We picked Bawn Lodge for a 2 night city break as it was offering free cancellations up until 2 days prior to travel and with the current covid-19 conditions I didn't want to be committed to travelling if it wasn't safe.
Having said that, I am please I picked Bawn Lodge. The staff were fantastic. I phoned prior to travel to see if I needed to take anything additional and they took the time to explain all of the new measures they had put into place which was very reassuring. The staff were also great throughout our stay. They even took the time to fetch milk for me as I am lactose and soya intolerant, bringing two cartons, one for the room and one for breakfast.
Breakfast was table service only, but you booked a time slot to ensure that not everybody came down at the same time, allowing staff to manage the numbers in breakfast at a time. There was plenty of choice and food was good.
The room wasn't cleaned during our stay as we were only staying two nights and this prevented risk to staff and guests by having staff enter the room. However on our return from our day out, a bag was left outside the room with fresh towels and replacement tea and coffee ensuring that each room was well supplied with everything they may need.
I was apprehensive about staying away with the current conditions, however I can say that Bawn Lodge met all of my requirements, was fabulous value for money and put my mind at ease. I would definitely recommended the Bawn Lodge to anyone looking for a base to explore Chester from. Thank you for making it a great break.

Decided to book a 2 night stay with my husband and son for a birthday treat from the 27th Dec. Upon arrival we were shown to our rooms. Our son who was in a twin on the ground floor and me and my husband were in room 12 facing the back. My husband and son decided to go out for some fresh air as my son had a headache and left me to unpack. About 10/15 minutes later a key was put into our door and in walked a man and woman!! I don't know who was more shocked me or this man but it could have been quite embarrassing to say the least!! I have no idea what happened there!! Stayed in and had a evening meal with drinks on the 1st night which was lovely. Breakfast was average, the second morning me and my husband decided to go for the poached egg which was more like hard boiled. Both rooms were a good size with a comfy bed but thought the room was quite dark and no light over the mirror. Our bathroom was very narrow, again without any light over the mirror, and we both said the rainfall shower head was too large for the shower so unable to move away whilst putting shampoo or body wash on. Could do with putting the TV on a movable bracket as we both had a stiff neck watching tv. When drying my hair the sachets of coffee, milk etc were getting knocked off so maybe put them onto the other side or even in a deeper bowl. All in all a very enjoyable Birthday treat!!

We really liked the location and the ambiance of the Lodge. It's close to Hoole which is a vibrant, independent suburb worth visiting, about 15 - 20 minutes walk from Chester.

I'm sure Bawn Lodge caters very well for families but I don't think there were any children the weekend we stayed and it felt like a very "grown up space". There's a terrace with outdoor heating and even though it's close to a main road, it's got a cosy feel and it's not too noisy. It felt a bit like being in a resort (if you like that sort of thing - and sometimes we do!) because, in theory, you could spend your time in the Lodge and Hoole without going into Chester - but, obviously, Chester is a great place to visit and this is a great base from which you can do lots of exploring.

The decor is fresh modern with some traditional touches making the most of a grand Edwardian building (although there were a few issues keeping the floor adjacent to the bar clean). Although our room on the "busy" side of the hotel with the bar below and the main road not far away, we were not disturbed. The bed was comfortable and the facilities in the room were more than adequate. Unlike some of the places where we've stayed during this pandemic period, the hotel housekeeping service seemed to be operating as normal. Everyone we had to deal with was helpful and friendly.

Breakfast offers a variety of food and drink and is of a high quality.

We had no complaints, really, only little issues like the shower gel dispenser not working. That's quite a minor thing. Also, car parking on site could be a bit of a problem if you arrive late in the day and the bar is busy.

This place "ticked all the boxes" for us and we had a really pleasant stay at Bawn Lodge.

Arrived early and was greeted by a member of staff who explained that the room wasn’t ready yet so had a drink at the bar which was fine. Bar isn’t well kept, cleaning seems to be at a minimum even with the circumstances. Went up to the room and was basic but nice appeared to be clean but on closer inspection there was stains on the curtains, when fan was switched on lots of dust came out, plug in sink was dirty and needed close attention. When using the shower the water comes out boiling hot with no warning signs. The bed sheets were poor and had some marks on them. Booked a table in the restaurant for 7:30pm and was sat at our table by then. A member of staff took our drinks order which took around 20 minutes to come to the table. In that time another 3 members or staff asked if we had ordered which showed the lack off communication. Staff were keen to take payment for drinks even though we had explained that we would pay for it all at the end several times. We ordered food at around 7:50pm and was told that there would be a bit of wait as they were busy which was fine. In the mean time we noticed a lot of food was being taken back which caused us to worry, a lady member of staff came over and said “don’t worry, one of the male members had cocked up” which we thought was very unprofessional. We eventually got our food at 9:20pm which had been a long wait and the food was very lack lustre when it was brought over the member of staff even though apologetic didn’t seem genuine. We was apprehensive for breakfast in the morning, when greeted for breakfast we was told “the chef hasn’t turned up” and “I can’t blinking work anything so it’ll have to be continental this morning” which we were very shocked at. Even though the lady at breakfast was apologetic it wasn’t good enough. We was offered toast, cereal and tea that was all.
After all this we decided that we weren’t going to stay the rest of our trip as not being served breakfast was the last straw. When explaining to the owner that we were going to check out early he didn’t charge us which we are very grateful for and was very apologetics. However a lot of work needs to go into Bawn lodge.

Table for 6, very well organised with a one way system, space and clear barrier between tables for safety. Very clean! Staff were very friendly and super helpful. Food was AMAZING. We all had a sunday dinner with different meats and all found the meals beautifully cooked, big portions and reasonably priced and the puddings were to die for! We have been many times before and have always had an amazing meal. Couldn't fault it at all!

Arrived on Sat 28th for a 2 night stay. Rooms were compact but nicely decorated and everything in it that you might need. We had an issue with a noisy dripping shower which the management knew about but werent fixing until the New Year we were told which was annoying for me as a very light sleeper.
We were in room 1 which is on the front which is quite noisy as it is a busy road, we were also above the bar which is always busy, if your out late it doesn't matter but if not the music is on until 12.30 on Saturdays. Bar downstairs is quite nice.
Approx 12 minute walk into the centre of Chester, £4-5 back in a taxi.
If you are unable to walk far or are a light sleeper it probably isnt for you. If not though it is fine.

The location was superb a 10 minute walk from the train station also bus stop a 2 minute walk where we bought a day tripper ticket for £4.40 and used to visit the zoo, Cheshire Oaks and Chester town. The staff in the hotel were friendly and welcoming gave us lots of advice for our visit. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean with a fridge in the room, tea & coffee with the added touch of biscuits. We had dinner on our first night and the food was excellent and generous portions and the prices were good. Breakfast was ok plenty of cereals, fruit, yoghurts and juices with fresh coffee and tea to choose from, the cooked breakfast was not as good as I thought comparing it to the dinner Overall our visit was fantastic and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend to friends.

Disliked · After an excellent dinner the previous night I didn't think the breakfast was as good. It seemed as though it was warmed up rather than cooked fresh, it was passable but not great

Stayed for 5 nights and what a great choice it was. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the little extras in the room were very welcome things like a fridge, a fan, tea and coffee making facilities with hot chocolate to the little box of tissues very thoughtful. Room was a great size and the shower is great and mattress on bed perfect. Breakfast was great and good choice of cereal, yoghurt, fruit, and juices with ample full English provided excellently done. The bar and food also good with some nice menu options and you even get free parking out back. All in all a really great place to stay would highly recommend and will be back when visiting Chester or nearby again.

We stayed for two nights, staff very friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night, great food and wine, both reasonably priced. Rooms are modern, clean and tidy, not very big but suited our needs perfectly. The fridge in the room is a nice touch, to keep the wine cool - particularly as current restrictions meant pubs closed at 10pm. Chester is a 15 min walk away. There are some nice little pubs and restaurants just up the road in Hoole. I would recommend Made in Italy, awesome food. Breakfast in the hotel was standard, nothing fantastic, but started the day off well and was included in the price, so all good! All in all a great little hotel and bar/restaurant.

We come here for Sunday lunch a lot as we have failed to find a better Sunday lunch in Chester. Good portions of tasty food served by excellent staff at a very reasonable cost. During the present circumstances it is one of the few places doing social distancing correctly making all our visits here comfortable and as normal as things can be.

Although not walked it I would think no more than 10 mins depending on walking speed. I think I would take 5 -7 min but my wife says I walk quickly.

More like 8 minutes from the Bourne! Its fairly close & £5 to the bourne from the train station is over priced. Shouldn't be that much.

Id ho to the holiday inn. If i were you the rooms are nice food is good and theres wifi. However if you really want to stay at Bawn lodge ask for a room the opposite the car park as room 11 is very noisy, the breakfast isnt very good as mine was half cooked and the woman that serves it is very impolite infact damn right rude, she is mentioned in afew write up brusque someone said unhelpful another just read for yourself there are other places if they sorted the woman out id go back. The other nighle is you have to wrresle with ppl drinking in the bar when you come back from shopping / sightseeing as the rooms reception is through the bar its a odd lay out you eat your breakfast in the bar on a morning. But see for your self if you go there theres lots of B&Bs on that road.
