Meudon Hotel was a bit of a mixed bag for us kids on our tour of Devon and Cornwall. Absolutely no complaints about the hotel location, truly magnificent gardens and the little beach situated just a relaxing walk from the hotel. Without boring the readers with details.. our booking was made in error for the wrong week through Booking.com however after a lengthy conversation with Rita (respect) reservation was made directly with the hotel. On arrival around 10pm with virtually no lights on the car park and reception locked up, the night security finally answered our phone call to gain access. Room “55” a suite second floor with no access lifts was comfortable with the lovely view of the gardens below. A super choice breakfast menu was preordered and served in time slots by pleasant staff to ensure adequate social distance and of course that tranquil view of the gardens. Just one negative from this overly expensive visit .. housekeeping failed to serve the room during our stay (photos taken but not posted) Complaint made and thereafter a letter of explanation received from Gaye Woods .. let’s just leave it there, troubled times doesn’t need any more wood on the fire! Oh worth noting that this hotel is situated off the beaten tracks navigating extremely narrow roads making driving conditions really difficult especially during the dark hours or even worse through heavy rain.
Recommended that’s a yeah from us kids.. Gordon 🇬🇧 Sissi 🇨🇳. Cheshire

Thank you for your review. Hotel Meudon has been under new ownership and management since December 2021. There has been a substantial investment and upgrade to the property including the adding of 13 balconies / terraces. We have been receiving rave reviews and have recently won two gold awards (Hotel and Restaurant) at the Taste of the West Awards and silver for Restaurant of the Year at the Cornwall Tourism Awards. We would be delighted to welcome you to our newly refurbished hotel. We hope to see you soon. Very best wishes Suzannah Front of House Manager

We had a lovely time and have never received such faultless service.
The rooms have large comfortable beds, a fridge with fresh milk, nice refreshment tray.
We had a garden view room with a balcony, which is well worth the small additional cost.
The bathrooms are compact but modern, very clean with a great shower above a bath. My only critiscism is that the bathroom windows have been poorly placed to protect privacy. I believe blinds will be needed. Good quality shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, handwash and body lotion are provided by Bloom.
The food was excellent and so flavoursome and my complex dietary requirements were no trouble thanks to Stephen and his team. Service really is impeccable.
The gardens and private beach are beautiful and garden furniture very clean.
We stayed for 2 nights and can't wait to return.
Hotel Meudon really will look after you. Well done to all of your team for ensuring your guests have a fantastic time.

We didn't know what to expect after hotels had been shut for so long , but we were pleasantly surprised how smoothly the owner Gaye and her team implemented all the social distancing from getting your room card to breakfast so well. We wanted a hotel where we didn't have to wear masks and get away from the stresses of life and this break did this. We had a garden view double room which was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom, but the bathroom could do with some upgrading. What was the best surprise was the restaurant where breakfast was served. It had a stunning view of the gardens and the sea in the background and the restaurant itself had cornish stone pillars and grapevines with sliding doors opening to the sub tropical gardens leading to a private beach 5-10 minute walk away. The breakfast was amazing with a lot of variety and we were given full choice the night before via a checklist which the chef picked up by 11pm. The cornish full breakfast was cooked to perfection, free range produce, home made granola, porridge, fruit, yoghurt and nothing was too much trouble and all placed on a table behind you maintaining social distancing. Gaye and her staff were working harder than normal to make everyone's stay relaxing. Thank you.

Firstly the good stuff, amazing setting, gardens and access to an uncrowded beach, nice cream teas, friendly staff who tried so hard to make the place a memorable place to stay. Well it was but for all the wrong reasons, if you get allocated Room 68 don’t expect to sleep, after 3 nights of disturbed sleep caused by the night walking elephant in the room above and very creaky floor boards we had to ask to be moved, to be fair to the Manager this was sorted with no hassle at all. Breakfast well sadly another story, 6 mornings of what can only be described as a lottery, what would we get compared to what was ordered the night before? Basic errors no condiments, lucky if we got a cup and saucer, final straw was tea and coffee served but with no water so had to boil the kettle in the room. Actually got to the point where I felt embarrassed to call reception to complain and ask for things to be put right. There was no atmosphere, nothing open after 6.00 which given its isolated location was a real let down, we wanted to sit out in the garden one night when we got back at 22.00 but grounds were pitch black, not a light on anywhere, £200 a night is not good value for this hotel, it’s up for sale so can only assume that’s reflected in the current experience and level of service, shame it could be amazing.

We decided to book a suite and can recommend Room 43 on the 1st Floor. The views across the garden were splendid and we had the morning sun on the balcony which was great.

The hotel had implemented a good system to manage the COVID regulations/guidelines with minimum contact needed on arrival and departure. Staff were customer focussed and responded to our needs/requests. Everything was very clean although scaled back in the public areas to support social distancing.

We decided to have breakfast in the room during our stay and it came at the requested time and the cooked food was generally hot and the poached eggs soft as well which was a bonus as in so many hotels they are like rubber. To point out we had things missing from our order each day and we did find it amusing to see what the next day would bring! Missing items were quickly delivered and a point to make would be for somebody to check the tray before it leaves the kitchen.

Good recommendations for local restaurants and we were so glad that we had booked ahead as this was the week the 10.00 p.m. closing came in.

Cornish Cream tea was lovely with nice light scones and we would recommend them to guests.

We also had a few drinks in the bar and sampled some different flavours of Tarquins gins - very acceptable. Each occasion sadly, due to the pandemic we were the only people in the bar. A bonus after an early dinner one evening was a log fire had been lit and it was lovely to sit in the warm glow following a rather wet and windy day.

The gardens are stunning with such a wide variety of trees etc. As you get close to the private beach at Bream Cove you suddenly get the smell of the sea. Good walks from the hotel along the SW Coastal path are an added bonus. Plenty of sun traps In the garden with tables and chairs.

One thing to also mention that a large number of guests have dogs and we did experience some disturbance from barking and howling. This seemed to be when guests had left animals in their room when they went for breakfast. Fortunately, we were awake and on one particularly bad morning the hotel did phone us to ask if we were being disturbed too much.

We really enjoyed our 7 night stay and would certainly recommend the hotel to couples/friends as opposed to families with children and would certainly like to come back.

A beautiful hotel in a stunning location with a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
The grounds are stunning and the hotel itself has such character.
Living locally I have been for coffee and experienced the grounds which offer the lovely little beach and some stunning walks.
I was fortunate to take advantage of a ‘seasonal saver’ and it was such a wonderful deal and worth every penny.
The beds/pillows were very comfortable, really nice toiletries and everyone was very attentive.
The food was presented lovely (had an allowance of £30pp towards the evening meal) however I did think the food was a little overpriced for what you got. Wine also rather expensive, however the views and location made it special.
Lovely breakfast too, help yourself continental with a choice of then cooked options.
Thanks again for a wonderful stay and please keep this deal going as much as possible as it’s such a delight and I have since recommended it to many others xx

Extremely welcoming and accommodating to guests needs, the staff were exceptional in all areas of the hotel.
We stayed for 5 nights in a garden view room which was very comfortable with an amazing view of the fabulous sub-tropical gardens. We know the area well and chose this location for it’s direct access to the coast and beach, how lovely to be able to walk down through the beautiful gardens early morning before breakfast. We wanted a tranquil restorative break and the hotel suited our needs, spa treatments are available to book in advance, along with yoga and a personal trainer if required.
Dinner was delightful and there is also Freddie’s Bar for pre dinner drinks or after dinner, hosted by a very pleasant young chap.
We hope the world doesn’t discover this gem as we will be back again and again and will be disappointed if fully booked when we wish to visit, there are only 30 rooms.

treated my mum to a night away here
We cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience from start to finish
Peaceful tranquil setting with direct access to the beach which we went for a swim when we first arrived and explored the stunning gardens ,the ladies at eception were so welcoming and professional and couldn’t offer enough help
The room was clean spacious and beautiful views of the garden - stunning style and even the little touches were just beautiful, we could have been anywhere in the world - a real mix of tropical vibes
We started off with our cocktails at Freddys beautiful snug style retro bar , the boys were so knowledgeable and loved clearly making cocktails because they tasted amazing.

Our meal in the restaurant was beyond our expectations the flavours and the food was presented beautifully

Melissa who served us really advised us on the wine which suited our dishes and in what order to eat our cheese
She was so knowledgeable, polite and had the most loveliest way to her , a real asset to the hotel.

We relaxed in Freddys bar with the most delicious stylish cocktails and sat beside the fire after dinner with coffee and we felt so looked after by James who couldn’t have done more for us advising us on which cocktail to have and dessert to what walks to do , we felt so looked after by all the staff for the whole time we were there and all took the time spent to tell us all about the history of the hotel and grounds we enjoyed hearing all about it. The staff had so much time for us and were all so Passionate about the hotel and were immaculate!

We went for a coastal walk right from the hotel and finished off with the most amazing high tea in the gardens surrounded by beautiful plants and wildlife

We just cannot wait to book again!

Really warm and friendly staff. Fantastic food and presentation for both breakfast and evening meals.( The American pancake was the biggest and yummiest pancake I’ve ever seen! ) Rooms were massive, ( we had a garden view room with balcony) all toiletries were organic- really thoughtful. Lovely walk through the gardens down to the beach, with immediate access onto the coastal path. Highly recommend!

We recently stayed in one of the garden rooms, firstly you would never know dogs stay in these rooms as there are spotless so well done to the housekeeping staff. The gardens are amazing but the private beach at the end really does top it off, thanks to Christopher the maintenance man for giving us a lift back up the hill 👍🏼 We didn’t want to leave our dog in the room when we dined so a separate area away from the restaurant was set up, perfect for us so thank you for that, dinner was quite expensive but, quality ingredients cooked perfectly. Would totally recommend this hotel, super dog friendly, great location, superb staff . Just one point , maybe put up a blind in the bathroom (room 36) I mentioned this to the member of staff when we checked out. Thanks all will definitely be returning.
