So Tamu has moved from Otres Beach to Pagoda Beach on Koh Rong Island and it is magnificent.

It's a slog to get to Koh Rong Island as you have to go through Sihanoukville which has been overdeveloped and ruined.

However, don't let this put you off as the effort is more than worth it. Once you are on the speed boat on your way to Koh Rong you begin to relax and enjoy the trip.

You step off onto a pier then walk a short distance on pristine white sand to Tamu.

You are greeted like an old friend and then you are shown to your tent. Its not really a tent per se - but rather a glamping tent covered in thatched roof hut with an outdoor shower area.

You step into the air conditioned tent and you are in heaven. This place has got it right. The tents are fabulous and we had an ocean front with stunning views over the white sand and turquoise water.

The bar/restaurant area has a sand floor so footwear around the resort is optional. The staff are attentive, the swimming pool is great and the food / drinks are well done with a wide range of selection for you stay here.

Wander down to the beach and the beds on the white sand, select your spot and then go for a swim in absolutely clear water. Go snorkelling, kayaking and take a water taxi to other parts of Koh Rong or other close by islands.

Kick back, get out the books and relax. There is no TV here but there is WiFi so you are not totally cut off.

Do enjoy your time here - it is well worth the effort to get to Pagoda Beach.

Dear PeterS6, Thank you very much for your beautiful review, we are glad to have kept our previous guests from Tamu Otres to our new place. Indeed the concept is different, we propose high-ends tents and concrete rooms nestled between a white sand beach and the jungle, we are very happy to see your satisfaction about your stay. Our beach is full of palm trees which is perfect to nap but if you like to do some activities , we can organize taxiboats, motorbike rental or you can grab a kayak to visit the surroundings bays. We look forward to welcoming you again, Warm regards from all the team, Tamu Koh Rong Management

Located on the quiet side of Koh Rong you can relax at the beach or pool, walk along the clean beach and eat a delicious dinner at the hotels restaurant. Besides that, there is not much else you can do, anyway. The 'rooms' are spacious tents. Very nice!

Dear Dino W, Thank you for taking time to write your review, we are happy that you enjoyed your stay here. Indeed Pagoda Beach is located on the Eastern coast of Koh Rong, a bit far from the crowded / party beaches. There are 5 hotels and restaurants on the beach so you have choice. In case you want to move to the other beaches you can rent a scooter or grab a mototaxi, there are earth roads on the island. Warm regards from all Tamu team, Tamu Koh Rong Management

We stayed for 5 nights in a Seaview Deluxe tent and would highly recommend this hotel and option. Seeing that the price is a bit higher than many other nearby accommodations, we hesitated at first but afterwards we were very happy with our choice.

The beach is so beautiful it could be the motive of a post card, and the staff makes sure to keep it clean. Nature is all around so you will see lizards, frogs and birds close to the hotel and a lot of little crabs at the beach. There are just a few other hotels around and it is not exploited at all yet, and the vibe of the hotel is really chill.

If you want to be barefoot and just relax in a quiet surrounding, but maybe explore the island on a scooter during daytime, this is the place to be. And don't miss the plankton tour!

Last but certainly not least: the staff is the best of all, super helpful and kind from before we arrived until after we left. Thank you Nin, Mr. Yen, Mr. Mean and Mrs. Srey and colleagues - you rock!

In some ways it pains me to rate Tamu as a 3. The staff are fantastic, it has the best location on Pagoda Beach and the restaurant on sand is cool. If Tamu was the only hotel on the beach (as it used to be) then I would have upped the rating
BUT it isnt : there are 6 others and Tamu is more expensive than others that look to have much better rooms / accommodation.
The tents are fun to stay in for a couple of nights but constantly zipping / unzipping got a bit tedious and the outside bathroom area was not great - lots of mosquitos and various fungi that grew around the shower area and were not cleared by room staff. I definitely started to look enviously at the neighbouring hotels that had solid build rooms with large glass fronts - including Tamu's sister hotel the Anaya
The Tamu restaurant was OK but the menus at other places on the beach were better.
Final thought is that I would definitely recommend staying on Pagoda Beach - we went around the island and this was the best choice from what we saw

Dear David, Thank you for sharing your honest feedback about your recent stay at Tamu. We appreciate your insights, as they help us understand our guests' perspectives and make improvements where needed. We're thrilled to hear that you found our staff fantastic and enjoyed the unique experience of dining at our beachfront restaurant. We understand the importance of our location on Pagoda Beach and its appeal. However, we also appreciate your concerns and understand that our pricing may not have aligned with your expectations, especially in comparison to other accommodations in the area. We continually evaluate our rates to provide value for our guests, and your feedback will certainly be considered during our pricing discussions. We're sorry to hear that you found the tents somewhat inconvenient, and we understand that the constant zipping and unzipping can become tedious. Regarding the outdoor bathroom area, we apologize for any discomfort you experienced due to mosquitoes. This is certainly not the experience we intend to provide, and we will take immediate steps to address these issues with our room staff. We appreciate your feedback about the restaurant as well. Our culinary team is always looking for ways to enhance our offerings, and we will take your comments into account when refining our menu options. If you decide to return in the future, we would love the opportunity to provide you with a more satisfying experience. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any additional comments or suggestions. Warm regards

We arrived on this beautiful island and were greeted at the dock by the staff and shown to our amazing rooms.
The rooms were stylish with a tropical outdoor bathroom and a hammock.
The location of the hotel is the best in the island with only 4 resorts on this stretch of beach.
The food is great, and the hotel at the end of the beach dies great happy hr cocktails.
Defiantly go on the plankton trip it was amazing.

The most beautiful setting with friendly, helpful staff and lovely rooms (we stayed in the jungle room which was located less than a minutes walk from the beach front!) I would recommend the hotel, mainly because of the setting. There are, however, a few things that could be improved and tips for future travellers which I’ve listed below.
1) the food is pricey and quite average. You’re a bit stuck as there are no restaurants nearby. If you walk to the end of the beach though we found another hotel with a more reasonably priced menu, a happy hour, a better selection and a better quality of food.
2) there are lots of mosquitos - whilst of course this is expected and isn’t the hotel’s fault, I mainly got bitten during the night (despite spraying the room and keeping all doors closed all the time). There are no mosquito nets in the rooms and this would have made a big difference.
3) the hotel located right next door is very very noisy at night. There was loud Karaoke until 11pm one night and fireworks going off late into the night on another night. The hotel staff here did go over and ask them to reduce the noise but were told no.
4) we did the plankton tour and saw very little. If you splash the water you will catch a glimpse of some luminescence which is quite cool, but done expect any sparkling swirls or anything like the pictures you see on the internet. It takes place at night and you’re expected to swim to move the plankton around (this wasn’t explained to us and no one on the boat had bought swimming things and the dark water at night wasn’t particularly appealing!)

Dear Sh193, Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay in Tamu ! We are really happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We appreciate your suggestions and we will do our best to make our resort better. As you said being on an island means a more limited choice of food and pricier too. Your suggestion about happy hour is a very good idea. We are really sorry about the noise coming from Neighbours. We have talked to them to make sure it doesn't happen again until late at night. We hope to see you again in Koh Rong !

Just a two minute walk from the Pagoda Beach pier, this hotel definitely offers the best experience out of the five small resorts on Pagoda Beach. (and Pagoda Beach the best beach on Koh Rong) . So what makes Tamu the best? Given that this is a beach resort, I will start with the beach. When Tamu was built it retained a large copse of coconut palms on its beach. This gives a very green and inviting first impression, and during the daysyou spend here, offers patches of dappled shade to protect from the scorching sun. If you WANT direct sunlight, there is plenty of that too, but only Tamu’s beach has this shady respite if you prefer to be out of the sun.
The free breakfast is tasty, with Asian, American, and French options. The rest of the menu is limited, and somewhat repetative if you stay longer than a few days, but as luck would have it, Tamu has a sister resort, Anaya, just a short walk away on the beach, with a more expansive menu, and the meal can be put on your Tamu bill.
The staff a superb. The chefs and waiters eager to please, and very accommodating. The two ladies doing logistics (such as excursions), both speak perfect english, and will make sure your stay is comfortable and fun.
Lastly the rooms are cozy, charming, and clean. I opted for one of the bungalow rooms rather than a tent, and am glad i did. Some of the tents are close to a slightly noisier resort, but my room was both secluded and quiet.
I am so glad i picked this resort, and you will be too

This hotel is totally overpriced. While it is the most expensive hotel on pagoda beach, the service provided is one of the worst.

Not clean : they didn't clean the room. We have to ask for that. The beach was dirty too, they didn't clean the plastic bottles and towels from previous customers stayed there for more than 24h. I used the common toilet once and it was very dirty too.

No service : the staff barely welcomed us. No information provided, not even how to get the key of our room. The staff was busy with texting but didn't care about their customers. The paddle board was broken, and when I flagged it to the staff, they just didn't reply.

Food : horrible. We got out of date cheese in our Greek salad. I had the pasta with vegetable and it was a joke : it was pasta with oil and frozen broccoli. Even a kid can do a better job. For the breakfast, a lot was missing : homemade cakes, sourdough bread, homemade jams, etc. Just change your menu if you never have it.

To sum up : a complete disaster. We had a talk with the manager the last day and she accepted to do a discount. But still even with the discount, way too expensive for the service provided

The hotel is perfectly located in a beautiful and peaceful beach. Absolutely everything invites the guest to immerse in the relaxing island life.

The tents are spacious, very clean and provided with AC, hairdryer, hats and beach bag among others.
The common areas are very nice, with a large pool area and a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy some really delicious food (big shout out to the chef, she is amazing!). Breakfast is absolutely perfect, with a wide range of à la carte choices as well as a continental buffet.

But what really makes this hotel stand out is the people that work here. All of the staff is very helpful and nice, always with a welcoming smile. They would make your stay here even more perfect.

The stay here was an absolute pleasure, so I highly recommend choosing this hotel for your vacation in paradise.

We had a wonderful stay at TEMU last week.
The staff are lovely and could not be more welcoming or helpful, and it was lovely to be able to walk the short distance to the hotel from the jetty where we were dropped off.
The rooms are lovely and comfortable and lovely to have some air conditioning. We also really enjoyed the company of the (unseen) geckos around the room. The simple beauty of being surrounded by the jungle with a few steps to the beach is a delight.
Would not hesitate to recommend.

Hi How much insect and creepy crawly activity do you have? Sensible to bring a mosquito net? Thanks
Answer from TamuKohRong
Hi, thank you for your question. There are mosquitos and insects on Koh Rong as it is a tropical island but it is not necessary to bring a mosquito net. Our tents have a mosquito net included in the doors. We recommend you to bring only a mosquito repellent. Staying at your disposal, Tamu team

How you guys go to the hotel?
Answer from TamuKohRong
Hi Cindy, from Sihanoukville you have to take a speedboat, there are many possibilities, you can let us know you arrival time and we will suggest you the most suitable transport. If you are already on the island on another beach, you can come by longtail boat (local boat), by mototaxi or with your own scooter, the road is 200 meters behind the hotel, really easy to access. Our restaurant is open from 7 am until 10 pm, we will be pleased to welcome you. Cheers

Is there anything to do in the local vicinity and how far to the nearest restaurant/bar Are Tuk Tuks available? Many thanks
Answer from TamuKohRong
There is no tuktuk on the island but only mototaxis or taxiboats. There are 2 hotels on Pagoda beach right now so you have the choice between 2 restaurants. Otherwise Longset beach or Coconut beach are 20 minutes away by motobike. You can rent a scooter at the hotel or we can call a mototaxi or we can organize a taxiboat to bring you there.
