Stayed for 2 nights in a superior double room . It was a large and bright room with ensuite shower. This is a 2 star hotel and i must admit the room was very nice, basic amenities, so no frills. Was a bit concerned spied a cotton wool bud sitting under the dressing table but prob the cleaner couldnt see it from a certain angle, and the hairdryer provided was very dirty with hairs on it and a yellow sticky substance on it so shut the drawer and didnt use it !!!The breakfast had to be prebooked the night before and was pretty good.It wasnt very hot but invariably never are after it has been served up on a cold plate. The service was very good by the young lady on both mornings , tea was hot and strong and coffee was good too.The location is great for all the Clifton shops and restaurants the suspension bridge is just a short stroll away. We would stay agsin when we visit our son who lives in Clifton. It offers good value for its location.

Stayed for one night on way back up north from Cornwall. My booking confirmation said check in from 2pm but when I arrived at 2.30pm I had to ring a bell for attention and a lady came and said check in was 3pm. However when I showed her my reservation she did allow me to check in. Maybe times have changed due to new measures brought in. Stayed in standard double room in building adjoining main hotel with nice big window overlooking park area.
Room clean and light, a little basic but again probably due to current measures. Shower cubicle a good size but power a little lacking.
It was very quiet with no noise in the evening.
I did notice a previous review about the key card not working and mine didn't work initially on main door but luckily I was given 2 cards and second one did work.
Location in Clifton is great, next to a lovely square where you could sit and people watch and also some good cafes etc in area. Not all open at moment and some restaurants only doing takeaway still but I ate at The Clifton Sausage, see separate review.
Breakfast included next morning with a choice of room service or booking a time slot in restaurant. I ate in restaurant and had the full English which was a generous size and service was quick.
Overall a good choice and more charm than a large chain hotel. Car park is a bonus but did get busy in evening even though hotel itself was fairly quiet so I wouldn't necessarily rely on being able to park there and I wasn't aware of £6 charge until I arrived.
Definitely recommend to others and a decent price for its location.

This two-building hotel combines the look and feel of Victorian grandeur with some far more modern facilities. Unfortunately, that does not include a lift to the various floors, nor air conditioning in the overly heated rooms. However, the windows can be opened fully - and even though you are in the middle of Clifton, the room we were in was quiet enough with the window open.

Breakfast was good and service was good enough, although catching the attention of the staff was a little bit of a problem.

We visited this hotel for an overnight stay. The car park was ample for this time of year and £6 extra per night. The room was clean and comfortable but the shower rail faulty which made it difficult to use.

We were at an evening function returning about 11:50pm. To our surprise we found the main entrance locked, giving a red led to our room cards. It was wet & windy with not much shelter. We tried the bell several times with no feedback if it was working. We then check the room card and there was a night porter number, we rang this but it just went to voicemail. After 30 minutes we were about to leave to try and find alternative Accomodation when two other guests arrived, their passes worked first time.

Inside we tried to find someone, we found a staff member laying tables in the dining room, explained our problem, he went to the front door and confirmed he had the same problem and said to come back to him if it would not open our room. The room lock worked ok.

The next morning we explained our problem, they also checked the card in the lock and got the red Led, a short apology and said they would email us an explanation. No offer of any redress but that was not what we were seeking, just that it would not happen to other guests.

Of course 1 week on and no explanation has arrived. Just take care at this hotel if going out for the evening, check door closing time!

Regular visitors to Bristol, we won’t be returning to this hotel, things go wrong but you need backup systems in place for safety.

My son booked this hotel for the weekend so we could visit my grandson who has just started at the University of Bristol so I have no idea of the cost but I understand it wasn’t cheap
We arrived on Friday afternoon as we had tickets for the Bristol Bears rugby game on the evening We we’re allocated room 231 in the annex a very large room but has seen better decades Threadbare carpet, television that did not work, bathroom shower controls that were unmovable etc. As we were going out that evening it was too late to do anything about a move
However the next morning we voiced our concerns to Taylor the manager and she was most helpful and moved us to a room in the main building which was much better. Breakfast was a bit of a joke with the requirement to select your time and food in advance probably a residue from COVID restrictions And the portions are not large so you might need a brunch later on
Hotel location is good and the area was quiet at night
Of the 2 stars I’ve awarded one is for location and the other is for Taylor the manager who made sure we were happy with the new room
If only we had been allocated it in the first place

I stay in Bristol regularly but this was my first stay at this hotel . It is in a fabulous location and the regular bus outside takes you down to the centre . The receptionist was very helpful in letting me leave a small bag prior to check in . The room was very spacious and immaculately clean . Unfortunately, I had forgot to book for breakfast the night before which was a shame as it looked very good . They could not accommodate me due to social distancing but there are plenty of cafes nearby . The car park is a real asset for the area . My room rate was very good and I look forward to returning soon .

Before the pandemic, I stayed in Bristol regularly for work and have tried a few hotels and Airbnbs around this area.

Victoria Square Hotel was the first place I have stayed since the lockdown, and I'm annoyed I didn't find it sooner. It's much smarter and nicer inside than some of the very shabby local competition. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. I didn't try the breakfast, as they are only doing pre-bookings because of COVID. There is hand-gel at every entrance and staff seemed to be following sensible COVID precautions.

I don't know if it is just that the prices have been pushed down by the pandemic, but this hotel is by far the best value that I have found in the area, and I will definitely be back.

Centrally located, just a few minutes walk from Clifton Village and on a direct bus route into Bristol. Prior to arrival we were provided with all the essential information, including at the time of our stay the reception is only staffed from 3pm until 11pm each day, with a 24 hour contact telephone number provided should we encounter any issues.
Firstly this hotel is a lovely grade 2 listed building therefore it doesn't have a lift. We booked a large double room, which was located on the second floor of the main building, at the rear of the hotel. Our room was well presented and extremely spacious complete with a king size bed and sash windows that we could open. We slept well and appreciated he black out curtains. The hospitality tray was well stocked , including biscuits. The ensuite shower room was clean and well appointed but only hand soap/ hair and body wash was provided.

As we stayed on a room only basis, we cannot comment on the breakfast.

For a four star hotel we did feel that the room lacked the little luxury touches such as a mini fridge, tissues and body lotion. Despite this, we would stay here again.

I booked this hotel as it was close to where i needed to be, I am so glad i did. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, car parking could be an issue but OK during my Easter visit (its chargeable) my room (a single) was compact but perfectly serviceable for a singleton and only overnight stay, Bathroom and shower clean with nice towels, tea and coffee provided, TV and a single bed which was comfortable with decent sheets. If you are a light sleeper you may hear noise from the road below as the windows are single glazed as you would expect from a character property. I will 100% stay again maybe next time i will look at a double. Word of note the stairs to the second floor are steep so bear this in mind if booking for the less mobile.

It was easy to book the room from the hotel website and I had a query about animal allergy which was promptly answered.
Check in was prompt and efficient .July had emailed us beforehand to ask about breakfast options for the following morning.
We found the room to be clean ,spacious, and tidy with a comfortable bed.The full english breakfast was promptly served and of good quality.Location in Clifton was great for the university and walks.
Would come back definitely.

Yes, it costs £7 per day, there are around 20 spaces in situ and if it is full, they rent you a permit to park on street.

Bristol, United Kingdom1 contribution
We have 2 buildings that make up the hotel, in the 2nd building we have 2 Standard Double rooms on the lower ground floor facing the garden which are quiet, rooms 228 and 229. Or in the main building on the 1st floor room 207 which is one of our large doubles is very quiet and a lovely size. I hope this helps, to check availabilty and book please call 01179 739058 to speak to reception Kind regards, Michael
