The Bristol Wing is in the lovingly restored historic old police headquarters. The site dates back to the 13th Century and has a rich history – it has been home to a prison, the Chief Constable, a circus troupe, a group of artists and, throughout lockdown, the street homeless. We have now restored and refreshed our Wing and it is once again a commercial hostel. We have a mix of private, en-suite and dorm rooms with great communal spaces on the ground floor with complimentary tea and coffee available. Our ethical and environmental credentials are second to none. We have a newly refurbed building designed to minimise our negative impact on the world (solar panels, high levels of insulation, double glazed windows etc). The Bristol Wing is owned and managed by YMCA Brunel Group and any profits made are re-invested in supporting young people at risk in our communities. YMCA Brunel Group works with young people through supported housing, youth work, childcare, and health and wellbeing.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hostal was lovely! I only saw one member of staff there all three days I was staying, which was a different one each day, and all three of them were so approachable and patient. Will come again!

Really good hostel in the heart of Bristol city. It was very clean, the room was huge, the staff kept our baggage last day by free and also you can use the kitchen of the hostel with the rest of the people to cook or have breakfast. Un hostel muy bueno en el corazón de Bristol. El hostel esta muy limpio, la habitación era muy grande y el staff guardó nuestras maletas el último día de manera gratuita y también puedes utilizar la cocina comunitaria para cocinarte algo o desayunar.

I have never stayed in a hostel before and was anxious - but I kind of don't want to leave! Everything is super clean, tidy, fresh and well thought out. The whole place has a great vibe, is decorated really well and I love that they have kept the integrity of the buildings history throughout. GREAT shower this morning, beds comfy and cosy, whole place quiet and easy. Love the communal living space - and my breakfast granola was yummy! Would love to come again and bring some friends to enjoy it with!

Very well located, within walking distance of the city centre / restaurant and bars + lots of bus stops to explore a little further. A very welcoming atmosphere with helpful staff and a sunny, well-decorated and functional communal kitchen/lounge area. The help-yourself cereal breakfast and coffee/tea station were appreciated. I had a huge bedroom with wooden floors and a super comfy bed. Easy access to very clean and practical shared toilets/bathrooms. The whole building was renovated very tastefully. Would recommend 100% !

We had a spacious family room and enjoyed the breakfast cereals and the coffee provided. We had a well-made stay here! You can explore the city by foot since the place is located very centrally. Highly recommended!

Well located, clean & welcoming. You don’t expect luxury in a hostel but this was a great experience. My sisters & I were going to a show at The Hippodrome & we like to share a room. We had a room with double bed & bunk beds with an en-suite. There’s nowhere to hang or put away clothes but we were only staying one night & most travelers probably wouldn’t require that anyway. It’s been recently refurbished to a good standard & bathroom was nice & clean. The common area is great for sitting & chilling or making something to eat. There was noise from a local club but earplugs & eye mask are provided so wasn’t an issue.

Hello, Thank you very much for your kind review, we are so glad you enjoyed your experience. We are so proud to consider ourselves a 'boutique' hostel and we are happy to hear you picked up on this during your stay! We are still very new and working on adding more essentials such as wardrobes/dressers in some of our bigger rooms, so we apologise for this inconvenience. Thank you again and we hope to welcome you back soon! Best, The Bristol Wing team

Very cool and quirky place. Staff were friendly and helpful. Beds were surprisingly comfy (they didn’t look it but they were!). Stayed with our 2 children in a family room and whilst the place was great we wouldn’t rebook due to the noise level at night from other guests. Nobody’s fault - the venue lends itself to groups of friends enjoying the nightlife! - but the doors are noisy and were slamming until 4am 🙈

My three bed dorm room was clean and warm. The bunks were three level and sturdy with no wobbling which I hate. The duvet covers and pillow cases are already setup but for some reason you have to put the bed sheet on yourself. I was in the middle bed of a three level bunk and it was difficult to get in and out, there was certainly no way to sit up in bed. There is power for every bed. The room was a good size to share for three. Bathroom numerous and clean. The kitchen reception desk, dining and living room all in one big open plan room. Should be aware that the kitchen is basic with no hob or oven. Breakfast was a nice extra but is only cereal. The location is very convenient, and the building is nice. I like that profit goes towards charity.

Lovely staff. Very helpful and pleasant people. Smart accommodation in the heart of the old city of Bristol. Leather sofas. Parquet flooring and Persian rugs await you. Free breakfast. Real coffee. Huge fridge and microwave and oven. 100 year old lift with oak panelling and brass fittings - That still works! Old cast iron radiators which were hot. Warm showers. Why pay more?
