We discovered Barclay House by chance in 2001 when our preferred hotel in Looe was fully booked. As a result, we discovered an absolute gem. The then new owners, Nick and Kelli Barclay, had transformed the place from a chintz palace - all too typical of British hotels - into a stunning place to stay. We returned almost every year,...

We booked the 5* holiday cottage for one week, costing £1,000. On arrival the driveway is extremely steep and because the car was loaded with all the self catering provisions it scraped along the drive! Once parked, we hauled everything a fair distance up steep steps to the cottage. First impressions quite good but once settled in, we started to...

All of us at Barclay House are saddened by this review, mostly because, condition of the bafbecue excepted (for which we do hold up our hands), nothing else is remotely true. This guest made his complaint in the most bullying manner to our female receptionist. He shouted at her and abused her so loudly that he was heard in the...

We stayed for 4 nights - 2 nights in a smaller room overlooking the kitchen, garden and pool - then 2 nights in a lovely room overlooking the river. I would definitely recommend booking a room at the front of the hotel since the views are fantastic. The staff were impeccably trained and could not be more helpful with high...

We have just returned from an excellent week at Barclay House. This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the Barclay House Hotel having previously stayed at in one of the cottages on the same site. We can't fault any aspect of the hotel that really offers great value for money and all the staff are great as well,...

I have to say this is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. You are struck by the complete calm and cleanliness as soon as you arrive. The service from start to finish cannot be faulted. The restaurant is bright and airy. The food is out of this world! As stressed business owners it was a great...

I am in the middle of re-booking to stay at Barclay House this summer but was disappointed to find the negative review of the Deputy Manager. I would like to contradict this review and also state that he is a very friendly and helpful member of staff whom will help you out with any requirements. He is very approachable and...

From arrival until check out we felt extremely welcome and there was nothing that would be too much trouble for staff. During our stay we were always look after with warm smile. Before we have arrived my wife ask if they can organize some oysters and Eggs Benedict for me (as these are my favourites) and of course, even in...

This was our second stay at Barclay House and as with our previous visit we experienced some of the best service we've received at hotels on our travels. This time we stayed for five days in the Family room which has a wonderful aspect looking out over the Looe valley. The room was very light and airy and kept spotlessly...

We have always travelled down to Cornwall for over thirty years and absolutely love the place. We have always gone to stay in Newquay (trying to re-live our youth or something like that) and it always felt like we were going home, but this year we had booked the week off and hadn't made our mind up what to do....
