Just stayed 2 nights at Biggin Hall and we were not disappointed. It is a secret hideaway, perfect for visiting local sites like Chatsworth. The staff were all superb, they all stand out from the very welcome receptionist to all the restaurant staff. Sadly, we have noticed more recently the poor customer service we have experienced in several establishments up and down the country and now I know why; it’s because Biggin Hall has cornered the market and recruited the very best. Well done to you all. The room was comfortable, with some lovely touches. The rain shower was a joy and after a day out in the cold, a hot bath was a delight. Thank you for a lovely stay. Merry Christmas

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel is a hidden gem, tucked away in the countryside, but within easy reach of local attractions. We took our bikes, and could easily access the Tissington Trail and the High Peaks Trail from the hotel. It was a pleasant surprise to have a bottle of beer and Prosecco in the fridge on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the members of staff. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel. All meals wonderful. An extra treat was having a packed lunch provided each day. What a wonderful idea. We will definitely be returning here.

Biggin Hall Hotel is a jewel of a find in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District. Upon our arrival, we received a very friendly welcome and as it was our first visit was shown to our room. We stayed in Room 1 in the main building, and it was excellent, exceedingly comfortable. In the fridge was complimentary drinks and to our surprise there was also a bottle of fresh milk instead of the usual UHT cartons which made our tea/coffee more enjoyable. The evening meal was exceptional as was our breakfast the following morning. We had only booked for the one night and began to wish we could stay longer, so much so, we have now booked for a longer stay next year. The service was impeccable and all the staff were very friendly and helpful, a credit to the hotel. We would recommend this hotel to anyone for a delightful and relaxing stay. We left an item behind, a “big thank you to all” for returning this to us so quickly.

We stayed for our wedding anniversary. The chef sent a cake. The food is fantastic. The staff kind and thoughtful. We loved the quality bed and as a mixed heritage couple we never had a flicker (I mention only because sometimes we are not welcome!). The bacon as previously mentioned is excellent and we come from Wiltshire which is bacon central. The toiletries good and the free pack lunch a kindness. We ate ours on the way home. Well done Biggin Hall.

A favourite hotel of ours for over 20 years now, and it gets better every time. We mentioned this to some people we were chatting with over preprandial drinks, and they agreed, but said 30 years in their case. And they were then pipped by another couple, listening in, who volunteered 40 years. So, people keep coming back. The rooms are tasteful and relaxing, and the beds comfortable. The restaurant is faultless, and the team, headed up by manager Andy, combines professionalism with warmth. Dovedale, Hartington, Beresfordale, and a thousand enchanting walks, long, short, easy, or challenging, are all to be found within the vicinity, and you set out with your free packed lunch of sandwiches, crisps, fruit and chocolate bar. Good value, and highly recommended.

This really has to be one of the best hotels I've stayed at. Our second visit and it goes from strength to strength. From the moment you step through the door to reception you are greeted by a warm friendly welcome who inform you of where everything is and offer to take your luggage. The rooms are immaculate and the fridge holds wonderful surprises - real milk for starters and - wait for it- complimentary bottles of alcohol to keep everyone happy. Dinner is phenomenal - plates of tasty courses with unusual twists and a varied choice of food that will appeal to everyone. The restaurant staff are brilliantly attentive without being overbearing and just want you to have a lovely experience - which you can't fail to do. Breakfast offers great choices and there is also a free packed lunch thrown in - and a very good one too! If only all hotels had the staff training, initiative and high standards of Biggin Hall.

First the positives of which there were many. Fabulous location, excellent staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Great food, clean comfortable hotel. An extra great touch were the complimentary packed lunches and beer and Prosecco in the room. What let the hotel down was our room. We were in a courtyard room (15) which was dark, musty and didn’t feel clean. I know it is a dog friendly room but that doesn’t excuse it. The carpet was stained and the windows didn’t open so couldn’t air the room without leaving the door to the courtyard open. The wardrobe (which was a cupboard under the stairs)was so musty I had to spray it with perfume fire hanging my clothes in there. The bathroom was fine but would have liked a blind to the window as felt very exposed with the light in as in the ground floor. The furniture was very tired and stained. The tv was a disaster, we could only access ITV as BBC had a big red banner across the bottom of the screen and no other Chanel’s were available. We did report it but it wasn’t resolved. Such a shame as the rest of the hotel was lovely.

A really warm welcome on a foul stormy day. We were not residents but straight off the flooded, windswept roads. The staff were wonderful and provided a late lunch, offered to light the fire and made us extremely comfortable. The lunch was delicious. My friend, a priest and pianist from Greece, was given the use of the grand piano. Polyoreo!

We have just returned from spending a wonderful weekend in the area, staying the night at this gem of a hotel. Firstly I’ll get the 1% negative point out of the way, which is not the fault of the hotel but rather of the 17th century architects for whom soundproofing was not a top priority and the irresponsible dog owners in the apartment above ours whose dog yapped solidly for an hour from our arrival at 4pm and ran about the place for the entire night, meaning I unfortunately got no sleep whatsoever. Now that small point’s out of my system I’ll get to the many good points 😊 The hotel itself is a charming building consisting of the attractive main part and several courtyard chalet rooms, one of which was our accommodation (room 15). From the very moment of our arrival we were made to be extremely welcome and at home by the lovely receptionist (who I believe was the same lady I spoke to a couple of days before when I telephoned to make our restaurant booking) who helped to carry our bags and showed us to our room. She explained that there was complimentary beer and Prosecco in the mini fridge which was a lovely surprise and went down very well as I had a lovey soak in the bath. Another welcome surprise was the revelation that guests were gifted a lovely packed lunch the following day which we enjoyed during our second long walk of the weekend - the loop trail from Biggin and back calling through Harrington which is a beautiful, charming little village. Our room was perfectly comfortable - the bed was a little soft for me but that’s just personal preference and perhaps fans in the rooms could be considered as it did get a bit over-warm although we felt perfectly safe leaving the windows open during the night. The bathroom was lovely, particularly the bath itself and there was plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate and fresh milk in the fridge which was a nice, thoughtful touch as, let’s face it, no one ever said ‘I really love those ridiculous little plastic containers full of something erroneous pretending to be milk). In the evening we popped next door to the little pub for a drink and then back to the hotel for our evening meal. We were a little early and waited in the fabulous library where we were served a drink by a lovely member of staff whose name I’m embarrassed to say I never caught. He served us for the remainder of our stay, including breakfast, and was the most attentive waiter I have ever come across. That’s not to take anything away from the other serving staff as they were all amazing, but this particular young man stood out for us due to his quirky manner and attention to detail. A rare display of someone clearly enjoying their job. It was especially refreshing. The Chefs need a special mention here too as the food was outstanding. The icing on the cake, if you’ll pardon the pun, was the wonderful surprise desert, which was brought out at the end of our meal. I had happened to mention to the receptionist when I telephoned through our table reservation that it was our 38th wedding anniversary, and she had obviously taken this on board! It made a wonderful evening even more special so I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in making it so. Lastly, breakfast. I plumped for full English and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. And hot! So often that’s not the case so kudos for that. I could have done with a lie down in a the room after what I put away, but no rest for the wicked, we had to check out and set off on our walk. I have a feeling it won’t be too long before we’re checking in again however! Maybe next time in the main part of the hotel, or at least an upstairs courtyard room. Thank you for helping to make our anniversary another one to remember for all the right reasons.

Outstanding service & hospitality.... for over 5 years we have visited Biggin Hall most months (visiting an elderly relative in a nearby nursing home). From our very first visit, manager Andy and all the team have provided exemplary hospitality and we've become good friends at this 'home away from home'. The rooms, whilst not luxurious, are comfortable, clean and well equipped (with complimentary wine & local ale in the silent mini refrigerator) and the meals are superb, including the vegetarian options, the hot breakfasts cooked to order and excellent croissants. Even lunch is provided in a carry-out bag as most guests are walkers. The gardens, peace and quiet and ambiance of Biggin Hall are a rare find. Whilst this is not 5 star luxury and mobile signal is dodgy, if you want to 'escape the madding crowd', this oasis in the Derbyshire countryside cannot be beaten. We've travelled extensively over the years, in UK and overseas, and Biggin Hall will always be our special place with very special people running it.
