We enjoy staying in Motels like this as we did in our motorcycle tripping days. THIS is a sweet find and knew it right from the pleasant hostess at the registration desk to turning the key to our room door. Convenient that it’s next door to a Canadian Tire too. Most special is the tidy land and beautifully treed lot on the backside of the Motel. Tip: Ask for a room on the backside because its quieter & it faces the trees. Highlight: the spectacular willow that I did my morning QiGong practice underneath. Sweet, sweet, sweet and spotlessly clean.

Very clean, quiet and quaint motel. The motel has been recently renovated. Very comfortable newer beds. Easy in and out. Very friendly staff. Amenities nearby and several restaurants close by deliver. Great value.

NO CONTROL OVER YOUR HEAT or ac. There is no thermostat in the room! Assume there is a central thermostat that controls heat for all rooms. We stayed 2 nights, both without even a sheet on either my wife or self for most of the night (even after closing 1 of 2 air ducts on the second night), additionally, the ductwork would make a loud bang when it stopped blowing heat. Consequently, we both had terrible sleeps both nights. Would have left after the first night but there were no rooms left in town except this motel. There was also no plugins in the room to speak off. The bathroom doesn't have any plugins, in the main room, we had a choice of 2 power bars laying on the floor that already had other things plugged into them. Insurance/fire inspectors would give them a warning to remove them & to install proper wall plugins, then shut them down, if they didn't comply, as these are a fire hazard. Lack of overall lighting, forget about reading a paper in bed! Owner asked me to cancel my original booking on Booking.com as they were full, so I did thinking we all make mistakes. Then booked for the following day on Booking.com, she then by email wanted me to cancel that booking 6 days after it was booked. Only after a reply to her email saying that I would be informing Booking.com if I didn’t get the booking, that she magically found a room for 2 days. Upon arrival ,she wanted to charge more for the room, so I showed her my Booking.com reservation to get both the price & type of room that was booked. I had booked a double room & expected queen beds, ended up with 2 double beds (54 in. beds that a 6 ft man’s feet are going to hang over the end) not queen beds as advertised on Booking.com. Ironically, the motel was only a 1/3 full that Saturday, after she had told me she was full during all of our conversations. Thinking she had wanted you to book for 2 days, cut out Booking.com or ?? NOT HAPPY!!

While staying in Portage , we stay at the Sunset, We have stayed here before, and enjoy staying here, it is small, but your room is great, you have your bed with a great size bathroom, tub/shower combo, small kitchenette, with everything to get you started in the morning or for snacks during the day, The surrounding area is very peaceful, lots of trees and tables to sit in the back, and relax, it is very beautiful in the back of the Motel, we took some family photo's by the big birch tree. The managers are very welcoming, I needed a blow dryer and with 2 minutes, he had it at my room, Great place, very close to everything you could need , Great place Thank you to the owners.

I would highly recommend the Sunset Motel if you want a very clean, comfortable and reasonable priced motel. Across from Tim Hortons, McDonalds and a small mall, beside Canadian Tire and walking distance to Walmart. Microwave and small fridge in our room.

Clean, quiet, nice grassy area around it. Updated bathroom , comfortable beds, the owners were accommodating with extra towels and ice, a heater for our room cuz it was cold in there at first. I would for sure stay there again if I was ever in town again.

Second night of our drive from Vancouver to montreal and we were tired after travelling from Medicine Hat. We saw the reviews on here and decided to not stay in Brandon but to come to Portage and stay in this hotel. We were fortunate enough to get the last room. Well the reviews are accurate. Clean. Updated. Well priced. Definitely would recommend.

Driving thru Portage la Prairie and came across this gem. Owner is friendly and even though we arrived late on a Sunday night, provided us with a cute room. Two doubles and all the comforts of home. Central air is a plus, cool without the noise. Cost was very reasonable, 75 plus tax. We had a quiet nights sleep. Recommended!
