Read some of the reviews after booking and thought we had made a mistake.
On arrival Greeted warmly
Room 24 one of the superior rooms we could not fault at all, large, clean and of a good standard
air blown heating a little temperamental but OK.
General public areas needed a spruce up, as did the restaurant area which appears to have experienced a roof leak recently.
Pool and jacuzzi area were great, changing area a little cold.
Breakfast full English was very tasty, waiting staff warm and friendly
We stayed for 2 nights in early January.
taxi into town £5 reception happy to book for us. Return £6 to £7
Over all we enjoyed our stay, the location in its own grounds was peaceful and quiet though only a mile or so out of the centre.
Staff were an asset to the hotel. Room we experienced was great, general public areas need updating
We would consider returning

So I’ve literally just checked out this morning after a 4 night stay in this hotel. I had room 34 which is on the first floor directly above the entrance. Hotel is situated in lovely grounds and has ample parking. Initially, when I walked in it the hotel I thought it smelled a bit musty but that’s because of the age of the building. Warm welcome at check in and then up a beautiful staircase to my room. My room was lovely, immaculately clean, spacious and warm. Beautiful floor to ceiling windows, plenty of natural light and just a lovely feel to it. For heating there was a lovely old radiator and also an electric radiator as back up.
Bathroom had a bath with shower and the shower and was amazing lots of pressure to ease those tired muscles. However, I have to say that the shower is extraordinarily noisy (perhaps it’s the pump?) I was a little bit worried about waking the room next door.
We ate in the restaurant on 2 occasions and both times the meals were lovely. The serving staff were attentive and friendly. Just felt the restaurant lacked atmosphere (perhaps needs a bit of music in the background?) breakfast was delicious, good quality sausages and bacon etc.
Bar is a bit lacking, I can’t put my finger on it. It doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the hotel? You go through this lovely lounge area to access the bar and it is a sudden contrast - almost felt like a sports centre cafe. Prices are reasonable, I had raspberry gin and lemonade which cost £3.48. Again the bar staff were lovely.
The hotel also has a pool with jacuzzi and a small gym though I didn’t use these facilities.
I loved this hotel and would highly recommend it. But you have to note, this is an old building and has all the quirkiness that comes with old buildings, creaky floorboards, high ceilings, ornate light fittings and old doors etc. I’m pleased they have tried to keep the character of the building and not gone to this contemporary minimalist rubbish you get with a lot of new hotels. Will definitely stay again!!

It’s said that your staff are your greatest asset in any business. This is so true of this hotel. During our stay I can honestly say all staff were fantastic, friendly and a true asset to the hotel.

The hotel itself is decorated to a period style and so may appear a little old fashioned and could certainly do with a refresh in some areas however nothing too detrimental.

Staff were covid aware and it was good to see areas bring sanitized between customers in the restaurants.

The food itself, breakfast and the evening meals were beyond expectations and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend eating in.

Overall a pleasant stay - thank you all.

We booked here for a few day’s away with our children. As soon as we got to our room the outside doors were left open we soon realized this was because it absolutely stunk abit like a retirement home when someone has been waiting to be cleaned for a few hours. Hairs found in the bed which instantly turned my stomach. Decided against the pool after seeing the smashed windows. Overall the best part was the cooked breakfast after it finally arrived feel quite sorry for the waiting on staff who are clearly doing all the work. I’m only writing this to earn people like ourselves with small children nor to fall victim to this money making stinking dive read the other reviews they are not wrong.

Disliked · Arrived one hour early and told check-in not available yet and the bar was closed; not a soul in sight- after asking reception of there were any local amenities to wait at she eventually let us into our room. Walking into our room from an outside patio door we were greeted with dog poo and a dirty overfilled ashtray outside the door. Doormat was soaked due to door being left open. Room was huge. Very very dated the only recent improvements since 1989 appear to be new curtains and a very cheap office type carpet. The bathroom had filthy grout floors, mould in shower and smelt. The more our stay went on the damper it felt there is no ventilation in bathroom. To the point where our clothes were starting to smell damp and paper I t he room was going soggy! The gutter above door was leaking and kept me awake at night the constant dripping. Breakfast service and food was appalling only went once. Due to covid the hotel has some stringent measures in place that they did not inform us about prior, otherwise we would not have booked here. No room service, not allowed to bring food into your room, bar shut most of the time. Absolutely nothing to do there. They are not cleaning rooms daily, only every 4th day. You have to leave your damp filthy towels in the hotel corridor along with your rubbish and they replace with new ones. Imagine walking down the corridor looking at everyone’s dirty towels and rubbish, no wonder the hotel smells damp. It is a 25 min walk into town, the hotel is located in a housing estate with no amenities any nearer. We didn’t dare use the pool. We booked four nights but left after three. The hotel receptionist on checkout was very kind and sympathetic- the only positive.

Not worth the peak money they charge (£240 a night in August). The external building/grounds are nice and the staff are friendly and helpful but the room was very dated/basic. The food was the same, while there was nothing wrong with it was not worth what was being asked price wise. The location is not central to the town and unless you can walk for 40 minutes up and down some fairly big gradients then driving is the only option. If you get a stay for a budget price and are able to drive or don't mind taxis (we recommend Donalds Taxis who were great over our 4 night stay) then go for it.

I didn't take photos as I thought the ones on the website were fair and representative. Penmere is a really nice hotel in the centre of Falmouth, close to all amenities. There were a few things I could nitpick with (if I wanted to be really fussy), but we got a really good price for three of us, a HUGE room with settee etc, and the staff at the front desk, bar and restaurant were lovely (including our telephone booking). The grounds were nicely set out and pretty planting, lots of birds cheeping and our own patio area, chairs and table. The rooms and internal areas of the hotel were nicely furnished, spacious and very clean. I could see folks swimming in the pool but I didnt go in. The evening meal in the restaurant was very good, with a good selection of food on offer, and the Chef made a special vegetarian meal for one of our party with particular tastes that weren't on the menu (the menu already had two or three vegetarian meals offered). The breakfast was plentiful and super yummy, I had haddock and poached egg and had a very generous portion, so I didn't miss my usual full English. We would definitely go back.

We stayed for one night for my 28th birthday in September 2020. On arrival, it seemed obvious that the hotel needed modernising. The building and rooms look as though they’ve not had much redecoration in at least 20 years, if not 30. The garden needed tending to, the flagstones replacing and the weeds pulled out. The swimming pool has tiles missing and the water wasn’t very warm. This hotel may be cheaper than others in the area, but don’t be fooled, it’s not worth the money you will pay for it.

Our room was a budget room. We had a 1990s (yellowed) alarm clock, hairdryer and telephone. A lot of the furniture was damaged and hadn’t been fixed. The chairs looked fairly clean though and could have been reupholstered more recently. The curtains were ripped in places and looked a bit shabby. The bathroom was just as old. Bits seemed to be falling off of fittings everywhere. When I pulled the bed back, I accidentally pulled back the bottom sheet to reveal a ghastly old yellow blanket which had been used to cover the mattress underneath.

If this isn’t enough to put you off, be warned that the walls are paper thin. You will hear your neighbours singing and using the toilet in the middle of the night. Not particularly romantic!

Positives were the breakfast and they had a brilliant one way system in place around the hotel to keep visitors safe. The bedding seemed clean, even if the pillows weren’t great. The room was also sufficiently heated and the shower hot, so things could be worse!

We didn’t have a particularly great stay, but this hotel could be great if someone invested some money into it and employed a few more staff.

We booked this only the week before for a special occasion so didn't expect the best room, however also didn't expect to walk into a room that smelt like an old people's home!! The 2 highback chairs were threadbare on all arms. The room is as basic as it gets I do check things over as an ex hotel manager and mystified why a double blanket is attached to mattress?? Feather pillows really is this hygienic?? Thick dust on door frames. The now yellow hairdryer had a pat test sticker stating next check due 2008!!! The clock radio alarm also now yellow! And never knew tv's came in sizes that small. At almost £400 for 2 nights and the pictures online being nothing like the room it was a bit disappointing. However I will say both ladies on reception lovely and welcoming and friendly the hotel looks stunning from outside and bar and poor looked good but I didn't use. A lovely lady asked us how our stay was but I didn't complain as my husband had organised this trip for our anniversary and wasn't going to upset him . The website really is deceiving. The staff thankfully make up for it.

Ignore the bad reviews. I have just spent a week at the Penmere Manor Hotel. My husband is working in the area for a few weeks and I was able to join him, for a small additional charge to cover breakfast. Really comfortable and clean bedroom and bathroom, with views over the garden. All of the staff who served us drinks and food at both ends of the day, as well as looking after reception, were friendly, polite and professional.
