Despite its praised central location in Chester, the Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel struggles to impress guests overall. The value of the stay comes under fire, with many visitors feeling the rooms are overpriced and facilities fall short of expectations. While the service is noted for its friendliness, issues with disorganization and slow response times are a recurring theme.
Cleanliness is another concern, with calls for better maintenance. Additionally, the atmosphere is compromised by dated decor and noise from a nearby nightclub, leaving guests longing for improvement.

Detailed Reviews
Lots of comments re the Disco located by a third party in the basement of the Hotel has done little to help its reputation combine that with a lack of a restaurant at the moment and it probably explains why it felt quite. We stopped in room 220 the Rose Suite the premier room. Check in was smooth and off we went upstairs to find our room. Upon entering we had a large sitting room with a pair of settees 42” LGTV dining table 2x chairs desk and chair all nicely presented. Next the bedroom with 6ft bed which was comfortable easy chair in the corner and some pine bedroom furniture which was of poor quality and looked a little out of place for me. We had fluffy bathrobes in the wardrobe on the shelf which was very dusty hence we didn’t wear them. The bathroom needs upgrading for a room which can cost south of £200 per night it’s was clean but very uninspiring. The room was cleaned to a reasonable standard but the lack of milk on the tea tray was annoying when the cleaners had put biscuits on the tray but had not replenished the milk. Water in the room was lacking which we had to go downstairs to ask for as they hadn’t got any bottled water we were given a bottle of filtered water. Breakfast was good can recommend the porridge bread for toast was nice and fresh but tea bags could have been of better quality for me a little weak despite leaving to mash for a long time. The staff in the breakfast room and reception were always polite and friendly and our room did not suffer any noise from the “Dreaded Disco”. Overall a pleasant stay would go back but would like to see some improvements to get a 5 star rating from me.

Spent the night in an executive room following a night out in Chester. Room was clean and comfy although a little tired in places. Lots of space and a huge comfortable bed, completely adequate for our needs. On arrival we were told our prepaid room rate included breakfast but on checkout were told that it did not! They did however waiver any charge when we explained. Good choice of hot and cold breakfast items cooked to order.
Staff pleasant and helpful. Only one issue was the amount of noise we’ll into the early hours from outside the hotel has the two very close nightclubs emptied out continuing to 4am. If you are a light sleeper it’s not for you unless rooms elsewhere in the hotel are less vulnerable our room overlooked the main entrance.

Thank you for your feedback. Lots of our guests comment on how comfortable our beds are and on our team who work hard to ensure that guests have an enjoyable experience with us. I am sorry about the mix up regarding your breakfast and pleased that it was sorted for you. We do encounter issues with noise due to other businesses surrounding the hotel. We are working with the authorities to agree a solution to this. Unfortunately it is out of our control at this time. We do hope to see you again in the future. Kind Regards John Rothwell

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in the run up to the May bank holiday weekend. The hotel has good points and bad ones. The hotel is in an excellent location, situated in the middle of Chester's shopping area, surrounded by restaurants and 5 mins walk from the river. We parked our car in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre for £10 per 24 hour period. I had booked a executive king bed, but was given a double room on arrival. I had to go back to reception to correct this, and the receptionist gave us the room we originally booked. Why she didn't give us this room in the first place, I shall never know. The room was big with a double sofa, king size bed and extras like dressing gowns. As the room was on the top floor, it got very warm but the air conditioning didn't work. The hotel must have known about this as there was a fan in the wardrobe which we pretty much had to leave on all the time whilst in the room as the window wouldn't open either. The bathroom was dated (think 80s), we found dust on the TV and elsewhere, the carpet looked like it needs replacing and there was a brown stain on the duvet cover. The room wasn't serviced whilst during our stay due to covid, but staff provided us with extra towels, tea and toiletries when needed.
Breakfast was okay. We had to order via the waitress due to covid, and we didn't get what we ordered on either of the 2 days. Breakfast was small and much less than what I would have normally had, but I didn't like to ask for more in case it came across in a negative light. The second day was a shambles. My wife's porridge never arrived, we had to repeatedly had to ask for juice and toast, people were queuing out of the door waiting to be seated. In the current climate, they should have have allocated times for breakfast. The restaurant was in meltdown from what I observed.
The question is would I stay here again. Probably not. It's not a 4 star hotel. It's more 3 stars in my opinion. It needs refurbishing and the breakfast needs sorting

We last stayed here about 6 years ago and it had the feel of a 4 star hotel then, definitely not the case now. Room was very dated, dirty blinds, rattling windows, tatty bathroom (cheap flimsy plastic toilet seat etc). The 'double bed' was just 2 singles pushed together so not very comfortable and the bed was not made up for our 2nd night.
Not sure the hotel even has a restaurant anymore and whole hotel just felt like budget accommodation. Breakfast was average, service very slow and unorganised though and eggs (scrambled and poached) were raw on both mornings.
It is in a good location but not value for money, the newer Travelodge a few minuted walk away is probably a more luxurious these days.

My son had booked this for my wife and I for a weekend stay and had paid for an executive suite on the third floor. This was due to historic reports of noise levels and he assumed that the room would be hopefully out of range. Whilst my wife and I had expected some degree of noise we were were not prepared for the decibel level emanating from the nightclub next door(which was also situated underneath the hotel). This went on until 5am the following morning and was repeated the night after. We had notified staff of this on the Saturday and were advised that we could be moved to the second floor with an inferior room. This we declined. As the building is listed the windows (secondary double-glazed) were inadequate and very difficult to try and shut. We had expected some degree of noise but this level was quite frankly unacceptable. The fact that there is an ongoing Court case between the nightclub and the hotel(as advised by the housekeeping manager on the Sunday) tells you that the hotel is aware of the situation and is trying to do something about it, but how successful this will be remains to be seen.We were advised by the housekeeping manager that a full refund should not be a problem but at this moment in time the third party booking agency have offered £23 in credit, which we are currently disputing. If you want even the slightest chance of sleep you need to avoid this establishment. To further rub salt into the wounds our breakfast was wrong on both days

Location is excellent and parking was a reasonable price at a nearby shopping centre car park.
The staff on reception were pleasant and helpful and we were checked in an hour early than expected.
Our double room was small dark and old. One small window facing a brick wall. The shower pressure was just a trickle, however the towels were large and of good quality. The bed was comfy and the bed linen clean and good quality.
The breakfast was very disappointing, it was help yourself buffet style, no glasses for the juices, no butter for the toast, by the time they refilled the butter dish the toast was cold. Every item of the cooked breakfast was less than Luke warm and served on cold plates so went to stone cold by the time you took it to your table.
Over all I would say it was a 3* hotel at 4* prices. If its location you are after, it is great but I won't go back, there are much better quality hotels out there.

We booked the room a year in advance as we thought it was a decent price at £125.
We arrived to be given a nice room, it was clean and in a very quiet part of the hotel as it was a fair walk from reception but we where glad for this.
We dident use the hotel other than just to sleep really.
The reception staff where perlite especially the night shift gentleman, who was very polite and helpful.
I really don’t know how they don’t have security on the door on new years eve and literally a night club door sitting on the hotels door.
We had others not so fortunate staying at the hotel, as they where in the front and could here all the nois all night to 5am.
I think we where lucky this time and this hotel would be ok in the week but not busy weekends and if you want sleep.
Our experience was ok to be fair though.

The whole hotel is spotlessly clean and some of the staff cannot be faulted. On checking in the lady at front desk was extremely helpful and very freindly, however there wasn't anything on the website saying the restaurant was closed so I was surprised to find we were told breakfast would be in the room which was fine by us, if you get what you order, but we didn't. We chose the overnight oats, what we actually hot was a spoonful of dried oats with a bit of cold water in a tub, probably poured in in the morning, they were totally inedible, and definitely not overnight oats, we then chose granola the next day, what we got was a tub of yoghurt & frozen fruit, no granola at all and there was no spoons. We chose tea but got coffee, we then got a freezing cold bacon barm it was that cold the butter hadn't melted, when I spoke to reception I received another stone cold barm. Both days the breakfast was inedible so we ended up paying extra to go to a cafe both days. Which is such a shame as the breakfast in a hotel is something to look forward to. The phone in the room didn't work, so I had to go down to reception, I waited a good 5 minutes as it was unmanned, suddenly I heard someone blowing their nose really loud several times then a toilet flushing from the disabled toilet, the door opened and out came a member of staff from reception, coughing into his hands, this made me feel quite sick and I walked away, i dont think he even noticed me, but not once did he clean his hands.
There was also things advertised in the room that we didn't get, such as a bottle of water, bathrobes, there wasn't even any teabags or milk to make a cup of tea. We paid extra for an executive room but other than a larger bed this was no difference to the standard. I understand there will be restrictions due to Covid, but this needs to be told on booking at the very least, as we didn't get what we thought we had booked.
However compliments to the gentleman serving at the bar, he was very friendly and did a really good job and also the lady on reception, they both deserve a commendation for their hard work and were both very professional.
I'm sure these things could easily be rectified, it was just a little disappointing, but I will stay again, but only whilst the next door nightclub currently closes at 10pm, as I would imagine it would be quite noisy otherwise. But it's a perfect location in the middle of Chester near to everything. I have emailed Macdonald hotels twice after getting back 2 weeks ago, but not even had a reply.

We stayed here for for 2 nights, the rooms was dingy, dark and very hot. Luckily we found a fan in the cupboard only to turn the fan on and get a shower of dust all over the room. The smoke alarm went off 3 times both mornings, getting louder and longer each time almost as though it was done deliberate as a wake up call. Rooms were dirty and the carpets full of stains. Staff at breakfast were rude and everything seemed like a big ask but over all breakfast was nice and not greasy. Definitely not worth the money and far from a 4* hotel !!

Had an overnight stay here ideal location minutes walk from everything you need. We was in room 119 now if you are of a large frame there is no way you can fit into the bathroom the toilet is right in the corner and about a 30cm gap from sink to bath therefore you have to squeeze past. Breakfast was delivered to the room in a cardboard box partners was just warm I had ham and cheese omelette which was delicious. Tea and coffee taken out of the rooms but staff are more than willing to provide it for you. The phones were disconnected in all rooms so if you become unwell in the night then your unable to directly contact reception. The lady on reception desk was lovely and helpful always sounded cheerful. Personally wouldn’t stay here again due to the bathroom size. Rooms are average bed was comfortable.

My room did not specify 'boutique' room in description, so whether this is the same 'grading' of room I had I am not sure!
Or whether this is just their 'spin' on making the rooms more appealing ?!
Car parking in the Grosvenor shopping centre, quite a walk with luggage.
