Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay by Jan (the Manager) & his team.
The hotel is well situated, has its own very small car park & is also adjacent to a larger car park (charges apply). It’s a quick & easy walk to the shops, other bars, restaurants & down to the river.
Our room was clean & comfortable (although the door base of the shower was a bit grubby).
A kettle, cups, saucers & a selection of teas & coffee is provided in the rooms, as are toiletries in the shower room.
Plenty of hot water at all times & the shower was lovely &powerful.
We ate breakfast in the dining area both mornings, lunch on our 1st day & evening meal on our 2nd day. We also used the bar area in the evenings. Good selection of meals & drinks available & great service at all times.
Although the breakfast menu is quite limited, Jan & the chef were happy to accommodate specific requests. There was a minor problem with one of the breakfasts on the 1st morning which was quickly rectified.
We enjoyed our stay & would definitely stay here again if we revisit Ely.

We stayed for one night in room 6. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. Breakfast was a wide choice and very enjoyable. We were able to park our car there and it was just a short walk into town. We would definitely return.

We had a nights stay in January 22. Our room was small but very comfy with a high standard of decor and lovely finishing touches such as a range of herbal teas in addition to the regular breakfast tea, coffee and hot chocolate. We had seen the pictures of the swimming pool but it’s not on site so we didn’t see this. The only down side was the huge TV - as wide as the bed - and as it was a small room was very dominant!
We ate breakfast - very large portions - avocado and poached eggs very good, full English sausage was a bit disappointing I’d have expected a better quality sausage. Excellent hash browns.
The team we met were all very friendly.

We enjoyed a post Christmas getaway at the very welcoming High Flier, which is very well located in Ely with a large free car park directly behind it. Its own car park is very small but on this occasion we did manage to park in there.

The pub and restaurant areas are very well decorated lending to a very relaxed atmosphere which extents up into the rooms.

The staff were all friendly and very welcoming we arrived early and were pleased to find our room was ready.

Our room (#1) was very comfortable, clean, well appointed with a cosy fresh decor. The smart tv is the biggest we've ever had in any room that we've stayed in . There was a good selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, plenty of sockets , hairdryer, iron , ironing board and a safe. The bathroom was spacious with a lovely powerful shower. There is also a good free wi-fi connection.

Breakfast isn't included in the room rate, but there is a good choice at a reasonable rate, we really enjoyed it as we did the evening meal and the superb Sunday carvery .

We have no hesitation recommending the High Flier and indeed hope to return soon.

We visited the High Flyer for an evening meal. We couldn’t fault the decor of the restaurant, it was lovely. However, the food and service was probably the worst in Ely. We ordered the fish and chips, the fish was dripping with fat and was super soggy, the very very salty (took the skin off the roof of my mouth) steak and ale pie was dump collapsed on a pile of chips with over cooked floppy veg, the manger decided to tell off a member of staff in front of customers making us feel very awkward, lattes were so hot it burnt our tongues then we paid £5 for a bread basket which was obviously the cheapest part baked roll they could find in the local supermarket.

It’s safe to say we won’t be going back!!

This is the 3rd time I have visited the high in the last 2 years which were all terrible experience's I decided to give it another this week because I had heard the food was much better and the staffing problem had improved I was very disappointed first from the sign outside and the website had said carvery was available everyday this is a lie as the menu said when we were seated only on Sundays so I decided to have the vegetarian sausages which when came was a battered mess of mixed carrots ,onions and peas on a mound of mash and green beans not peas as suggested on the menu I sent it back asked for fish and chips when presented had no peas after waiting 10 minutes I was yet again presented with green beans I should also say we all 4 of us had to wait nearly an hour for our food I would suggest stay at home and have a microwave meal it would be hotter , quicker ,cheaper and taste better . The "chefs" were rude to the waitress who was rushed off her feet. poor high flyer very poor !

We stayed for 1 night. The room is small but very comfy. Staff really friendly and the restaurant was great. We had a fabulous meal with large portions and all fresh to order. The breakfasts were to die for and they catered for people with coeliac disease. Definitely be back

We stayed in rooms 3 and 4 which we found to be very clean and comfortable. We slept well in a very comfy bed, these rooms were of an adequate size. We also ate in the restaurant which exceeded expectations. A whole rack of ribs was perfectly cooked and the pies were delicious. It was clear there were a number, if not all courses were homemade and our food was really delicious and served hot.
The staff all greeted us well and were very attentive. Ellie was a great waitress for us and looked after us very well during the evening.
Staying at The High Flyer was a great experience and we will return!

Our room looked OK on first inspection.
Dust around the TV and picture but bathroom was clean.
Tea and coffee in room ok.
We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were meeting family.
The reason for the low rating is to the insect and flea bites I suffered from just a one night stay.
These were not noticed before I left but driving home I discovered bites on my legs, head and chest.
Emailed Hotel got no response
Telephoned Hotel and was told they would look into it but to contact the Booking.com who I had booked through.
The Hotel looks good but is dated and could do with a refurb.
Ely is lovely place to visit but we would not stay at this Hotel again

Great food and brilliant service. We went with 2 young children but it is suitable for all. We will definitely go back and recommend to friends and family. We had a carvery and the children had a children's meal from the menu, it was all delicious and very high quality. The staff were very friendly, great with the kids and even the chef came out for a chat with us which pleased the children.
