We walked into this bar just to have a drink before a meal further up the road. The security at the front were rude, aggressive and unnecessarily blunt. The security seems to be on a power trip, but their manner was laughable to be honest. They shouted that we needed to leave at 7.30pm, no later. They didn’t need to worry as we had left in ten minutes. The main bar staff were fine. The online ordering is good and drinks arrived quickly. We downed the drinks and left, feeling quite chilled as the men at the table next to us were smoking week! What a hole of a place!

A cool alternative place to stay, drink, chill and get a bite to eat in the heart of Bristol. Not quite the hippy vibe, more raw around the edges than that but friendly enough, The staff are a content tight nit bunch and desk people are very helpful. The bar is a bar, with all kinds as is Bristol. Not quite as live and let live as say Berlin but good enough. Slight pirate vibes which is also, Bristol!

Last Sunday I went down to see Kosheen at The Full Moon with a small group of friends. It was the first time I had been to a gig or even an evening event since lock down started. I was so impressed by the structure, the cleanliness, and all the practices in place to make everyone feel safe, welcome and looked after. This is particularity important to me as I was /am very vulnerable. I had such a lovely evening, everyone was so chilled, it was delightful.

Staff and security did nothing when a customer was targeted with homophobic slurs. Staff and security laughed at customers and treated them like trouble makers when they asked for help and made them leave instead of getting the homophobic abuser to leave. Totally unacceptable behaviour that shows exclusion of LGBTQ acceptance in a place and area that is (usually) very liberal. Very disappointing as I have always enjoyed going to this bar before. Lots of us are totally let down now. Does not make you feel safe, welcome or supported which is the purpose in having security staff! Security staff seem to be homophobic as well by accounts. The bar manager was not interested either in resolving or helping.

Response from Full Moon, General Manager at Full Moon Backpackers Hostel
Responded 1 Oct 2020
Hello, I’m the Operations Director of The Full Moon and Attic bar - hope this message finds you well. I’m deeply saddened by this for many reasons; Firstly, we take all reports of discrimination very seriously. We as a business and as individuals do not tolerate discrimination. Many of us have a personal insight as to how awful it can feel to be at the receiving end of abuse. That said, we obviously wouldn’t want anyone to have to go through this, nor would we ever wish for anyone to leave the establishment feeling the way you have described. We stand against all discrimination. Secondly, if this had been brought to our attention with tact, we would be having a very different discussion and could currently be having an effective, progressive dialogue. However, without trying to discuss this further directly and communicating via reviews and social media, this has been turned into a smear campaign against the venue, potentially affecting the livelihoods of all the people employed here, as well as being a strongly worded and offensive attack on all the staff, the business itself and our morales. The only discussion prior to these messages was on the night - at the time of the incident and later on on the Saturday evening at around 9:30pm. Thirdly - having spoken to the manager on duty, I now know he spent over 20 minutes with a member of your party and tried as best as he could to solve the situation, he prioritised the safety of your group, took your concerns to heart, as well as doing exactly what had been asked of him - spoke with the whole team working that evening to reenforce not only our view against discrimination and homophobia, but also the views expressed by the victim of the abuse. I will also add that as he was on shift and it was closing time, with the new 10pm curfew, can be quite stressful and requires a manager to oversee - if he had spent any more time with your group, he would have potentially been neglecting his other duties, which are vital at this time of new regulations and guidelines. As well as this, our security did the best they could to diffuse the situation and having reviewed the cctv footage, were not heavy handed in their actions. Since these reviews and the Facebook post have been brought to our attention, approximately 20 hours after the post was put up, we have done all we can to investigate this - we have spoken to both the managers on duty that evening and the whole security team as well as reviewed the CCTV footage. We did not want to come to this conversation without all the facts. From our review & conversation with all concerned, I can conclude that my staff and security did everything they could on the night. I must also stress that social distancing must be observed at all times and you must have your mask on if you are not seated. Whilst I personally take a very strong stance against all forms of discrimination, I will not tolerate aggressive and verbal abuse against any members of my staff. Lastly I will add - the offending homophobic person is barred from our premises, should you wish to take this further legally we will provide witness accounts and CCTV footage for this, we will be more than happy to help. We are also confused as to why there should be 6 reviews by you & your friends, when on all our cameras & we have over thirty, there are only four people in your group, of which only three are female. I am more than happy to discuss this with you in person. .
