We stayed at the Pilgrim for their 2 night- new year package.

We had a accessible double room, which had great views across the garden and valley. The room was large, with a well layout wet room e.g. when you had a shower the wash basin and w.c. stayed dry !

The deal include all a good selection of meals, with choices from menus which was freshly cooked, served at individual tables - so you got that personal attention.
The food was of very very good quality.

It's a shame The Pilgrim is not close to where we lived, else we would be looking to use the restaurant on a regular basis !!!

We stayed for two nights over New Year. It is country house hotel so the floors do squeak slightly.
Nice welcome from receptionist who took us to our room . Clean and tidy, nice furniture , TV , reasonably comfortable bed, bathroom again clean and tidy , hot water , tea making facilities , nice view over the grounds / countryside at the back. Chamber maid on the ball. A couple of minor comments :- difficult to control temperature room tended to be on the warm side from the bathroom radiator which didn't appear to have any means of adjusting it . No box of paper tissues.

Old style and welcoming bar .

News Year's Eve dinner , hotel had previously asked for your choice of courses from their menu and it worked well , no mix ups. I enjoyed all 3 of my courses , especially the chicken jalfrezi , but wife was disappointed with her rack of lamb far too much fat and only a little meat . Live evening entertainment which was very enjoyable , the singer put in a real stint well over 2 hours in total ( in the morning he had a sore throat ) and his choice of songs was in tune with audience. Fireworks at midnight.

Good full English breakfast properly cooked no complaints, selection of fruit pastries etc ,limited selection of juices , nice fresh bread , make your own tea/coffee from machine.

New Year's day dinner , duck spring rolls starter pastry casing was too thick and tough otherwise chef did very good job especially the beef bourguignon.

Again good breakfast next morning.

The one criticism we had was that you had to go to the bar to get drinks/bottle of wine to accompany the meal and as a result we didn't have anything on 2nd night as bar was simply too crowded to bother waiting. They should have someone designated to take orders from the diners and go and get the order.

Restaurant and bar staff efficient , friendly and polite.

Plenty of car parking space.

Checkout in morning efficient

My wife and I stayed at the Pilgrim Hotel after a recommendation from friends. The location is well placed for Hereford and other places of interest and there was generous parking no matter at what time we arrived after a day out. Staff were welcoming and the food was fantastic if a little too much for us. Stunning views from our bedroom and the restaurant across the hotel grounds to to this hills beyond.

The hotel is great value coupled with golf at Rodway Hill. The hotel staff are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel has a lot of character and good views across the valley while having breakfast and dinner. The golf transfers went like clockwork - our group of 4 were very impressed with the hotel and value for money. Will happily return and recommend to others.

We stayed at the Pilgrim Hotel as a group of 14 friends, the Pill Onion Growers, who for 36 years have had a friendly competition to grow the biggest onions. The Pilgrim Hotel was available and could offer us 7 rooms for the weekend, at an all inclusive dinner bed and breakfast tariff. The rooms that I saw had spectacular views over the valley to the black mountains, as did the conservatory adjoining the bar. They had two excellent draught bitters available, and we enjoyed drinks before changeing for dinner. They took the trouble to seat us together in the conservatory on a table for 10 (two couples were unable to join us on the FrVday night) and we enjoyed the three course meal, from an extensive menu. Our valley View room (number 9) was comfortable with a King sized bed, the bathroom adequate. Breakfast was serve yourself with tea, coffee and cereals, and breakfast orders were taken and arrived quickly enough. Saturday night, we had tables laid for us in a private dining room, for our annual weigh in, and enjoyed another three course meal. To assist the kitchen staff we had ordered this in advance, Altogether, a most enjoyable stay despite blustery rain on Saturday, which compromised our fabulous views! Very good value for money, thanks to the hard working staff, who double up on reception, waiting and bar duties.

Food was very good.

Would definitely stay again.

Feb 2022 we took advantage of the "All Inclusive" deal - minimum 4 night stay - cream tea every day, predinner drink, bottle of wine with evening meal - full 3 courses with good choice, followed by freshly cooked breakfast in mornings. Great selection of food, large portions, well cooked and presented. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. The restuarant was very well patronised by non residents which demonstrates locals opionion of this hotel. Large room with countryside views. Hotel is on bus route so you can easily escape to Hereford or Ross on Wye with your bus pass

I first discovered this hotel in 2009. Back then I had 3 nights DB&B with drinks and it only cost £165. Back then you could get Haddock pouched in milk for breakfast as well. Unfortunately that is not on the menu now.
Having stay 5 nights over two weeks, I found it to be just as friendly, if not more so now. I find hotels are made of different parts, here the things that stood out was the wonderful in the morning out of the window and the welcoming smiles and greetings from the three very lovely ladies that looked after the restaurant, bar, reception and breakfast. You'll have to excuse me for not mentioning the chap that was behind the bar, but having to wait 15 minutes to get served a drink at 2100-2115 after ringing the bell(s) was one thing. Then 20 minutes later when I tried to find someone to deal with another query regarding the room and unable to find him again. I had to give up and sort it out myself. Apologies for the Cellotape on the window in room 5, it was all I could do.
Despite that I have no moans about the place, despite one incident, the rest of the staff made it welcoming and a pleasurable stay.
The hotel is very clam and is off the beaten track. It is 10-15 minutes out of Hereford, but the extra drive into Hereford beats the other places I have stay in previously.

We visited the Pilgrim to celebrate an 86th Birthday last weekend, 31 of us in total. The service received from start to finish was faultless, attentive and friendly. The food was as good as ever.

It is nice to see that a business responds well to feedback as earlier in the month we did not have such an experience. Noticeably, there was plenty of vegetables, condiments on the table and regular check ins from the staff and manager to ensure we were all happy and had drinks.

Just a little confusion, the previous review has moved to Valley Restaurant on my profile rather than where I left it with the Pilgrim Hotel.

Thank you all for a great night!

I stayed here for one night on business. I received a somewhat flustered welcome as the evening meals had started and they were clearly busy, however it was a warm welcome. Staff on arrival were friendly and courteous .
I was in room 4 which is well appointed , nicely decorated and quite sweet.
As it was very hot weather having the windows open didn’t help and there is no air conditioning however a fan was already in the room.
On booking in I was handed a slip asking to complete my breakfast choices for the next morning. How do I know what I want for breakfast the evening before, when I have no experience of the food presentation, quality and portions?!?! I duly filled in the form and handed it back.
The evening meal was salad, you can’t go wrong with that right? I ordered salad nicoise which was in effect a tinned tuna salad with egg, salad leaves, tomato and cucumber. I asked them to leave off olives as I don’t like these, but there was no anchovies, green beans or potato as one would expect for this classic!
The shower was a bit weak but I just about got wet enough and the bed was comfortable with nice bedding.
There is a lack of plug sockets in the room however there was an extension cable for the hairdryer the next morning.
Breakfast was disappointing despite my prior order. I followed the signs to the breakfast room being ‘told’ to take a seat. 10 minutes later and I had to go and find someone as it was like the Marie Celeste.
The lady who ‘attended’ to me appeared a bit put out when I asked for a pot of tea as opposed to this being in a cup from the machine. Her manner was a bit spiky. She brought my cooked food which was quite a sad affair. One bacon rasher of cardboard consistency, one poached egg, one half of a tomato and a few mushrooms. I thought this hotel took pride in the ingredients but this was chucked on a plate and appeared not to have been cooked with much care. Yes this is the foods I ordered the evening before however I thought I may get 2 pieces of bacon and maybe 2 eggs for almost £10 - wrong!! Cost this up and it is negligible with good profits.
Overall it was satisfactory but I was not sad to leave.
