returning guests, and a good base from which to get around the area. Seeing that we are in Dorset & not far from Jurassic Coast there are lots exciting things to see and do. We love it here so much, this is the 10th year we've stayed with Caroline & family, & no doubt we will be back again next year See you soon, Gareth & Carol

Ok so good and bad for this one. We had a 5 day break in Broad Lodge, my husband and I, our sons aged 22,18 and 10 plus our dog, July 2023. Where they excelled .. Staff were friendly enough. Clean lodge (and flea free!), lovely clean beds and mattresses, great welcome pack, coffee, tea, milk, biscuits. Full bottle of washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, liquid soap, loo rolls, all towels including kitchen, oven glove. Full doggy welcome pack towels, blanket, treat, bowl etc. Scrabble. Nice site, playground, games room, pool you can use privately, grounds feel safe. Kids bedroom was cute, full size bunks. Beds comfy, pillows and duvets were nice. Curtains great, no fussy tie backs or nets. The WIFI was excellent, no problems getting on it with all our devices. Hot tub towels provided. Where they could improve … The hot tub was disgusting, jets covered in limescale, was gritty like sitting in sand, the water was full of gritty limescale and it was minging, never had a hot tub this filthy before. The outside area had not been swept so I did that. Outside furniture was not good, no outside table and chairs to eat on - just a plastic bench for 2 and rickety seat - there were 5 of us! Not enough seating for 5 people never mind 6 - need another settee in the lodge really. Safety … within 10 mins of check in my adult son slipped on an unbacked rug at the patio door and missed his head hitting the dining table by 1/2 inch. Big holes in the kitchen floor (5 min job to fill with sillicone) Window latches are broken, didn’t feel secure at night. Small dogs and kids can easily get under the hot tub decking as there are gaps in the fence. Hot tub controls are difficult to reach unless you are in it. Shower isn’t great, no safety handles to get in and out/over bath and the taps are very sensitive to adjust, I didn’t let my 10 year old go in for fear of scalding. Would not be good for disabled/elderly etc. Parking .. tight (I have an S Max) there is a silly fence behind that prevents you reversing back. Light in the twin room has a dodgy connection to the corridor light. Other things: Kitchen is well equipped but spatulas are useless as they bend, too many pint glasses, not enough smaller drinking glasses, dishwasher was always on as we kept running out of cutlery (teaspoons) and small glasses and bowls. Small undercounter fridge freezer - nightmare for 6 people, there is a freezer in the laundry if you need it. A proper fridge/freezer where you aren't bending double would be better. Microwave, toaster, oven all good, kettle was descaled and immaculate. Our Tesco delivery driver couldn’t get to the lodge due to an overgrown tree so had to park far back and struggle over the stones. The turn into the lane off the main road is gnarly, it hit my exhaust everytime as its steep with a lip at the top and I dreaded it! There is an alternate way but its all single track roads for miles. There are no take away places close or that deliver it is in the middle of nowhere, all supermarkets are a good drive away. The pool is small and not deep, but good for kids and some inflatables provided. Worth the money? No - not compared to better ones we have stayed at. Go again? No but mainly due to location. I cannot comment on other cottages or lodges - they might be fine. …

This was our second time staying at Lancôme as we enjoyed it so much the first time, we brought our 4 dogs and they loved the little woods and feild. When you go to the the cows fence they come running over to say hello!!! The cat, kitty, is normally hanging around in the laundry room and she loved the fuss from us. The heated indoor pool was so fun! We will definitely come back again 💖🐶🐮🐱

Thank you Caroline for making my doggie holiday in Lancôme so special. I loved the treats you left me after my long journey and the cosy blanket to put on the sofa so I could snuggle up with my hoomans. The doggie field where I played fetch the ball with my Hoomans was brilliant followed by a walk back to our lodge through the bluebells. I am so looking forward to seeing you again in September.
