Detailed Reviews
Lovely hosts; excellent breakfast; very clean room. Plenty of sanitiser every where. Great views towards the harbour. The dining room was very well spaced out and contactless greeting by video door bell or phone. Highly recommend it.

My wife and I stayed 6 nights it was our first visit to Cornwall. Our first impression on arrival was what a super location on a hill over looking Falmouth harbour and how clean the b and b was, we had room 7 which was on the top floor which had a large double bed a table and 2 chairs and a small fridge with 2 bottles of wine and a can of beer inside (a very nice touch). Breakfast was very well organised and time slots for each room . The breakfast itself was absolutely superb the best we have ever had in any b and b or hotel. All in all it was a great stay.

A friend and myself stayed here for a couple of nights on business in the area. Tregenna is very close to all amenities in the town and very close to the rail Station. It has off road parking and a very warm welcome from Louise , the proprietor was very much appreciated after a long drive down from Yorkshire. The Guest house is in excellent decorative condition carried out to a high standard . The room we stayed in No 7, was clean , once again excellent décor all round, none of the loose toilet seats that I have come across all to often in other establishments, excellent shower area, and tea/coffee facilities, a nice touch was a small fridge with two beers inside. The breakfast room is exceptional, bright and airy with fantastic views overlooking the sea. Breakfast menu was really good, and of course a Full Cornish breakfast was to be had along with cereals, toast/ marmalade etc. All in all a very enjoyable establishment run by Louise and Mark Rickman, both very friendly and pleasant people.

We loved our stay at Tregenna guest house! Made to feel very welcome. The room was very clean and the breakfast was gorgeous! Best vegetarian sausages I’ve had and nothing was too much trouble!
Loved the personal touches of fresh milk and water in the fridge and hubby enjoyed the beers and gin and tonic too.
Close enough to walk to town and the sea front.
Will definitely return 🙂🙂

The room was tiny. Temperature VERY regulated by the owner. Came back to our room early evening after a cold day of sightseeing and the room was freezing…could not turn on the heat. Finally came on each night around 7pm. Towels old/frayed and don’t ask for replacements (or you’ll get an attitude and lengthy explanation from the owner; overheard her complaining about another guest). Upon arrival to any hotel, we wipe all surfaces with sanitizing wipes. The desk chair had enough crumbs, where the cushions meet, to question how often and well the room is cleaned. The kettle filter was coated in lime scale. Bathroom door was dirty with coffee stains/spills. Thick cobwebs on radiator (behind/knobs) and a horrible scented sachet in the armoir to mask some sort of smell. Room facing road, so it was noisy. The bathroom is very small with a mile long list of instructions on how to properly take a hot shower with the electric heater! Even after following to a ‘t’, it still turns ice cold halfway through. The ocean is within walking distance, but there is no ‘beach’ (no sand). Walk to town is about 15 minutes. Parking is very tight for 1-2 cars. Brought dinner back 1st night and ate on sun porch as we were not sure if we could bring food inside the dining area. Cleaned up after ourselves. The next morning, the sunporch was left dirty with empty alcohol bottles and dirty ashtrays, so we couldn’t enjoy our coffee outside. There was no host communication to check in on us or offer amenities or even ask how we were doing. It all felt very mechanical with long written lists and an absence of host contact (has nothing to do with COVID, as no one was keeping distance or wearing masks). Overall not a good experience, but afraid to say anything, as the owner (female) was unapproachable and only saw her overwhelmed at breakfast…with a condescending answer for everything! (Just read the review replies :)). This was hands down the worst place we stayed in Cornwall. :(

Response from Mark Rickman, Owner at Tregenna Guest House
Responded 1 May 2022
We expected that you may do something like this but let me start off by stating that we are small family run 7-bedroom Bed and Breakfast and that in the six years we have been owning this we have received 318 Tripadvisor reviews, 275 of those have been 5 star and you have given us our first 1 star review. So much you have stated is just incorrect; Five minutes walk away there is a large sandy Blue Flag beach, in your two nights here you must have missed it. If you follow the instructions issued by email the town is 7 minutes walk away not 15. My wife gets up at 6:am seven mornings every week, so she can lay out and cook the breakfast for our guests, the breakfast time is between 8am and 9:30am, she noted that when she went to the kitchen both mornings before 7am as usual you were both already up and about, so if any cleaning of the outside area was required as you stated then when could this be carried out to suit your time frame if another guest had used the facility when we were asleep in bed? You also state that there is car parking 1-2 cars, which is not true again, there is parking for three cars which you must have known as you had to go past them all including your own to our recycling bins to break and dump the lock so you could empty your car rubbish into it (we noted all the vegan sweet wrappings and carrots). We have strict commercial recycling laws here in the UK and as clearly stated on the top of the bin; please hand in your car rubbish so we can recycle it in the correct way. We have electric showers in all the rooms, which is very common in the UK as it provides each room with unlimited hot water, we have clear instructions as stated because if not used properly the anti-scald switch kicks in which sound like it happened to you, we have no complaints at all about the showers other than from you. The heating is on between 6:30am and 12:30pm, each room radiator and bathroom towel rail has a thermostatic valve so the guest can control their own heating requirements, the heating automatically switches on if the temperature falls below 21c (73f) which is the recommendation here in the UK and seems to be perfect for all our guests bar you. As you insisted on receiving new towels daily despite the the fact that we state every three days (again very normal in the UK as everyone tries to be Green) my wife also supplied an electric towel rail for you, I checked the one in your bathroom to find out it had been turned off on the return valve by someone for some reason, which I sorted straight away. Of course you can bring food into the dining room to eat that is why there is plenty of crockery and cutlery left out. We are constantly praised for the cleanliness of the rooms both in reviews and directly, the rooms are cleaned daily and what you stated about the state of the room was incorrect. The scented pad on top of the wardrobe is not there to cover up a "smell" as you put it but it is just provides a pleasant odour that no guest has ever mentioned before. We have continued to operate a self check in system since the covid regulations as guests like the flexibility of being able to check in whenever they like and there is a video bell so guests can always speak to us even if we are out. There are no mask or social distancing mandates anymore in the UK so that is why guests and staff no longer wear them and that is everywhere so why pick on us?? You stated that the kettle filter had limescale on it, Cornwall is an ultra soft water area which means that it is impossible for any limescale build up in kettles or any other water device, so that is again just plainly incorrect. Now onto your comments on my wife, yes she is very busy at breakfast times and has other guests to consider not just the demanding ones, she is very popular with normal guests and her staff, in fact the previous Tripadvisor review to your is titled "Wonderful Hosts". she had also recieved some very upsetting news that weekend but had to plough on regardless as guests still require their breakfasts and she was very upset by your attitude as all the other guests this year have been a delight. Please note that we were delighted to provide you with a one-night refund straight away as we would rather have lost the revenue than you staying a third night. I am sorry to say that your review says more about you than us.

Louise cooks the best full English breakfast every day to a very very high standard. The room was very clean and the beds are quality, The Guest House is in a Great location near Pendennis Caslle, Railway Station, Town centre. Theh City of Truro is only 10 miles up the road. (Ladies the Marks and Spencers is Massive). Top Tip, if you dont want to walk Donald's Taxi are very cheap. I will guarantee you will come back again,

We stayed for 4 nights while visiting our son. A fabulous guest house, lovely room, had everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was fabulous with great views over Falmouth. There was also the Covid friendly option for a lighter breakfast brought to our room in a hamper which we did a couple of mornings and was great- cereal, fruit salad, yogurt, bacon and sausage baps all with fresh orange juice and coffee! Very impressed!
The location is perfect, just up the hill from the maritime Square and the start of the shops and pubs and directly opposite at the end of a short road are the most beautiful gardens which lead down to the seafront.
Would highly recommend staying here!

Stayed here for 2 nights in August, was given Room 7 on the top floor with a great view out over the bay and docks at Falmouth. Room was clean and cosy, with books to read, a radio and TV plus ensuite shower.
Breakfast was done by time and room number and the friendly waitress was quick to serve. You could choose pretty much anything on the menu for breakfast.
A good price and hoping to return next summer - have already recommended to family.

Warm friendly environment making our stay in Cornwall very pleasant. The effort put in place to allow a safe place to stay has not deterred from the high friendly standards we have received in the past. One of the best breakfasts available and they have not compromised in standards by offering a breakfast hamper. Very well worth the money and a beautiful place to stay

Having visited Falmouth on and off for 55 years, and stayed here before under previous owners, I was aware I'd be ok again. In fact it was more than ok. From arrival to all too soon departure, the experience was a pleasure. Easy check-in, with the room ready and waiting. I usually finish the tea/sugar/milk in the room, so it was great to know that extra was available to help yourself. Lovely clean room, with a superb view. As long as you follow the shower instruction you'll be fine. The breakfasts are just on another level, locally sourced, and so tasty you won't need sauce from anywhere else! So much choice, however you'd like it done, and wish I'd decided on "scrambled" egg on my first day.........so good! Try the hogs pudding, (I asked Louise for the name of the local butcher, and brought two back), the local spreads are lovely, just don't think of your waistline for a little while! Around the guest house are plenty of leaflets/booklets, some with discount vouchers, if you choose to venture out of Falmouth, and need some guidance. Close to rail station, beaches, town centre, gardens, and very covenient for Princess Pavilion. Thanks Lousie and Mark for a lovely stay.
