Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great rooms, large beds, and really comfortable. Location great. (The middle of the high street) plenty of parking nearby. On-suite fine, but shower more of a mist than anything invigorating. Rooms were quite providing you kept the windows shut.

We had a triple room booked and the 3rd bed was a Z bed which was basically on the floor, paper thin mattress and zero spring support, certainly not worth my share of the room cost which was £130, hotel itself was nice and clean and staff was lovely but I wouldn’t return again with a group of friends due to the bed situation

We recently stayed in Chester for our daughter's graduation. We would normally stay away from town centre locations to avoid the late night noise and commotion but decided to try The Coach House as it was so close to the Cathedral ( 50m away). We were not disappointed. The rooms were spotless and the beds extremely comfortable. The staff were lovely and very accommodating, food was excellent and well priced. Yes, the hotel has a pub/ restaurant downstairs but it's quiet and well run with a small snug off to one side. We stayed over Guy Fawkes / graduation week when the town centre was busy but we were not disturbed. Very quiet with easy access to the shops, cafes and local attractions. Highly recommended for short stays. MD

Self described as offering luxury rooms, we thought it was a dump. Dirty looking charcoal gray carpeting, chipped paint, flat worn out pillows, sheets too small to fit the mattress (which was aged and sagging), tired furniture, etc. Couldn’t wait to leave! This place was in serious need of investment. Too bad because location is terrific and size of our room and bathroom was very generous.

Stayed here for 1 night on 19.8.23 after a day out at Chester Zoo. The location is perfect right in the middle of the town and surrounded by pubs and bars, so if you're up for a night out on the town, then you're in the right place! No parking but there is a car park about a 2 minute walk away on Hunter Street, which is £13.50 overnight. We had dinner in the restaurant, and although it was lovely, it was quite pricey, 2 mains and 2 soft drinks were £54. They only had 1 vegetarian option, which was a bit surprising. The room was gorgeous, very spacious, and the bed was comfy. We had a great night's sleep. The only letdown really was that the shower had no power, and the shower head was filthy and full of rust and limescale, so that definitely needs looking at and replacing. However, we said we would definitely stay again and we would recommend it to people visiting the area. All the staff we met were very friendly.

Formerly the Coach & Horses, I knew years ago. Great location right in centre of town, next to the Market Square and Town Hall. And couple of mins walk from Chester Cathedral. The room was a good size, very clean, decent bathroom with toiletries and proper sized bath towel. Coffee and tea making facilities and small fridge in room. Breakfast was fine. Staff all very pleasant. As others have pointed out, Hunter St car park is couple of mins away, overpriced and tight parking. It's worthwhile exploring other online options a bit further away if you can, and asking the Coach House too. Walking through the Kale Yards, and through Abbey Square behind the Cathedral gives more parking options. Stayed a couple of nights. Have already recommended place to my niece. I would definitely stay here again.
