#1 of 3 B&Bs / Inns in Thornhill
Traditional family owned country house hotel, pub & restaurant tucked away near Thornhill just outside Stirling, serving the finest food & ale since 1635. For the homely touch, we have 3 log burning fires, including a huge open fireplace in one of the dining rooms. The accommodation upstairs is of an excellent standard and the views from the windows capture the essence of being in the heart of Scotland with the magnificent scenery on its doorstep. The Lion and Unicorn is the perfect place to spend a few days soaking up the true Scottish hospitality that we all want to discover. Full of friendly locals, it is one of the few Free Houses left in Scotland, with reasonable prices on beer.

After arriving in Stirling to a dingy dodgy looking BnB to which we would not stay in we were frantically looking for accomodation for the night. After checking trip advisor I came across Lion and Unicorn. I rang through at about 19.30 looking for that evening. Fiona, the owner answered my call and luckily had availability. I arrived with my brother and was so relieved as we had had over an 8hr car journey, Fiona showed us to the accomodation which was spotlessly clean and warm. We ate in the restaurant, the food was excellent, well presented and plenty of it. There was a lovely friendly atmosphere in the place, log fires burning. The restaurant and bar were very busy but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They couldn't do enough for us, they were extremely polite and helpful. Breakfast was what you'd expect, cereal, toast and a tasty grill..sausages were lovely, also good hot coffee. If I am ever back that way I will definitely return, thankyou Lion and Unicorn !

Found this place by accident and ended up coming for dinner twice. Staff are incredible and as for the food, simply top notch. Credit to the chefs. Highly recommend this place to eat if you are in the area.

Excellent meal for my wife and I which extremely good value. The service was first rate and Eilidh managed to smile with eyes while wearing a face covering. The menu covered local specialities as well as the normal fare.
