We have seldom been to a hotel where the standard of room presentation has been as high as this one. It was immaculate with everything you could possibly need to hand and as a bonus with a well designed and equipped en suite bathroom. The position is perfect for the town and cathedral and is beside the river/canal where it's great fun to watch the boating activity. An excellent pub right next-door offered an very good menu of well cooked pub dishes. The other highlight of our stay was the breakfast which due to Covid was left outside the bedroom door on a tray. It included everything, warm croissant, cold milk, serial, yoghurt, jams etc etc we were extremely impressed by the whole set up and it was obvious that the owner/manager, or whoever, really cares about whether the customer is going to enjoy themselves. We highly recommend this hotel/guest house.

We had the ground floor room on the right of the front door and it was very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was served on a tray at 8:00 am and while I was initially disappointed when I realised it was a continental breakfast served this way I was very impressed with the breakfast itself, a lovely plate of cured meats and cheeses, warm rolls and croissants and cereals with cold fresh milk. Excellent. My only slight criticism would be that in the N of England you often get spa facilities, a restaurant breakfast and bars and sitting rooms for this price. It may be that prices are that much higher in the S of England but I won't give it 5 stars for value for money.

My wife and I stayed at the Riverside Inn for two nights recently to attend a wedding in Ely. It’s name is somewhat misleading, as it is really a B&B.

Let’s start with the good points: When booking, checking in and throughout our short stay the lady with whom I dealt could not have been more helpful. The Inn’s location is its main selling point. From our ground floor bedroom, the water was only feet away and we had good views down the river. It is only a ten-minute walk through the park and Cathedral grounds to the centre of Ely. The bedroom was of adequate size and kept spotlessly clean. The mattress, lightweight duvet and pillows were particularly comfortable. A powerful tower fan and ceiling fan kept air circulating and cool through the night.
The bathroom was a good size and unusually for any hotel or guesthouse, had extensive surfaces on which toiletries could be placed. The shower was powerful but the head was far too low and not adjustable.
During the Covid pandemic, the dining room is closed and breakfast trays are left outside each guest room by 0800. They were well stocked with cereals, fruit, juices, yoghurt, cold meats, sliced cheese, bread rolls, jams etc.

There were a number of areas that were not ideal and some could be improved.

There are only three public parking spaces and one disabled parking space adjacent to the hotel. Otherwise, the nearest pay and display car park is about five minutes walk from the Inn
The bedroom had rather too much large, heavy furniture that did not have a useful function. The large wardrobe had plenty of short length hanging space but there was nowhere to hang long dresses or coats. There were no drawers that could accommodate folded shirts or jumpers, so we both lived out of our suitcases.
In the bathroom the overhead light was in just the wrong position to illuminate faces when shaving or applying makeup. The ventilation in the bathroom was inadequate and after a short shower the mirror was fogged up. A heated towel rail would be an improvement.

As for the décor, it is exactly as shown on the website. I found it rather heavy and over-fussy but that just comes down to personal preference.

So, overall, a good location from which to explore Ely. The guesthouse was adequate in many respects but could be better. If I return to Ely I would probably look elsewhere. For the cost per night, I could do better.

Very charming little guest house by the river. We wanted somewhere to stay to see a show at the "Maltings" and this place did not disappoint. The room was decorated in a quirky, more opulent style but still all very clean and fresh. The beautiful marble bathroom was spotlessly clean with nice amenities and piping hot water.

Breakfast was served in the morning between 0800-0930 by a very polite, helpful and kind lady, and what a great breakfast it was. Perfect scrambled eggs with a lovely herb grilled tomato, a delish sausage and some perfectly done streaky bacon. Plenty of coffee, tea, croissant, toast, cereals, fruits and yogurts available (even had creme caramel option too)

A very good little find at a good price point for the location. will return when next in Ely.

We stayed here for two nights and already are looking forward to a return trip. Our room was gorgeous with first class fittings. The room overlooked the river and it was delightful to eat delicious food whilst relaxing in our room and watching the boats sail past. Ely is very interesting with quirky shops and wonderful cathedral.

This is a lovely Hotel with great views and handy for Ely. The Riverside Inn room I booked had double beds but I needed a room with twin beds so I phoned the hotel to cancel. The booking was in place for about 1 hour and had not even been received from the third party booking agency. Nevertheless, when I spoke to the Managing Director, I was informed that I would be charged £105 cancelation fee. It was 17 days before the booking date. This seemed a bit unfair, overzealous, and probably illegal, particularly in view of what is stated on Cancelling Goods and Services GOV.UK and other webs pages. Apart from common decency, the reasons for a refund are as follows:
The Hotel incurred minimal expense. Cancellation charges must be an estimate of the business’s direct loss
The Booking Contract (T&Cs) are only enforceable if they are reasonable. A £105 charge for a booking that was only held for circa 1 hour is not reasonable.
The owner should try to recover the cost of the cancellation by re letting the room. The Riverside Inn was fully booked on 13/07/2021, so all costs recovered.
I urge you to be very careful dealing with the Riverside Inn, Ely, they will exploit every opportunity to take your money. I can’t imagine that a stay there could be enjoyable if this is the way they treat their clients. I’m not convinced keeping my money is even legal, it feels like highway robbery. Take notice of reviews, for the Riverside Inn that describe similar events.

This is a lovely place to stay. The location on a bend in the river means that the rooms look down the length of the river rather than across it, so you have a great view of the canal boats coming and going. The room was very comfortable, well maintained and spotlessly clean. Flexible self-check-in. Good breakfast. Restaurants and the Cathedral are within walking distance. It's not the cheapest place to stay in Ely, but good value if you want a treat.

We booked this B&B based on location. We were definitely not disappointed (lovely bar about 20 steps away!) Our room was immaculate, unbelievably clean. Lovely comfortable bed (bedding smells amazing). Fabulous shower and bathroom. Initially we thought we would be disappointed with having a continental breakfast but it was delivered to the door and we ate overlooking the river. We didn’t even notice we missed a cooked breakfast. We didn’t see anyone during our stay but it was so easy. The only problem we had is we only booked for 1 night and wished we could have stayed longer. Ely is fabulous I would go back but I would stay here longer. Highly recommended, fantastic stay.

I wish we could stay longer but will definitely remember this beautiful Guest house. This is our river view this morning. Superb room with a delivered continental on a tray outside the room this morning. After some of the horrible paper bag breakfasts some of the big hotels have offered lately (Covid excuses) River View Inn deluged the 5 star of continentals included hot rolls and croissants. Well done. It will be in my book from now.
