Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The location of this guest house is its’ one and only selling point!!
We were met at the door by a very pleasant Thai lady, at a prearranged time. We had to pay £100 in cash, and then she took us to our room.
We booked a twin room, with en-suite. The room was relatively clean, but very dark - only one of the lights worked. There were tea/coffee facilities, but unfortunately, the kettle didn’t fit under the tap in the basin, so we had to use the tiny tea cups to fill it.
The beds were comfy enough, but only one pillow on each. The room was very hot during the night, but there was a fan available.
The en-suite was very small, but adequate. It did the job. Towels and soap were provided.
There was a tv in the room, with all the usual free view channels.

So my work booked here very last minute. On entering the smell of food and garlic was intense. Probably because it's next door to a Thai restaurant owned by the same people. .Very noisey due to a little girl playing the piano in the hall and noise from the road. Shared bathroom that had long black hairs in the sink. 1 towel. That has hairs in it. Asked for more coffee and milk. NOPE NOT HAPPENING. room prepared for 1 night so 1 drink only. I'm still in the room as I'm writing this review and I'm on a 12hr shift tomorrow. Then a 3hr drive home. I'm not expecting a good night sleep. But if I feel things improve I will adjust this review as appropriate. Oh forgot to say. I asked for a receipt. Very small piece of paper with just my first name on. Date price paid.which is £60 and no VAT number. Cash only folks.

It started with no breakfast yet they owner also owns a restaurant. The double bed was 2 single pushed together and the shower door had been replaced with a curtain. There were no emergency exit fire instructions and the stairs to the room were extremely steep, I could go on. I had attempted to book the Lamb hotel which I have used for buisness on several occasions without success.

Sleeping on a Saturday evening was difficult due to the local club and noisy clients exiting the premises.

£100 in cash for one night and no receipt, does the HM Revenue and Customs know about this?

Don't be fooled by the name guest house . It is nothing but a glorified bunk house , carpet on the staircase falling to bits ,room dark , gloomy , dusty and dirty .Price a complete rip off do not stay here . Two good points ,the host offered us an early check in to escape the rain and close to the town and cathedral .

The customer service I received at this place merits a 5 star big fail negative.
I booked this believing it to be a B&B. Arrived to find this isn't a hotel or a B & B, its a private door accessed set of unserviced rooms above a Thai restaurant.
Perhaps once it was a sort of pub or hotel in a listed building, but now its just rented out rooms.
On arrival I was told the facilities for my single were shared, with three other rooms.
No sink in the room and torn curtain linings. After a couple of minutes I realized nothing had been said about breakfast.
I went downstairs, spoke to the girl manager who became very defensive insisting they had run the facility for 10 years and dont advertise anywhere that they do breakfast. When I said that I always book a B & B or a hotel, a man, presumably one of the owners, basically lost it with me. He started screaming and shouting at me. He told me to leave, to get out. He was shaking his finger at me, stepping toward me, pushing his face towards mine. Very scary and threatening, absolutely outrageous behavior to a woman travelling on her own. Not exactly in the good customer service hand book. I said I would call the police if he carried on, so he left the hallway, went into a room and locked the door behind him

Not surprisingly, fearing for my safety and in a state of shock, I booked into a friendly local hotel getting a lucky late cancellation.

Since I visited I've read other reviews, that others have thought this a B & B or hotel. So its not just me making the mistake and its something the owners should address.

What I would say is, if you are desperately looking for somewhere out of the wind rain or snow to shelter for the night and every other place in town is fully booked except a room in this place, well I strongly advise you go a little bit further afield

What a disappointment. This was the most expensive accommodation of our 2 weeks travelling in the U.K. £135 for a single night - no breakfast included. There was no other accommodation available.

We checked in to a sign on the wall announcing "Whatever the question is, the answer is No!" Not a friendly start. We'd also been told in an email the previous day that we had to pay cash even though our booking email indicated we could pay with a card. We were told that that information wasn't right even though we showed the booking confirmation. We were also told we had to pay £3 for wifi which is standard elsewhere.

We were told we'd been upgraded to a "suite" and were shown around the corner to a dirty blue door that opened straight into a shabby, sad kitchenette and steep staircase. It was obvious that the place doesn't get cleaned. Every corner and surface displayed ground in dirtiness: stained carpets and tiles, grimy walls, dribble-stained pillowcases and smelly threadbare towels yellowing with age.

The room was so bad we were offered a move to another room that was only marginally better. Neither of these rooms were the ones indicated by the advertisement pictures.

Two slats of the blind in the first room were snapped out, dust covered everything and the pillowcases were stained. The second (better?!) room was decorated in an ageing 1970s style at least 30 years past requiring an update. It was also dusty. Worse, there was a pervasive smell of Thai cooking as the owners seem to run the restaurant downstairs and appear to live and cook in the guesthouse building.

This second room was also grimy with marks on the walls and yellowing towels with holes that reeked of body odour when they were used. We resorted to drip drying to stop making ourselves stink with their use. The only toiletries provided consisted of a supermarket brand shower gel hanging in the shower. It was only one third full and had been clearly topped up with mostly water as it was so thin and didn't lather.

There was one shallow pillow each with one of these pillows comprised of two strange, thin halves inside the threadbare pillowcase.

There is also little insulation from the floor above with footsteps squeaking through the ceiling whenever anyone above us moved around.

As there was no other accommodation we were stuck. Even at half the price it would have been unacceptable. The wifi stopped working while we were using it early evening though it was working again when we got back from dinner.

Worst offering in a long time. Would steer well clear of this place until there's been a change of ownership and an major investment upgrade.

First of all DO NOT BELIEVE ANY RATING ABOVE A 2 STAR...They are 100% False !!!
This is the dirtiest most unhygienic place I have honestly ever attempted to stay at.
it is unclean & not safe to stay in, if you value your health.!!

Just checkout the other posts on here, and its for this reason I won't add to the misery by adding any more pictures.

To top it all, its cash before you see the room only, and if you are not happy - you will rudely be asked to get out.

Amazing that this place is allowed to serve accommodation to the public, somehow I dont think it will go on for much longer.

BE WARNED

TIP Sleep on a park bench if you can't find anywhere else to stay.

OMG this has to be the worst place we have ever stayed in, the room smelt damp, the decor was like something out of the 60's with carpet on the walls, the bed headboard was filthy the pillows so we we're told are cleaned, take a look at our photos & decide for yourself, the young lady manager did offer us another room but on inspection it was as bad as the first room, dated dirty & again the pillows were rank they had months if not years of people's sweaty heads on them & I wasn't about to put my head on that, we asked for our cash back as it was a cash only place but the manager refused & insisted the pillows were clean, spiders & mould in the bathroom well I could go on but it make my flesh crawl there wasn't any chance we would have slept there. Avoid at all cost it's a health & hygiene issue for sure, definitely NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
Thank goodness for booking.com who will be helping us with this.

Never ever stay here. This review page is what trip advisor is all about. It is about warning fellow travellers and letting them know what to expect. The website of this guest house is false. It wrongly portrays this place as a quality guest house. Please do not be taken in by the website. Please read this review and take heed.Never stay here.I was met with a terrible stroppy attitude from the staff. They shouted at me for asking if a room had ensuite and if breakfast was included. They are basic questions travellers need to ask.I certainly did not expect or deserve to be shouted at.I would never go here again.I urge you all to never stay here. There is no ensuite, no breakfast, and certainly no friendliness or manners from staff. It is dirty and bed had crawling insects.I wish I had never set foot in this place. It is not a good or nice or decent place. It does not have any standards or represent value for money. It is not clean, or cosy or comfy or welcoming. It is appalling.I have not insulted anyone, so trip advisor can list this review. If you do not post this review, then you are not letting the truth be heard and you are not doing the very purpose of having your site, as in, you won't be allowing travellers to warn other unsuspecting travellers not to stay in a guest house that does not meet required standards. Therefore, you have to post this review.I hope everyone thinking of staying here, reads this and takes note to never stay here and never suffer the lack of standards.Cleanliness is a basic human right. This guest house is not a bice place to stay.Keep away from it.It is not fit for purpose It is disgusting!!!!!
