about 600 baht per night, a pretty decent clean rooms with fans, people are nice and welcoming - I enjoyed my stay, definitely fit for backpackers and people on a budget.

Though I must say, the nearby Meow bungalows (and restaurant) is more recommended.. they are not on trip advisor, but they are closer to the beach, and they have the best papaya salad in Thailand! the rooms are the same as Had Farang's, just 100 baht cheaper.

if you're looking for comfort and sterility though, go to one of the big resorts :)

Had Farang Bungalows is a good place to stay. It's location, just back from the beach, means it's not overpriced. I chose a fan bungalow, which cost me £31 for 3 nights. I found it cool enough, as the weather was cloudy and ac rooms were more than double the price. There were cheaper rooms, with shared facilities, but, at this price, why share?? The resort has very friendly, if over familiar, staff and a very good, reasonably priced restaurant. You must try the Masaman chicken! The cheapest beer in the islands (Koh Mook is LOW priced on everything edible). If you are into wildlife, in my stay, there was a snake on the beach path and a 1.30metre Monitor lizard nearby. A family of monkeys constantly feeding in the garden. A frog in the bathroom and plenty of small geckos keeping the mosquitoes down. Too many stray dogs is the downside of Koh Mook.

We had small bungalow with fan and cold shower. Bungalow was very nice but toilet was dirty and smelt weird. Staff were kind and helpful. Hotel restaurant was good. 2min walk to beach. Lots of mosquitos and other bugs because of the jungle around. There was mosquito net over the bed so no problem with sleeping.

Oow men, we arrived and all seemed so good. Nice owner, decent bungalows. But when the night started we noticed that we where not the only one in the bungalow. The place was packed with rats! After a night between being awake and sleeping because of the rats we got a wakeup call from the owner.

The guy submitted us to leave because he booked the room already for other people. Who where staying longer. So we ended up elsewhere.

In my opinion, go somewhere else. The owner is rude, kicking out people for better money. And give yourself some rest at night :)

We woke up at 1 a.m. and found our bed in our superior cottage crawling with bedbugs. They were under the sheets, in and under the pillows and on the mattress. They bite, they suck blood, and it itches like hell.

We found the caretaker(?) and moved in the middle of the night to another cottage. As the place was full of mosquitoes, we asked that the a/c was turned on. At 2 a.m. we found that spraying the room was not an option. Very reluctantly this was accepted without extra payment.

We had unfortunately pre-paid for 2 nights.

The a/c was switched off the next morning while we were having breakfeast, no refunds for a ruined night was offered, and no appology was given.

We did not see any activity around the infested cottage the next day, and as it is well known, bedbugs will spred from one cottage to another as the bed clothes are washed together.

This is completely unacceptable, and we cannot recommend Had Farang.

They are actually not even in a good location, and their popularity probably mainly rests on the bad reviews of resort Charly.

To avoid any doubts, we have photos of the bedbugs....

As we were cycling around Koh Mook, it started to rain. It was lunch time, so we stopped there. It seemed a bit too "simple" but we had no choice.
We have been coming to Thailand for many years and have been living there for 6 years.
It was the best food we ever had. Prawns with garlic very fresh and cooked to perfection, delicious chicken with ginger, glass noodle soup very tasty and not spicy, as requested. Very light and not greasy banana fritters.
The food took a very long time to arrive but as we were not in a hurry, it was OK. The staff was very nice, friendly and apologetic.
We will definitely go back!

The worst "hotel" in my life. We had a bungalow placed in forest and at first look great, the monkeys were running around and lots of flowers. But when I looked closely the bed sheeds were really dirty, it smelled really bed from "bathroom". I said ok, we will survive, then we got out to get a bite in recepction and on the way the reception, the snake crawled in front of me. I was really terrified. But the worst was at night. You coudn't have the light on, because of moschitos and all kind of bugs, who came in through the rifts. We couldn't sleep, because the strange noises on the roof of Bungalow, first we thought it was the monkeys, but there were no monkeys around anymore, so I think there were rats. And the price wasn't so cheap, for the bed service we got.

Please do yourself a favour and don't stay here. Bugs everywhere including, ants, mosquitos, rats, animal poo in the room.

The room hadn't been cleaned in years and was disgusting. COLD SHOWERS as well which was awful.

Don't foto this island unless you can afford to spend the money on a luxury villa

The room was dirty and run down. The mosquito nets provided had holes in them and the mosquito grill in the window was patched with toilet paper! Dirtier than the room was the shared bathroom. The place was grimey and clearly had not been properly cleaned in years! I expect a low standard when using budget accomodation on an island off the main tourist trail but this was well below expection and well below anything I have stayed in after 5 months of travelling SE Asia. On top of it all we stayed here because aircon was advertised in our room but found out that their was a mistake on the hotel booking website and it was only a fan room. When we brought the issue to the staffs attention they were very uninterested and tried to fob us off at every opertunity. We remained kind and curtious but it was clear we were getting no help from them. We would need to pay a huge amount to upgrade to an aircon room and we could not get a refund so that we could go to another establishment to get an affordable room with aircon. We ended up having to stay in the hot dirty room for two nights as we were on a tight travelling budget. The room was unbarebly hot with only a fan and we didnt sleep for two days. For the remainder of our stay the staff ignored us and never once made eye contact with us or asked us how we were doing in the room. Even at check out with staff present no one came to talk to us to take the key back. We were very unsatisfied with the staff and property.

We stayed in one of the cheapest rooms you could get minus camping. The bathrooms were separate to the rooms and shared with the couple of rooms next to you. The beds were clean and comfy. Mosquitos between five and seven pm were a nightmare but what do you expect! The restaurant food is simple but the smoothies were great. Friendly service. All in all, if you're a real traveller this place will be no problem for you. It has everything you need and is lovely and cheap. The beach is nearby and one of the best beaches I've been to. That's where you'll be most of the time anyway.
