Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We chose the CoB as our first retreat to visit family follow lockdown and additional restrictions placed on Wales. Having visited a few years ago at a family wedding it was familiar surroundings. I was amazed by the measures in place to protect clients and staff. Communication after booking was excellent invites to dining, weather forecasts, measures in place during the pandemic I.e. removal of toiletries in the rooms. Our room, Cockerel, was so much bigger than expected and a lovely shower bathroom, clean and very nicely presented. Ample parking well kept surroundings. Lovely walks nearby we ventured to Stratton Mill and beyond which was lovely. I did have some concerns, the room temperature 26 degrees way too high despite attempts to lower and instructions by receptionist and lastly visited and adjusted by management but despite these efforts it remained too hot which was frustrating. Also the bathroom has an automatic light upon entry therefore night time toilet visits illuminating the whole room waking all. Lastly, no WiFi connection despite several attempts on three devices not recognising my email address or any address. Reception provided Internal WiFi code but the same outcome. Staff were all most friendly and the breakfasts were excellent well cooked fresh produce thank you.

My wife and I stayed here for the valentines weekend and both really enjoyed it! The location is perfect. Nice and quiet and only a short drive into Wrexham or a little further into Chester. Check in was quick and easy and once in our room we were both really impressed. Very comfortable with a large, unique bed made of thick timber and a good comfy matress. A wall mounted T.V, complimentary tea/coffee/ biscuits. Storage was good and the bathroom large with a jacuzzi style bath. Breakfast was served in the bar/restaurant where you had a choice from the menu. The cooked breakfast was very good and this is included in the price. All in all this is a great place to stay for a night or two, even though we stayed here in February and the weather was terrible, we didn't need to venture out any where as we simply chilled out in the pubs comfortable surroundings. We enjoyed drinks in the bar and had meals on both nights of our stay and I would happily recommend to anyone.

We had a very enjoyable overnight stay as part of the Sunday Date and Dine promotion. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with nice touches such as white chocolate and strawberry cookies and ground coffee supplied by a local coffee roasters. We ate in the restaurant and particularly enjoyed the sirloin steaks and nutella cheesecake. Service throughout was warm and friendly. Special thanks to Dan at the bar who offered lots of helpful tips about wines and beer, this was much appreciated. We hope to return for another stay soon.

Chose this venu & booked through booking.com for a one night stay based on location & reviews. We were booked in at Carden Spa for my husband's 40th birthday surprise & it was only a 2min drive away. Rooms were very well decorated, clean & comfortable. I messaged the hotel prior to our visit & requested the swans room, they emailed me back to which my request was met. We also made a reservation for food at 9pm I have a gluten & milk intolerance which they catered to my needs. I had steak my husband had a steak burger, food was cooked how we requested it to be. The only downside to our visit was breakfast, what I had was cooked beautifully but I wanted a full English but was unable to have sausages or hash browns as neither was gluten free. All staff were friendly & worked hard. Thank you for a wonderful staff, would recommend & return.

I write this review totally gutted that we have had to come home early! We had booked into stay 26-28th November. We are both NHS staff and it was our wedding anniversary so was looking forward to a well deserved break.
On arrival the staff were very friendly and we had explained that we hadn’t been able to book a table as the restaurant was full but the reception staff sorted that out and booked us in for that evening. The restaurant was beautiful and so was the food. Well priced and top quality. Our room was stunning, king size bed, power short, underfloor heating flat screen TVs and freebies, tea and coffee making facilities. As we left to go to our room after our meal, unfortunately storm Armen hit and we were left without power and surrounded by 80-100 mph winds. The staff supplied us with candles and drinks for our room. The weather was terrible but we were looked after by staff. This morning unfortunately the power hadn’t been restored so there was still no heating, lighting and food and drink facilities, so between the manager and ourselves decided that it was best to travel home as we are from the Midlands and it was thick with snow there from the storm. Even though this happened we can’t thank the staff enough, we will return next year and will look forward to it very much. A big thank you again to the make staff member on reception who looked after us.

Lovely welcome, bedroom spacious, warm, modern, lovely local coffee in room, and biscuits. Fabulous chemical free soap in bathroom. Very comfortable king size bed. Wonderful night sleep, very quiet.
Evening meal was of high quality with local produce used, staff were very friendly and great drinks on offer at reasonable prices.
Fab breakfast, hot tea and coffee.
On settling up the bill, we notice all tips are shared equally with staff and they don't charge service charge.
Highly recommend - we'll be back.

Nice extended country pub .. modern restaurant and external but adjacent bedroom block providing comfortable accommodation.

Restaurant fare was good and staff friendly and helpful.

Hotel is “in the middle of nowhere” so transport is recommended but it is good value for money and provides a nice base for exploring the area.

Visiting friend for a bit of pre Xmas fun and so glad we decided to stay over, the room was so lovely and clean , the shower I wanted to take home , the pressure was the best iv ever experienced before at a hotel.

Bed was exactly how I like it nice and firm.

Nice little touches like little cookies to enjoy with our late night cup of tea.

Breakfast in the morning was spot on with so much to choose from was tempted by the eggs benedict Royal but opted for the full English and wow ...... now that's a breakfast.

All in all we had an amazing night with our friends Tim and Jane snd her lovely Mam Anne.

The Band was Amazing definitely best I have seen, The Bright Lights.

Everything was spot on and everyone in the team went above and beyond from the time of checking in until we sadly had to leave.

Thanks again team Barton and we hope you all have a lovely Christmas.

See you all again hopefully soon.

The rooms here are really super. A lot more cosier and personal than most budget hotel rooms. Well worth the price I think. Comfy beds, great size. The bathroom is beautiful, lovely bath and shower. Got brilliant WiFi and tv in the room. Super cute with little unique touches that make your stay very memorable. Plus an amazing breakfast that is included. A wide choice of foods for breakfast which is brilliant. Amazing!
Will definitely be staying here again in the future.

Warm and comfy room, with plenty of space and good facilities too. We loved the view out the back looking west, and the tray of goodies was a high quality selection. The lighting and mirrors were in the right places too! It was quiet too, although the other rooms near ours were taken too.
Just a note that in our deluxe king room the bed wasn't a king-size bed - it was 2 x singles pushed together, grrr the gap! And there was a tiredness to the bathroom units.
Breakfast was perfect, a lovely selection to choose from and not too much! And more smiley staff too, thank you.
