Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gorgeous oldie worldie pub with a log fire! Perfect place to while away a few hours after a hard day walking.

We received a warm welcome and enjoyed our stay. Our room was beautifully decorated, really comfy bed and lovely en suite. It was clear that the tea-tray had really been thought about, and we appreciated the little extras such as fresh milk, good quality teas and coffees, bottled water and biscuits!

The only downside to the room was the noisy macerator waste pump. Every time we or guests in neighbouring rooms flushed the toilet or took a shower, the noise was quite disturbing. We were woken up a number of times in the night.

We had dinner in the pub. On the whole the food was good, but the steak was average and overpriced at £23.95. Unfortunately we missed breakfast but the menu looked delicious.

Overall a lovely stay. Thank you.

Stayed here overnight - really impressed by this traditional inn, offering great quality accommodation and tasty food.
Rooms were small but beautifully refurbished , clean, comfy and well equipped.
Staff were friendly and trained well - great service.
Love the values of this small local chain - great to see them investing in local inns and creating welcoming and well run pubs with rooms.
Will keep in mind too when looking for overnight just off M6.
Would recommend to anyone looking for a traditional inn offering quality at an affordable price!

This is the perfect stop off point if travelling from the South to Scotland. Great, friendly staff, excellent off road parking, spacious bars and restaurant with good atmosphere. Although on the roadside there was no noise at night. and beds were comfy.
Fresh milk available in the upstairs corridor. Nicely decorated throughout, bedrooms have everything you need but are "bijou". Take in small bags. We enjoyed the Scampi and chips, and excellent breakfast. The evening menu is heavy on fried food.
Our Border Terrier enjoyed her visit, exercise area up to the left and over the road and bins available.
We would visit again!

Stayed one night in what was called a double room however it was a small single with an old lumpy double bed squeezed in. The place was old shabby and very much in need of an update. Magazines in drawer were two years old and sticky. Bathroom was dirty, Flooring coming up, toilet system very loud and shower slow. Tv was tiny was too small. Sockets in room taped over with do not use written on! The food was tasty and we mentioned we weren’t happy with the room only to be told come back in a few months after the new owners had decorated etc. This wasn’t really good enough as we still paid full price. Breakfast was ok nothing special. Staff were friendly and polite.

As frequent visitors to the lakes, and Pooley Bridge, we decided to stay somewhere we'd never stayed before, and chose The Queens Head Inn. We are so glad we did! We all had a great stay! The building is huge inside, and pub is old fashioned with low ceilings and dark roof beams everywhere, and in total contrast, the ensuite rooms are really modern, and have been decorated superbly!
We also had 2 dogs, and someone with a rollator to accommodate, and this was no issue at all.
Food was delicious and the staff were amazing! Special thanks to the tall blonde lady who really looked after us!

This trip was a sentimental trip, and The Queens Hetad will never fully appreciate the huge part they've played in it. Thank you all so much! We definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back!

All the staff were fantastic. On check in the manager upgraded us to a larger room which had been recently refurbished to a high standard with stylish en suite shower room.
Complimentary tea coffee etc & delicious shortbread bics.
Lovely 300 year old traditional pub that had the log fire on one of the nights.
Usual bar food menu but all good quality ingredients cooked to perfection.
We had the fish & chips, Lovely fresh fish in a crisp batter and the steak & ale pie, succulent steak in a rich beef gravy.
Chocolate brownie for dessert all finished off with a cappuccino.
The breakfasts were equally as good & portions very generous.
Good walks from the door over to Askham village and onto the Ullswater fells.
Can definitely recommend and will stay again.

We had a room (5) with a macerating toilet - to be avoided!! Nobody warned us. the noise which goes on all the time was really alarming.
En suite too small, difficult to avoid bumping off fittings.
Breakfast restricted to 8am to 9am, even at weekends.
Dining room meals very average.
We were so disappointed we left a day early. However, as a reult of an administrative mistake we did not ever receive a copy of terms and conditions so we were obliged to forfeit a night's stay paid for.
Management promised a response regarding the administration but a month later we have heard nothing.

A one night stay close to the motorway for easy access north or south, but in the peace of a country village. Staff were very accommodating on the phone when we said we might be late arriving, and indeed they were as the pub part was just on closing time. Comfy bed for our stay, and a good breakfast in a very convivial atmosphere with other guests - plus smiley staff member. Old beams downstairs, refurbed modern rooms upstairs (could've done with a bit more clothes-hanging space, b ut that's nit-picking).
(Can't review the restaurant, as we didn't have an evening meal).
Good tarmac carpark at the back.

Six of us arrived for an evening meal and were squeezed onto a table for four. As we ordered the food we were told that two choices were missing from the main course menu. One meal of ham egg and chips had two fried eggs and the yolks had completely dried out and were hard. Not impressed, the only positive were the serving staff were very efficient and anything we asked for they attended to immediately.
