We stayed 5 nights in Reef On The Beach ( ROTB ), the Long Set Beach is very nice, the garden and surroundings of ROTB is well arranged and maintained however the facilities are poor and quite dirty. In the bungalow, the bed room is ok but the bathroom hasn't been cleaned since years. It is very disappointing for the fairly high price. The restaurant / beach club is the worse, all black and dirty from sand to tables to the roof... The foreign staff is welcoming and professional however the local staff is not so nice and really gives you the impression to be only money supply (it seems to be quite common characteristic in Cambodia). We also had a tent and the common facilities for tents and dorms is simply a disaster and disgrace... Way too few, way too broken and way too dirty...

The positioning of the hotel is strange neither a budgeted accommodation for backpackers neither a decent standard accommodation for families. I would simply recommended to go to Long Set Resort or Pura Vita which are much better and next door for the same and similar price.

We originally booked a 3 night stay in 1 of their bungalows for around $33 a night. Bungalow was clean and spacious with our own bathroom. We loved it so much that we extended for another week!! We got it at a discounted price too which was good. The staff were amazing, really friendly and included you in all the fun activities. Liam was really helpful and our check in was quick and we were greeted with a big smile. Our room was near the front so was a bit noisy the first night but all nights after we were up drinking and having fun so it didn’t matter. The beach is clean and beautiful. Food and drinks are cheap and nice. We did pop out to eat a few nights tho as there isn’t a massive choice. I am already planning my trip next year and will definitely pop back here for a few nights! Well done guys! We felt really welcomed and looked after.

I was here just only 5 nights. It is a bit short but I got a really pleasant stay. I stayed in a specious Bungalow room with king size bed and reasonable price.
Staff are the most friendly ever, feel so warm from them such as family. Thank so much for your cold welcome Mr. Sophat , Mr. Rouy , Mr. Oudom and others..
Really appreciate with cocktail.. Pinacolada..
The white sand beach is so beautiful with blow wind... (Longset Beach)
I will be back here once again...
Recomment to you guys..

Arrived and went to check in by a rude western staff member. Tall, very skinny boy with brown hair in a bun and ‘nest’ hostel wrist bands on. Poor attitude. Didn’t smile or greet us, just looked at us with a sour look and asked for the money with no please or thank you.
Also $30 a night for a tent is pretty steep so I would expect a smile or thank you.

Clearly has never worked in hospitality and doesn’t understand greeting people or being polite is the main part of working in hospitality. Really tarnished our stay, wouldn’t recommend the place to others.

Same with some Khmer staff member (good English) rude about asking what table number when we didn’t have a table number. Again, unnecessary to be rude to people who aren’t even aware there is table numbers. Our table didn’t have a number.

The place is beautiful. Just a shame about the western staff member who was working on reception, and the Khmer staff man taking orders. Can eat cheaper and be treated nicely at other hostels along this strip! Recommend going elsewhere unless you don’t mind people being rude to you for the expensive price.

(Other western staff we dealt with were pleasant enough. But the one on reception, probably should learn to smile and be polite to customers).

Was having such a fun time at reef until the Dj got involved, he was rude, impolite and down right not a good time. I was talking to one of my friends at the bar when we told me to f*** off because I’m so annoying. The rest of the night consisted of him making snarky and rude comments to me and my friends. I am disappointed that this is his place of work and he was being paid to be genuinely rude and disrespectful to me and my friends.

Reef on the beach is definitely the best hostel to be in on koh rong. Activities, sports, games, you name it. Awesome staff with great food and drinks options.
So many different types of accomodation to choose from right on the beach your feet in the sand.
Will defenitely book here again next time!

Reef on the beach has been a highlight of my trip. I have been backpacking for a month and can’t get over how incredible reef on the beach was. I was traveling with my brother and ended up meeting the most incredible people! We messed up the dates for our booking and they were amazing at accommodating our error. The boat trip was also great. The staff that work there are so fun and really want everyone to get involved! Hannah, Cory, Jake and all of the staff there during the holidays were so fun! I can not recommend reef on the beach more.

We arrived to the pier, and after dragging our bags down the beach in the hot temps, struggled to find reception. The check in process was easy... but staff weren’t particularly friendly. It’s a shame because the Cambodian people were some of the nicest we came across on our trip... but the foreigners working at ROTB, weren’t great! Rooms are simple. Cold showers in the bungalows and mosquitoes net with holes in them make for an itchy experience! We met some cool people... and loved the hammocks.

I know I won't enjoy my stay there when the staff are like this. So I cancelled my reservation.
I don't know if it was the lack of information online or just simply my problem, I couldn't seem to find enough information on any ferry websites even the ferry companies' official websites. So I thought I could ask them to help me, maybe arrange something for me, as I was seriously really lost. Well read my screenshots...

I would give this place a 0/5 if I could. I regret not reading the reviews before coming here.

Awful experience no 1: We arrived to this hostel and my friend had specifically asked for a top bunk which was agreed. She left her stuff in the locker and we went to the beach. After coming back someone had left their stuff on the bed also, so we went to the reception and spoke with the owner, Andy, to ask what was going on. When my friend questioned why someone else was taking her bed, he just shrugged and said “not my problem”. Understandably, my friend continued to questions this and he ended up banging his hands on the table and very loudly said “for f**k sake!” And walked to our dorm room, to which he then sorted the issue .... what a nice welcome.

Awful experience no 2: Myself and my friends were chilling out in the dining area, where the bar and reception also was. We started to overhear an argument between a guest and the other manger, Liam, over the guests laundry which hadn’t come back. The guest was told it would be ready for 12pm, however the time was already 1:30pm and he’d missed his ferry due to waiting for his laundry. There was a lot of back and forth until finally I heard the guest say “my girlfriend told me you said it would be ready for 12” to which Liam(manager) replied “well, you shouldn’t have listed to your stupid f**king girlfriend then”. The guest understandably was incredibly upset by this and banged his hands on the reception table which also got the staff laptop and the guest stormed off to his friends. Liam (manager) then raised his laptop over his head in a threat to hit the guest with it, liam then walked around the table towards the guest and put him in a very tight headlock which resulted in the guest struggling to breathe. My friend, along with a few other people, ran to the guests help and were shouting at liam (manager) to let go!!! After what felt like forever, liam finally released his grip and the guest and his girlfriend grabbed their things and very quickly, walked away towards the ferry port. My friend then asked Liam what the hell he was playing at? To which he then told her to “get f**ked”. We all sat down after being a bit shaken up by the whole experience and then the owner, Andy, came over to ask what had just happened. Liam then told Andy “he broke the laptop”, Andy (a very mean and aggressive older man) then stormed after the guest and his girlfriend before they could get to the ferry. This left me and my friends feeling very uneasy as though something sinister was about to happen. We stayed sat down for about 15 minutes until Andy then returned with a wad of cash and put it on the reception table. Andy and Liam then started to laugh. Myself and my friend did NOT have a good feeling about this so we went looking for the guest and his girlfriend to see if they were ok. We got to a shop and bumped into a group who also saw what happened and they said the guest was in a building next door. My friend went to see if he was ok which he was not. Andy (owner) had unfortunately caught up with them and beaten the guest so badly and taken all his money. He had a split lip and was bleeding from his teeth and head. His girlfriend was in a compete state of shock, crying and shaking.

FINAL EXPERIENCE: We unfortunately had to stay the night. Around 9pm we saw Andy(owner) sprawled out on the pool table, completely drunk and high. They had to close the hostel bar early so they could take him home and to bed. A complete joke.

Myself and my friends had to leave this hostel a day early due to feeling incredibly unsafe there, surrounded by abusive and violent management. If you care about yourself and safety in any way, PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! It’s time this horrendous place is shut down.
