This was a repeat visit, and again was perfect.. The cottage is unique, with unexpected rooms and levels. Our bedroom (Owl) was large, comfortable, tasteful - crisp white sheets, electric blanket, lamps (and everything else) just where you want them to be. Susan and Chris are wonderfully attentive hosts and lovely to chat with - full of interests and enthusiasm. Susan is also a great cook, so we requested supper. Delicious! And with the black mountains nearby, we were all set. Fabulous place. Will be back for sure.
This well hidden B&B is run by Sue and Chris. One could not wish to have better hosts and everything about them and the Rock Cottage was perfect. The best welcome with homemade scones, jam, (homemade), and cream on the patio in the sun while surveying their delightful tranquil garden with birds flying in and out to the bird feeders. We stayed in the "Owl Roost", ensuite bathroom. This was large with a very good shower which was nice and powerful with plenty of hot water at all times. Lovely fluffy large bathroom towels are provided The bedroom was also large with very pleasant views. The King sized bed had a great soft mattress but not too soft. Very comfortable pillows so we had a good nights sleep on all four we were staying. The room was nicely furnished and with soft lighting which made it very cosy. The most outstanding delight was the breakfasts. A full cooked breakfast was cooked by Sue and it was very tasty and a wide selection. After two days it was filling us up too much so we then went for the cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts and prunes and apricots, followed by toast and a selection of homemade jams. In the bedroom there was also a list of local restaurants. We eat in on the first night and Sue had cooked a delightful meal and the best rhubarb crumble I have ever tasted in my life! WE eat ar another 3 restaurants for dinner and they were all good, especially The Crown Inn at Pantygelli and on Sunday night the Old Black Lion in Hay on Wye. All in all a very comfortable and enjoyable stay with perfect hosts in a perfectly run B&B- top marks to Sue and Chris. PS. Also 2 adorable small well behaved dogs!…
Stayed for one night at Rock Cottage and wished we could have stayed longer. Owl’s Roost is a wonderful room with a very comfortable bed and a large bathroom. Our hosts gave us a warm welcome despite our late arrival from Hay and breakfast was delicious. Hope to stay again.
Rock Cottage is like a home away from home! We love it here and this time we visited USK which was a lovely little town about 40 min drive from Newton St Margarets. This part of the world is beautiful in sunshine and in rain believe it or not... Rock Cottage is a real treasure, away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. Do give Sue & Chris a try they are very welcoming and it is such a joy to sit around the breakfast table all together and feel totally relaxed...
