The perfect location Taking a staycation due to current circumstances we decided to take the plunge and travel from Edinburgh to Cornwall - somewhere that had always been on our to do list...... and was my wife’s first time camping.... so it had to be right! And The boy done good In choosing Polruan Holiday Park to pitch our tent. I can only describe the location as a perfect base whether it be to relax, visit picturesque villages or walk to stunning (and I mean stunning) beaches. It was idyllic - it’s right on the coast and a short walk from the village of Polruan where you can enjoy fish and chips sitting round the harbour. The sun shone and to pitch a tent in a location overlooking the sea with the sun shining was more than we could have wished for. Like everyone we were concerned about Covid 19 but we had nothing to worry about. The site was spotless and had adapted everything accordingly. We felt safe and very comfortable. The family who run it were extremely welcoming, very hard working and everything was catered for including a very well stocked shop reflecting realistic prices on all products. We had electricity which made a big difference. The site grounds are manicured to perfection and coastal walks easily accessible. If you like the outdoors and are looking for peace and relaxation in an idyllic, quite stunning location Polruan Holiday Park is a must. …
We spent 5 nights here, with our tent, at the beginning of August. We had pitch 7 in the upper field (also with use of pitch 8 as it was not in use during the current Covid crisis to allow more spacing). We had lovely sea views in a couple of directions from the tent. The site is immaculate with super clean showers and toilets. The owners had worked hard to install hand sanitizers etc. during the current health crisis. This is a small site and other occupants were friendly and polite. There is a very well stocked shop at reasonable prices, a great information room with books to borrow, good washing up facilities, room with freezer, fridge and ironing facilities and the free WiFi was excellent. The grounds are immaculate with the grass kept cut short. There are strict rules regarding behaviour and noise in the evenings, but this was one of the reasons we chose this site! No loud music and other campers were very respectful of each other. Polruan village has a couple of pubs. The Russell was our favourite, but the Lugger was good as well.Just a quick hop on the passenger ferry across to Fowey from Polruan. Other people have mentioned the steep hill down to the village, but honestly the walk back was not that bad (I'm 65). Furthermore if you used the coastal path for part of the way back to the camp site it was less steep than using the road the whole way. The last few kilometres to the site is by single track road with passing places. A little daunting, but stick to the directions given to you by the owners and you will be OK. If you are looking for a peaceful camping holiday in beautiful surroundings this is the place for you! Neil and Bobby from Edinburgh, August 2020.…
We had hired a motor home and visited in July 2020. We had a fantastic grass pitch (11) with plenty of room for the motorhome and a pop up gazebo. It was a very relaxed, quiet setting with beautiful views and easy access (path direct from campsite) to Polruan . Polruan quite quiet but great food in the Lugger pub and ferries running every 15 mins across to Fowey, which was bustling and can hire boats and kayaks etc here. The whole site was immaculate and clean, with the owners doing this themselves. The shower and toilet blocks were spotlessly clean and modern. The owners were welcoming and had put lots of safety measures in place due to the current COVID situation. There was an information room with books and information on local ferry and bus times, as well as local/coastal walks. The shop was well stocked with groceries as well as camping items that you might need. The opening hours were also good and longer than a lot of other sites we have been to. We enjoyed it so much we returned 10 days later and will be booking again for next year. Would absolutely recommend for a chilled break.…
What makes site so very perfect is the peace, the views, the stunning and varied walking, the proximity to both Polruan, Fowey and many other lovely Cornish villages should you feel the need to get back in your vehicle, on your bike or on the local bus, which stops right outside the site, and explore. PLUS the huge efforts Kevin, Trudy and Barrie go to to make this site the perfect place to unwind, relax and watch the sun go down are just extraordinary from the perfectly clean, and I really do mean perfectly clean, facilities the brilliant on site shop and the staggering amount of local knowledge, advice and guidance make this site one in a million. We know that this is a site where we can guarantee an extremely warm welcome coupled with peace and quiet, exhaust ourselves on long walks with glorious views and trundle down the hill in the evening to one of the local pubs which serve a great pint and a splendid supper walking some of that off coming back up the hill. All in all we just couldn’t recommend this site enough we love it and shall be returning again and again and again. Thank you K,T & B don’t change a thing at Polruan Holidays it’s perfect as it is.…
POSITIVES Very clean well maintained Easy to find Friendly staff ample space Beautiful sea views VERY VERY quiet ( see negatives ) NEGATIVES Cut off from just about everything Must walk down a 18% hill ( seriously ) to get to Polruan ( nothing really there when you get there ) TOO quiet, pretty much TOTAL noise curfew after 10.30 although campsite as dead as a dodo after 9pm Boring boring boring place to stay Miles of driving on very narrow B road in order to get anywhere more interesting such as Looe Badly stocked campsite shop ( nearest “ larger “ shop a small minimarket in Pelynt 7 miles away on narrow B roads ) SUMMARY IF you are happy sitting on a campsite in silence day after day very cut off from everything then go to Polruan. We’ve stayed on endless campsites in Cornwall for over 45 years now ...sadly would not return here . …
