We ate here, but stayed at a different bungalow. This was as far as we could tell the only option for designated vegetarian options at coconut beach, with tofu and western servers who understood vegan, vegetarian, etc. the place seems to have varied options for tents, bungalows, etc. the restaurant has a bar, tables, and many books in bookcases with desks to work at that give it a little Starbucks hipster hangout feeling in one area. There is a bar and loud dance music by the beach with is nice or annoying depending in how you feel about it. There is a fire down there at night, and occasional demonstrations of fire dancing in the evening. Oddly, despite being more developed than most of the other options at coconut beach, the food prices were the cheapest, with 2-3 dollar entrees.

Robbie is a true host. Its nice to stay in a property where the host manages the guests on a 24 hour basis.

The property is not perfect by any means but for the price you pay it is extremely good value for money.

The food is excellent and cheap. There is a good menu.

A few review mention about the garbage. This is is floating plastics from the sea mainly and we see it all over the world. Robbies staff clean the beach area on a regular basis. We did not find it an issue for the experience of our stay.

Robbie is a great host and organises fire show, bonfires with marshmallows, floating lanterns into the night sky, plankton watching, fishing, boat trips etc etc etc.

`This is a great place if you understand that it is an island and not luxury serviced hotel.

All I can say is well done to Robbie and his wife!!

We had a great two days at the Coconut beach bungalows and wish the trip would've been longer. The staff were kind and friendly with our kid and were accommodative for our requests at the restaurant.

Too bad we couldn't experience the glowing sea planktons during our stay (due to the tides it seems) the 40min boat ride from Sihonoukville to the beach was a bit choppy, and I wish it was more easier to find young coconuts/ coconut water on the coconut beach :) otherwise we had a fabulous time at the unspoilt beach!

Thanks

After a great tour of Cambodia we planned to bring in the New Year at a beach resort before heading home. We had booked this place from the 31st through a major booking site after reading excellent reviews, and also called and talked to the owner in advance a few times so he was aware that we were a large group of sexagenarians with heavy baggage. The ferry reached the Coconut Beach pier just as it was getting dark. The owner had sent a couple of young boys to carry the baggage. They showed us the lights of the resort a few hundred meters down the beach but there was no road or path to it! A couple in the group had mobility issues but we all had to walk to the resort through the sand. The boys could not wheel our suitcases through the sand so carried one suitcase at a time on their shoulders from the pier to the resort. It took them six trips. And that was to the beach level, then there was a climb to the restaurant level, and more to the bungalows. It took almost two hours from landing at the pier for the full group to get into our six bungalows.

The wooden bungalows looked beautiful but were quite basic, beds with mosquito nets and one fan which was inadequate for the weather. Very poorly lit rooms with no frills like tea/coffee maker. We did have dinner at the restaurant and we went down to the beach where there was a bonfire and music but we were too tired after the long day's journey by bus and ferry, and the above issues, to last till midnight.

Worse was to come next morning on new year's day. After breakfast at the restaurant we complained to the owner that there was no water in our bathrooms. First he blamed us for leaving taps on in all our bathrooms so we asked him to personally check. Then he said it may be the pump and so on. After an hour of this he turned rude and belligerent and started shouting at us that he could not do anything more and to get out of his property if we did not like it. We could not stand such behaviour and decided to leave although we had nowhere to go. He collected one night's room charges in cash dollars from us. How we made it back to Sihanoukville is another traumatic story. We were all experienced international travelers and had never ever seen a hotel owner behave like this. In fact he was so cunning that he listed us as 'no shows' on the booking website so that we couldn't write a review.

I can understand the great reviews it has to some extent. Overall its a beautiful property with a great and peaceful beach and many activities. The restaurant has a small library, and drinks and good food at reasonable prices. But the other guests we saw at the resort were mostly young western backpackers and young couples staying in tents and other shared accommodation and enjoying it. Guess its not for very suitable for older travelers used to a more comfortable experience.

despite calling them in advance about our large group and inquiring about pick up, there was no one to help us with our bags. we had to beg two of their staff to help us trudge through the beach from the jetty to reach the place.
next morning, all the six rooms we had booked had no water in the washrooms. Robbie offhandedly said he had started the pump. despite waiting for almost two hours, there was still no water in the taps. when we asked Robbie when would we get water to brush and shower, he was extremely rude and picked a fight. We were forced to leave the property. worst experience ever.
as for the facilities at the resort- no phone in the room, no tea/coffee, weak wifi, poorly lit and wild surroundings with geckos in the rooms and the walk to the restaturant at night was quite unsafe.

We booked a Double Rm w/ Balcony and Sea View, but think we got a family room instead (2 dbl beds). The sea view was great from our balcony (Bungalow 3, we think), but some of the bungalows didn’t have sea view even though it is in the room name (due tree growth since initial pics) Basic room with many gaps in walls and floor so lucky there were mosquito nets and geckos. Bathroom was clean but we did run out of running water twice for a few minutes each time. Free large bottle of drinking water daily (refill at dining area). Food prices were reasonable (approx. $3 USD/meal). Dining lounge – great view, games, books, and lots of power outlets. Beach had a fire pit, loungers, and swings, though minimal activity due to strong winds. Swim at night with bioluminescent plankton. Strong winds in Dec 2019 brought loads of garbage to beach in front of all hotels. $10 boat tour was great value, but conditions to dock in evening were impossible so we were dropped at the village around the point and had to hike back through the jungle in the dark (not the fault of the hotel, but just a warning about the winds). Also, on departure day, wind stopped ferry from docking at this beach so Robbie organized a free truck ride to Long Set (4K) beach so we could make our way to Koh Tuch onwards to KRS.

Robby, the owner and cocktail master, and his sister were absolutely amazing! Robby told us so much about the island, all little tips & tricks, and his sister always served us well in the restaurant upstairs and booked us on an amazing boat tour for only about $10 per person.

We stayed in a double room in the building at the very back of the estate, with a toilet and a shower in a building next door. There was no air-con in the room, just a fan, which is usually not a problem, but there is a big mosquito net all over the bed that kinda stops the fan so you can’t really feel the fan on you at night. I recommend booking a whole bungalow to yourself, if you can afford it, if you need to stay cool during the night.

There is a restaurant on the spot, and the food is good! The whole area where the bungalows (and tents!) are set is lovely. Shaded, right on the beach, with lots of hammocks and sun-beds. Robby lights a fire every night and hands out free marshmallows! Loved it! Also, there’s a small beach bar next to all those comfy hammocks where Robby pours delicious drinks for a couple of dollars. The beach is also very clean & not touristy at all. And since it’s quite far from the main party area and it gets pretty dark, you can see the plankton in the water!

Absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for some peace & quiet! Book a tent if you are feeling adventurous.

This place is terrible. The beach not very nice not clean, trashy. Cambodian guy that owns the place, he scammed us by convincing us to rent his motorcycle. No wonder why it’s cheaper than other places. He gave us a very old broken one. When it broke down he tried get more money even when we already got it fixed. He wanted two times of the room’s price. Not many guest there, their business is dying and all he could do is try to scam foreigners like that. It was just a little creek water, we saw everyone else went through with no problem and they got the same kind motorcycle. They kinda corporate with the motorcycle fixing place. I saw the guy that fixed our motorcycle keep getting calls from the resorts because they tried to call him about if he’s seen their motorcycle go to his place. It was not a big deal at all but that dude wasn’t try to fix it right. He took like 3hours just to mess around before he finally decided to fix it, the longer he takes the more he makes. I heard from the woman down the road where it broke down said that some resorts they’re doing that too. We just gave the money since he wanted so badly we just want to get it over with. They had nothing at restaurants! I looked at the menu they told us they didn’t have it like half the menu, no western food, no cocktails, no actual decent food at all. The bathroom was gross, the water won’t even go down. They said it was the best view one but not really there’s tree all over the place blocking the view and it’s far off up there. They don’t even bother clean up or pick up the trash at their place, there’s stuffs all over the place. This place is dying, it’s small and nothing to do really. Far off from things, it sucks! The worst place I’ve ever been, won’t recommend to stay on coconut beach at all. They seemed nice at first until they can get to make a deal out of every little mistake u make and try scam u. Cambodia need to get better. Specially on an island like that they don’t treat the foreigners right. And you’re always gonna get ripped off.

Response from Robbie Coconutbeach, Owner at Coconutbeach Bungalows Party Hostel
Responded 9 Jan 2022
This is our first reply of the reviews from the guests. We have lots of guests but this one is very bad, liar and snake. First of all we would like to let all of you know that the motorbike we rent to them is new and we just bought one year ago and regular maintenance front brake and back brake and we change the oil regularly. All the bikes are properly checked by the hotel owner and the guests before starting the trip. We also tell the guests the direction where should they go. But this couple they find the only road on the island that has stream called Lung Set Stream. This is even the local they won't drive their motorbike there. It is now in Covid time. We do not have everything in the menu, but we have about nearly 20 dishes with Western and Khmer Food. Other guests they have no problems eating at our place or other restuarants down at the beaches. There are other three restaurants on Coconutbeach. This couple they just find anything we do not have and make the complaints. It is Covid time, and it is pretty understandable for other guests. We never call the motorbike machanic guy. We get a call from them that the motorbike engine is completely shut down because they drive it into the water. We ask the location they said they are at Lung Set stream. We know that there is a motorbike fixing place near by Lung Set. So They must fix their motorbikes there. Robbie just goes there just to check with the machanic after they left the shop. The machanic said the couple said Just make it run even though he suggested the water must go into the engine and it must be changed the lubricant oil. The couple said "Do not change the oil and Just make it run because they rent the motorbike expensive already" The machanic bet with me that my motorbike can run at most 20 km more and the motorbike will broke down again because The water go into the engine and the electrical system in the bike. That piss me off . We bought the motorbike for $700 New and rent for $10 and when they make mistakes themself by driving it into the water but they refuse not to fix it properly. So we decide to charge them $30 plus to change the lubricant oil and the other oil recommended by the machanic. They refuse to pay and even do not want to pay for the room they stayed and do early check out . At the end the problem is solved by discount %50 room for them as we feel pity on the Khmer lady who has a Western husband and She told us that her husband is a psychic that is why we feel pity on her. But you know what the one that throw this review to us is the lady. Just for suggestion whether you are beauty or not but inside you you should be pretty and open minded. But instead we feel that you are a liar and a snake lady inside. The motorbike after was checked and oil changed next morning. The motorbike cannot be started because of the fuse box and battery problems. The oil comes out from the motorbike is white ish like Coffee milk. We really regret that we rent our motorbike to you and you drove it into the water. They not only do fighting words with Robbie, but they also do fighting words with other guests in the property as well. When you travel somewhere you open minded and you will be happy anywhere. For amongst the thousand good reviews we got from the guests from third party online travel sites this is the first reply and last reply from us Best regards, Robbie and Coconutteam

Hello , I'm Cornelia from Holland and I have been in the Coconut Beach Bungalows since the 9th of December!
I never planned to stay this long but every time I wanted to leave I changed my mind .
So I've been here during the good and hard times , the holidays when it was very full and happy here and during which the family really tried there utmost to make it a happy time for everybody .
Now ,Easter Sunday I'm still here because my visa is till June ánd all the borders of the surrounding countries are closed .
There not many people here now , naturally , about 10 and supplies are not like they were before but the family still does whatever they can to make things as good as they can but this being an island it's hard to get everything they want .
So , I've loved this place since I got here , my lovely tent with a big mattress and linen , the sea and the beach and most of all the great family here ánd of course , their lovely grandson of 7 months , Robyn !

So, it's not a bad place at all to be stuck , greetings from Cornelia .

I stayed in a rowhouse room which was quite depressing. The bungalows look better but seem overpriced to me. Many cheap permanent tents to rent right by the beach with lots of lazy drinking backpackers so if this is what you like, then this is the place for you. Beach here is mediocre. Staff are ok. Food is ok. General area is ok.. nearby fishing village is interesting but drowning in their garbage. So, overall just an ok place is my honest opinion.

When I was there a few weeks ago (stayed in tent) we only got 1 towel, for both showering and beach - but we had our own small towels for the beach so it wasn't a problem. However, I'm sure they'll be able to provide you another towel for the beach if you ask as they are super friendly and accommodating.
