I've been to a lot of different restaurants, especially curry restaurants. I love to sample different ways in which people make their curries. So I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that the Landlord makes his own curries. We had Jon's latest curry which was lamb on the bone with a lovely sauce which was matured for ultimate flavour. My wife who doesn't like it too spicy said it was simply delicious, best curry she had in a good while. I had to agree, some curries can leave me feeling over bloated but it was simply put, outstanding. I have sampled Jon's curries before his Garlic Chicken and Seafood curries are also one's to sample. Next time you fancy a decent curry and not one thats just re-heated from a take away. Go to the Bay Horse as they do take aways as well as sit in. I actually left with another 2 which Jon had made. Cheers, I'll definitely be back.…
Stayed here overnight so that we could go to the vineyard in Nun Monkton. The welcome was very friendly and all the staff were helpful and keen to help. The bed was very comfortable and our evening meal and breakfast were delicious. We didn’t meet Tina but Jon is a great host - chatty and friendly. Only a few miles from York this pub was ideal .I would recommend.
Nice friendly place but much confusion over check in time. Our paperwork said 2pm, the guy who I finally found in the kitchen when no-one answered the front door said it was 3pm and finally the paperwork we found in the room said 4pm. Good simple pub grub in the bar in the evening and a nice full english breakfast next morning. Two rashers of bacon would have been nice though! Room had everything we needed, nice and quiet for sleeping, but whether or not this would be the case post covid19 is difficult to say, the bar is awfully close to the rooms.
Stayed at The Bay Horse Inn as we had been bought a voucher to visit the local Vineyard at Nun Monkton. We checked in after our vineyard tour so it was early evening. The staff seemed unsure of our booking but we were shown to our room in the out buildings. It was a very basic room, warm and clean but the bathroom was without heating so freezing. We enjoyed an interesting meal in the bar/restaurant and took a glass of wine back to our room. The locals obviously don’t care that people stay as they were very loud on leaving at various late hours.Breakfast was basic with Full English being the obvious choice required!Toast was given but no jam or marmalade?Tea was offered but no refills however coffee was available on tap.Basic, clean, convenient but overpriced for the standard of room.
