Detailed Reviews
My friend and I stayed overnight on a recent shopping trip. This new concept is quirky and ideal for short stays. The room was small but clean and practical no wardrobe space or draws but a clothes rail suspended from the ceiling and rather unique pouches on a wire walled storage unit to store hairbrushes toiletries etc again tasteful and ideal for overnight stays. It is not somewhere I would stay for more than a long weekend, and i dont think it is designed for that. The lobby/reception and bar is all one space a large area with plenty of seating, it is also where breakfast is served, the continental breakfast is nice with good choice, but the hot food is served right by the entrance to the lift to access the hotel rooms, that doesn’t work and I wasn’t impressed with the hot food, or the method of laying the breakfast out it should be altogether and not where those entering or leaving the rooms obstruct you x that should be looked at , the toaster was on the bar and all other food in another area x not ideal. There is another relaxing area with games on the first floor, a place to iron, it works but the breakfast layout should be addressed. The staff were both friendly and helpful, overall a nice place to stay for a short break.

This was very pricey for the style of place and the facilities offered. The foyer is the bar/nightclub with music loud enough to prevent you hearing the staff easily. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times and worked hard.
This purports to being a 4 star place but there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms! None! Hot drinks can be made in the foyer and carried up to rooms if you want. Really?! The bedroom was very clean and comfortable although the loo paper was cheap rubbish and the hair and body wash were nailed to the wall like a youth hostel. In fact it was like a posh youth hostel but very expensive. I wouldn't go again as it was very unsuitable for families and indeed anyone over 25, not on a hen night.

my friend and i decided we would have a weekend away and picked this hotel for its location right next to the canal and not far from the station.
hotel very modern and quirky check in was easy. we had a room on the second floor. first impression hotel very clean and modern.
the room was very small and had 2 single beds that didnt have a gap between them. the beds themselves were awlful. i think the worst i have slept in. you had one pillow which was very flat the mattress had a dip in it that you sank into and you were frightened to turn over incase you fell out. bathroom had very nice shower very hot and products provided. hairdryer provided. no phone in room or kettle.
but you could use the coffee machine downstairs and take to your room which wasnt very hot and ran out of milk and hot chocolate.
breakfast wasnt included in our rate but it was £10 which wasnt worth it as we dont eat that much just yogurt and juice but there was a huge waitrose next door so we went there.
their cafe wasnt doing hot meals but we bought yog and juice in shop and went back to our room.
we found that our room was very noisy it faced waitrose and people were sitting out side shouting to each other.
the location of the hotel was excellent for walking distance around chester and there were resturants near by on the canal path.
as this i think is a new hotel there are somethings that need improvement

Just returned from a two night stay at the Moxy. Never leave bad reviews but was so diappointed and the list kept growing. Rooms were nice, very clean and everything you would need for a couple of days away. Not enough parking for the size of the hotel but this was not a problem as we parked at the railway carpark about 10 mins walk away and it was £8 a day so not much different. The rooms were extremely hot unable to open the window due to storm Arwen who decided to crash our weekend and could not put the air conditioning on as it rattled like an old train. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Now for the downside. Needed more pillows as the ones on the beds are so soft they disappear to nothing to be told no more available in the hotel. Got talking to one of the cleaning ladies who managed to find us two for the second night. The seating downstairs although very modern is very unpractical especially if you are trying to eat breakfast. Went for breakfast Saturday morning, no milk for cereal, 20 min wait for mugs and the coffee machine to be filled with milk, no bread on the counter for toast. Gave up waiting for hot food after 20 mins so had a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee in a small throw away cup. There was only one crew member on duty and she was unfortunately getting it in the ear by everyone. The manager was later seen cleaning down tables and removing dirty dishes. Sunday morning it was even worse as the hotel was obviously fuller. Again one person was left to man the desk, bar area and book people in and out and take all the complaints from everyone to the lack of food available. We had woken up to no hot water and had cold showers (know this was not just our room as spent another 20 mins in the coffee machine queue talking to a lot of disruntled customers). No milk for cereal, no mugs, no milk in the coffee machine, no hot food, no bread to make toast with, no pastries. The poor girl who was fetching the food from the kitchen was bombarded with requests from everyone, I felt extemely sorry for her. After 20 mins we got fed up of trying to get anything for breakfast put on our coats and went out!! Not what you expenct for £40 of breakfasts over two days. Very disappointed to say the least.

I simply can’t understand the negative reviews for this hotel! I am very hard to please when it comes to hotels …..and we have stayed at many over the years....but we have found this Moxy exceptionally good! Much better than we expected having walked passed it many times whilst visiting the nearby Waitrose supermarket.
The reception staff, in fact ALL the staff, have been amazing; friendly, helpful and so understanding of our in-between-houses situation. As soon as one enters the very contemporary spacious foyer the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming helped by a complementary cocktail to help the travel weariness.
The continental breakfasts, with cereals, fruit, croissants, cheese and ham are great. Hot sausages, bean or eggs also offered. The Franke coffee machine makes a very good cup….and my first morning coffee is extremely important to me!
Food is available most of the time ……try the vegan spinach and felafel burger!
The bedrooms are not huge but are great….large comfortable bed; small, compact but more than adequate shower/loo with lots of fresh towels and toiletries; quirky wall frames for hanging belongings and clothes; loads of useful sockets and ports. Everything works in these rooms…..even the useful night lights which come on for nighttime loo visits. I suppose the windows could open a bit wider for fresh air but the heating/air conditioning works well.
There’s a super quirky mezzanine floor for quiet relaxation or tables with sockets for desk work.
The location by the Shropshire Union Canal is perfect for quick and easy walkable access into town.
Due to a complicated conveyancing nightmare we’ve been staying here for almost 4 weeks and I can’t praise it highly enough. We intend to recommend it to any future guests or family should we be unable to accommodate them in our apartment.
A huge big ‘Thank You’ to all the staff.

+1
After arriving in Chester, our original hotel was cancelled just before check in. £409 later, we were booked into the only available hotel for our 3 night stay, which was The Moxy Chester.
Upon arrival the hotel looked unique and modern. We headed up our room which was very basic and lacked facilities you’d expect for a £409 stay. There was no storage, the bathroom was tiny and there was no tea/coffee facilities in the room either. We requested towels from a young girl behind reception, we never got them. We had to directly ask the maid walking by. Our room was not cleaned the entire stay, so our bin was overflowing, I presume that’s why the corridor resembled a rubbish dump as people have no option but to leave takeaway boxes etc outside their room door.
Overall our stay was pleasant, but no way worth the money and we wouldn’t rush back in a hurry.
On check out we asked for our invoice for our stay and was promised again by the young girl (who we had asked for clean towels) that the invoice would be sent immediately upon check out via email. This didn’t happen. The hotel had also charged us twice for our stay and it took many daily phone calls to rectify this and to finally receive our invoice. We received our invoice a week later!
It is a nice hotel but poor customer service and lack of staff. Definitely missing the finishing touches required to get customers to return.

We really enjoyed our stay. The lady at the front desk was really helpful. We had been given a twin room instead of a double and this was solved really quickly. The rooms are spacious and clean. We had a great time, thank you Moxy!
The only problem we had was with the shower. We couldn't adjust the shower head so that it faced downwards towards the floor. Instead it was stuck facing up which meant that water went everywhere in the bathroom, even when the shower curtain was closed. There was a seat in the shower (this room was for people with disabilities) and if you were to sit on the seat, the shower water would miss you completely which seems to defeat the point.

This hotel had everything, even the things I never expect but always hope for.
Room was really stylish and really comfortable with excellent lighting (which is actually very underatted, I've been to so many hotels where its either way too bright or way to dark.
You can connect your device to the tv which is brilliant because every other hotel I've been too all you have is rubbish freeview. I was able to watch whatever I wanted on my tablet on the big screen which made me very happy.
another very underatted thing but something that can absolutelty make my day is they have shampoo and conditioner, not the rubbish shampoo conditioner blended together but a separate conditioner and shampoo which is actually good.
I'd seen some reviews about parking before I booked which made me worry and I was actually really anxious about the parking situation. I honestly don't know why anyones moaned about it. the hotel itself has parking, I'll admit there was no spaces available when i arrived but I did arrive at about 8:30pm. I parked across the road at waitrose and took my bags in. the receptionist gave me the post code for alternative parking which cost £8.50 which is actually pretty reasonable (I've had to pay closer to £20 at other places) and the car park was only five minutes away!
would 100% stay again. Other positive points its really close to cheshire oaks, chester city centre, m and s, sainsburys and massive waitrose within 2 minutes walking distance.

Stayed here whilst working in Chester, quirky hotel, pleasant rooms which are serviced daily with fresh towels also, didn’t eat here breakfast a little expensive at £15.
Rooms pretty modern, comfy bed, good shower.
The hotel was full due to the Golf Open Championship been played close bye, so parking was difficult.
One thing that really annoyed me though, Sunday night was £67, Wednesday night was £168 and Thursday £172. I know this is due to the golf, but total rip off, which is something I don’t like so won’t be going back in the near future.

Had a lovely weekend just gone in chester and the hotel was really nice and clean. But varying 1 - 2 days of getting home 4 of our group booking have had the money taken from our accounts AGAIN. I'm down £233, rang this morning to sort it out and no managers around till Wednesday! Hmm a large hotel setting with no sort of manager around. The rooms were left spotless with nearly all of us us stripping the bedding for them also. Really stressful if Im honest it's half term and not everyone can afford to wait around days for refunds of such large amounts of money. Just a warning to others please check your bank accounts after checking out. Let's hope tomorrow a manager resolves this issue ASAP.
