Sadly, as the buses roll through the Guatemala/Belize border, One precious little gem still survives the ravages of time. Not 50 meters from the border crossing on the Mopan River lies the RML.
A new bridge on the Guat. side has diminished the ambience, but...More
Ideally located next to the border, Rio Mopan Lodge was a quick overnight stop for us on the way to Tikal. We anticipated a nice dinner and quiet room on the water but when we arrived, the restaurant was closed and the bar across the...More
Our stay at the Rio Mopan Lodge was exceptional in many ways.
Not only is the location ideal for exploring Peten, but the lodge, which has been cut out of the jungle itself, sits right on the Guatemala-Belize border, with each room overlooking the Rio...More
Deep in Mayan country, halfway between Guatemala City and Cancun
yet convenient to the main road, lies the intimate Rio
Mopan Lodge, an ecologically sensitive hotel and
botanic garden in an idyllic setting on the Mopan River.
It's ideally located for archeological and general tours,
as well as canoeing, biking, horse riding, and jungle
trekking. All fifteen suites with private bathroom are
well decorated and give onto a delightful veranda on
the bank of the quiet but swiftly-flowing Mopan River.
The Lodge restaurant serves fine, healthy meals influenced
by Inmaculadaâ's love of Mediterranean cooking and the
library, built up over the years around our favorite
theme, the Maya, houses numerous books, films, photographs,
music, and maps and is open to all of our guests.
