Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Braes is a lovely home with comfortable beds, friendly & gracious hosts, great breakfasts, situated on a picturesque hillside surrounded by beautiful views. It's also convenient to Loch Lomond, the Trossachs National Park, as well as Stirling Castle.

We are a family of three with a 5YO son, and he really loved sleeping in the separate bunk bed room and listening to the sheep.

We really enjoyed walking in the peaceful sheep pastures surrounding the house and taking in the views. The neighboring village of Thornhill had a great hotel pub called Lion and Unicorn for dinner and beers.

Beautiful room, with outstanding breakfast area and extremely warm and welcoming hostess. If we return to Scotland, we would stay a week here and a week in the Strathgorm in Skye. The Braes was central to Glasglow, Edinburgh and great hiking areas.

My wife and I stayed only a very short night there. The Braes was barely the only accommodation available in the area at the time we knew we would attend to the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles. But we liked the place; our room was large and comfortable. The Braes is a bit secluded, about 1.5 km off Thornhill village, where you can find The Lion & Unicorn pub and restaurant, a very good dinning option. We left the place very early (5.30am) and then couldn’t have breakfast but Robin, the owner, proposed kindly some takeaway. For sure a good place, but our stay was too short.

Imagine a silent place surrounded by green fields and sheep.
Imagine to be welcomed by a nice couple in a cozy house.
Imagine an appetizing breakfast served in a panoramic veranda.
Imagine to be close to many places by far from their noise.

Simply the best. No detail over looked. Our hosts were just simply fantastic! Loved the location, the views, the comfy bed, the amenities, the comfy lounge areas, and the breakfast was unparalleled. Eilidh is a wonderful cook and we could talk to her for hours! Our whole trip, we were never fed as much or as well. When traveling, it is essential to start your day with a good breakfast and this was truly superb. The location is a gateway to a lot of great towns, castles, distilleries, etc. to visit. If ever back this way, this will be our home away from home. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Very lovely B&B with great views, in a quiet area! We had the family room which was big, spotless clean and had super comfy beds. The kids loved the bunk beds (in an extra room) just next door. Eilidh was a lovely host and prepared an amazing breakfast every morning. We loved the bright & sunny front room - the perfect place to hang out and play games with the kids.
We even were lucky enough to watch the sheep being sheared. What an experience!
Thanks again to Eilidh and Robin for the warm welcome - we have fond memories of our stay with you - and again many thanks for the birthday cake for our little girl :) Best regards from France, Daniela & family

The Braes was exceptional!! Clean outstanding rooms and bathrooms and the beds were so comfortable!! The views were incredible and the food, oh my!! Homemade bread for breakfast and the strawberries just melt in your mouth!! Ellen & Eilidh were the perfect hostess!! We stayed in 8 B &B's on our trip to Scotland from the USA and the Braes was our first stay and our absolute BEST!! I wish it had also been our last!! I hope to go back and visit them some day!! If you're looking for the perfect B & B, look no further!!

We stay at The Braes to break our journey and look around the area whenever we are travelling north to the Highlands. We did so again this year and were not disappointed. The Braes is a comfortable and clean place to stay in quiet surroundings with friendly and helpful hosts. Located close to Calendar and Stirling, it is convenient for both lochs and mountains and attractions like the Two Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel

Sadly we had somehow booked this place in error and it ended up being 200 miles from where we were actually staying. I am still not sure how this happened. Anyway when i contacted them hoping they could possibly only charge us for one day they insisted on charging us for both days since they had " washed linens and bought food". Since we had to pay for a whole other place we felt it was a bit inflexible as we were stuck paying over 200 euro for absolutely nothing as well as over 200 euro for the place we're actually stayed at.

As we received a last-minute email cancellation after 5pm on the evening of arrival, we did charge for the whole (two night) stay, as per our cancellation policy. We're sorry not to have had the chance to host you at The Braes and hope you had a great time in Scotland all the same.

Superb bed and pillows, fantastic ensuite and shower, great breakfast choice was endless. Hostess was attentive without being overbearing or annoying. Only 50 mins from Edinburgh where bed prices were crazy. This is probably the best nights stay I have ever paid for!
