Because of positive reviews by others and its webpage showing an attractive, convenient site, we reserved a room with private bath for four nights at La Maison du Lac.

Our bedroom had one wall where the wallboard been patched and replastered but not repainted. The bedroom opened into an attached small salon with a sofa bed and TV (the batteries for its remote control were dead ... we had to ask for new ones). Our first shower in our private bath was horrible; the water temperature simply could not be adjusted correctly. It was either freezing cold or scalding hot. It took tightening of fixtures with my trusty Swiss army knife to make it workable for the rest of our stay.

Our bed was comfortable but it was not remade nor were its sheets changed during our entire stay. Towels, once damp, did not dry because of the high ambient humidity. Replacement clean towels were provided and liquid soap dispensers in the bathroom were refilled only when we asked.

The website makes the place sound idyllic and it is. We stayed in room 1 that overlooks the lake and it was just beautiful. The room was clean and spacious with plenty of room for 3.

The host Normand was friendly and eager to practise his English. Although he was perhaps a little too friendly to us as single girls!

However, if I was to return to St Agathe with a boyfriend I would love to stay here again.
