This hotel is in an amazing location, directly on the river. The area is quieter than the city centre but close enough to walk into the centre. The pub is excellent and the food was good. The breakfast was overpriced and a little confusing. The room we had was excellent and the staff were all lovely. All in all a great stay and we will stay again and recommend to others.
2nd visit, just as good as last time. Room could do with a little tlc, but very clean. All the staff were very helpful, pleasant, attentive. Breakfast & dinner we had were excellent, plenty of choice.
Awful basic food. Halloumi was thin overdone cold and 5 pieces. £6 Salt and pepper squid was squid deep fried balls 5 small rubbery pieces for £8 not salt and pepper squid st all. The organic bread was dry and nothing organic but white uncut loaf. £7. Probably the worst food I’ve been served in years not as described . Staff lovely but proper rip off
A wonderful riverside setting with both indoor and outdoor tables overlooking the River Dee. We were recommended this place by family who had stayed here. Friendly and efficient table service in a lovely atmosphere both on the outside decking and also the indoor restaurant. I thought it would be a premium rate considering the setting but both food and drink were of good quality and good value . A short walk from the centre of town down the hill towards the river and you’ll come across this welcoming establishment. So much so we returned at least once on each of the four days in Chester, made even better by the weather.
Room was clean but was far too stuffy even with window open. Bed was uncomfortable. Not really up to hotel standard for bed. No plug near mirror so couldn’t see to dry your hair. Car park was very busy but managed to get a spot after waiting for a bit. Other than that it was okay. Staff were great. Super location. Don’t think I would book there again just because of sleep quality really. Didn’t get a good nights sleep there.
Overall an excellent weekend away, The Boathouse is great venue to stay when exploring what Chester has to offer. The Boathouse overall offers great rooms, great food/drink with professional, friendly service. All topped off by the stunning location.
The Boathouse occupies an excellent position on the waterfront and is popular with tourists and residents, as the photographs show. We booked a river view room, which turned out to be river glimpse over the car park, with a JCB digger parked outside our balcony. As this was at the back of the pub, it was noisy with essential staff starting work early, the glass recycling lorry calling first thing, and late night revellers. The room was warm and thought fully furnished with a rowing theme and a stylish bathroom. There were always plenty of clean towels, fresh toiletries and teabags and biscuits, although we always had to request extra milk. However it was not well maintained and needs a thorough overhaul because certain areas were scuffed or grimy, the floor length net curtains looked filthy but I think that was the colour they were supposed to be, and they were torn to shreds at the sides, no exaggeration. The mattress seemed domed, so it was easy to feel one was slipping out of bed during the night. Restaurant breakfast was tasty and well cooked, but arrive towards the end of the timeslot and there will be scant supplies remaining of fruit, yogurt etc. Evening meals were also perfectly acceptable, but quite a lot of unhealthy eating, although the calorie contents are helpfully provided. There was a lack of fresh vegetables and fruit on the menu. As a waterside pub close to the roman walls, the boat trips and the hop on hop off bus, The Boathouse is excellently positioned and the staff were without fail friendly and welcoming.…
Boathouse had an ambience that you rarely get. A great location, great service and clean room, perfect view with a drink or breakfast. Free parking always helps and the local nightlife great for a single traveller
This is a good location if you are visiting Chester for the first time. Right by the river adjacent to the oldest Rowing clubs in the country. You can park the car and walk into the city. The accommodation is modern and stylish at the rear of the car park. The Boathouse is full of character and you can watch the rowing whilst having breakfast. Do not let an unnamed guest spoil your nights sleep by setting off the smoke alarm the noise is disturbing to say the least
Just came from boat house. First time there and John made it a great experience top of the line stuff. John kept us drinking attended to us fairly and my daughter! We will be back no doubt. Highly Recommend. And this may not seem fair but we will only sit with John.
