Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We found the Thornham Hall as we were looking for a short break in Suffolk
It’s a quaint place with only 3 guest rooms but huge grounds. It’s about an hour from the coast so suited us fine for 2 nights
The host Lady Lesley Henniker-Major is charming and keen to take care of you. Her breakfasts were lovely and freshly made. It served our purpose perfectly for 2 nights

Right, if you expect a "normal" hotel experience, don't stay here. If however you want to experience what I imagine it would be like to stay in one of Her Majesty's hunting lodges, and the Queen herself will serve you, then this is the place to come. It's quite an experience! The room was very comfy, quiet and clean, even rather quaintly were some pyjamas laid out to use on the bed. I am laughing as I type this thinking about why the toilet was in a cupboard and the sink was in another cupboard because when converting the room for guests, the aesthetics would be spoiled if the original cupboards were removed and the fact that the lavatory sounded like Concorde taking off when flushed. It's all part of the experience. It was quite Downton Abbey, I imagine that it hadn't changed much in 100 yrs and would have loved to have had a good nose about but felt a bit like I would be intruding so didn't. I probably will next time. The food in the morning was first class and the whole experience was quite surreal but very enjoyable. The escapism from the normal hotel experience is worth it and if you want to experience what being Lord Grantham would be like, you have to stay here. I hope to be sent to Eye again soon so I can rebook.

We stayed for three nights for a long weekend break and it was well worth it. Saw the infamous peacock in a field as we approached along the long driveway. There are two now, down from four and apparently much more friendly.
Drinks on the terrace and felt immediately relaxed in the lazy, cucconed comfort of our suite. A true suite, by the way, not just a larger room as hotels are trying to get away with nowadays. A seperate dressing room and lovely bathroom.
We walked to the local pub, "The Four Horseshoes" which is OK for a pub-food dinner. Returned to a turndown serviced room. Lovely.
We spend the next day walking the estate, which took all day, stopping for a nice lunch at The Forge, which situated where the Thornham Hall walk offically starts. Set off the burglar alarm at Thornham Pava chuch by mistake. It's officially closed on Fridays but we saw the incrediablly old wall paintings inside. Had a fabulous, veggie dinner at "The Walnut", a short drive away.
The next day we walked to a local, carnivours plants nursary, "Triffid Nursaries" and bought some incrediable 3 feet high pitcher plants, (apparently they are making an appearance in the next "Jurassic Park - Dominion" film.
On the way back bumped into Rick Wakenman, walking his dog around the estate. He lives in Norfolk,
Must mention the breakfasts, which are absolutely wonderful. Taken in the dinning room, overlooking the crocket lawn to three, throughbreed horses, seeing out their days. in a field beyond. Wonderful, welcoming stay by Lady H.

Absolutely charming, well worth travelling 120 miles to stay here. Stayed in the suite which is amazing. Perfect 2 night stay. Quiet, no door bangers, noisy neighbours. Perfect host. Would highly recommend. Good pubs within 5 mins drive. Would recommend the White Horse for evening meals.

This is not a hotel but much better. Only 3 bedrooms with great views over the extensive grounds. What a
welcoming hostess is Lady Leslie Heniker Major. On arrival she immediately made is us yes and cake.
Coffee in the garden before breakfast which was first class.
The star is Genghis the ultra friendly black German Shepherd.
As it was pandemic time guests ate at different times. It deserves 5* but the bath did not have grab handles. Ok for younger people.
Highly recommended.

What can we say that hasn’t already been said?

Attentive hostess, beautiful if not a little quirky room, outstanding views, amazing breakfast and an incredibly comfortable bed.

We highly recommend visiting Thornham Hall. Gill and Sam Masters

Loved it here. Lady Lesley was superb host. Dont expect tv this is a place to rest up and enjoy the quiet. Breakfast excellent. Rooms large (we had the suite) overlooked the horses in the estate land. Bed very comfy. Enjoyed our 2 days.

I had a very comfortable overnight stay in this amazing historic house. It was splendid to wake up to a beautiful view over the Suffolk countryside. My breakfast was superb and the room was immaculately clean . Thank you Lesley for making my stay perfect.

We travelled to Ipswich to visit relatives and decided to stay overnight. We chose this B+B
having seen all the awards it has been given. The location was good and the rooms looked OK but bathroom needed updating. We arrived at 4.40 but were told we were early- our arrival time we stated as 5.00! We had coffee and chatted to other guests from Australia then went to the local pub for a meal. On our return at 8.30pm we went to our room to read our books. However the rooms were too cold and by 9.00pm we were in bed just to get warm. The following morning we arose at 7.00am and went to get a shower. Shower was cold,no hot water for a bath, wash or shave. Breakfast was good but if they cannot get the basics right then the will not get custom. It felt like Fawlty Towers with its rather eccentric owner. The other guests had the same problems. On leaving the owner leaned out of the window and said"don't worry about the scratches on your car, they will polish out". I looked at my expensive Jaguar car to find scratches down both sides made by the peacocks. At £110 per night this is an expensive mistake!
I would not recommend it to anyone. I cannot understand how it gained all the awards. The owner must have friends in the right places!

We found this B+B a wonderful place to stay for the weekend. Lesley the host was really kind and attentive to everything we could need. Breakfast was delicious; a wonderful choice and very tasty. The grounds are beautiful; allow enough time to walk around and enjoy the wildlife and scenery. No TV in the rooms but this made it very peaceful. Things are a little old fashioned but all very fitting with the beautiful house. Would recommend and hope to come back again one day.
