Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

I have just read review from a lady called L.H. I cannot believe she is referring to same place. Just ten minutes ago I have been speaking to my husband and a friend about returning for our third visit. We have enjoyed our last two stays very much and loved the friendly atmosphere, lovely rooms and well cooked breakfasts.

Beautiful and spotlessly clean accommodation, first time in Looe and was made to feel so welcome by owners Debs and Bob, lovely breakfast made from all local produce, ideal location close to harbour and just a five minute walk to bars and restaurants found Debs and Bob both helpful and informative about all things in Cornwall, arrived as strangers but left as friends, will definitely be returning, Andy & Kev

Beautiful quaint B&B with fantastic hosts Bob and Debs. Nothing is too much trouble and Debs keeps everywhere spotlessly clean. This was our second visit and already I can't wait to go back next year. Looe is a beautiful place to visit and this B&B is the perfect place to stay. Breakfast excellent.

A fabulous experience. The Old Malt House B&B is sat in a quaint Cornish street in the heart of Looe - metres from the harbour, town and beach. I was given a warm welcome by the owners and had my suitcases taken up to the room whilst I was given a tour. It was like stepping into Pinterest with the quirky ornaments and decorations. I was shown to what appeared to be a bookcase, but was actually a door to the bedrooms! Fantastic! The bedroom had everything; a big double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table and en-suite toilet. The room was spotless and the towels and tea and coffee were replenished as and when I needed. The power shower was lovely too and I appreciated the embroidered make-up remover flannel - a nice, thoughtful touch. The owners offered a scrumptious full English breakfast daily and were very helpful to suggest good restaurants and places to see. The owners, Deb and Bob, really could not do more for me and had such a friendly and hospitable manner - I felt right at home. I really enjoyed my 4-night stay at The Old Malt House in Looe and have already made plans to return next Summer!

I was shown to my room by the lady owner. Room was quite small and bed is certainly not a double more a divan. I requested whether there was a larger room. I was not expecting the response I received. The lady owner said all rooms are the same size and I suggest you find somewhere else to stay. She said she did not want us to stay in her B&B all because I requested if we could have a larger room! I refused to leave because we had already paid for the 4 nights x £75 = £300 including what is said “free breakfast”. I have never experienced such a hostile reception in all my years of travelling around the UK and around the worldwide. The lady owner was not friendly at all. When we made our way to the room after parking our car up the steep hill, we tried to open the window because it was quite stuffy, my husband struggled. When my husband called for assistance, the look on her face said it all. That was the last time we set eyes on her. We chose not to go down to breakfast, could not face her unfriendly face & behaviour towards us and especially not to ruin our holiday. After our first night &morning, we placed our used towels on the bathroom floor for changing. We were notified that the towels are only changed after 4 days and were placed back on the hand rail. Convenient considering we stayed 4 nights!!! So we had to use the same bath and hand towels from the day we arrived day 1 to our 4th day. We never had to experience using the same towel for 2 days let alone 4days! They were still wet from the night before. We made the best of a bad situation and on our last night, we decided to leave at 6am to travel up to North Cornwall. We know the owners of this B&B are not locals so explains a lot particularly about the behaviour of the lady. We have been holidaying to Cornwall over 30yrs and know the Cornish people are extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough for you and would certainly not treat their paying guests in this manner. The lady owner whom I do not refer to by name said "you better not give me a bad review". It has taken me close to year to write this review at my husband’s request! He says other guests should be made aware that she is not as friendly as she makes out to be!

Response from 977debg, Owner at The Old Malt House Bed & Breakfast
Responded 14 Aug 2019
Although this lady stayed with us almost a year ago, we remember her well ! On her arrival at our door she informed us that her husband had booked this place for their anniversary and she was not happy with his choice, as she wanted to stay in a large hotel with sea views, therefore could she have her money back so she could go to find such a place. My wife politely explained our cancellation policy and that a refund would not be given. The lady was then invited in to look at the room, where she bombarded us with insults about our bed and breakfast, she also said that if we did not return her money she would "trash us on TripAdvisor".At this point she was asked to leave, just as her husband came from the car, calming her down and apologizing. Because he seemed a like a nice chap we agreed they could stay. When they did not come down for breakfast we just presumed they were embarrassed about her behavior at check in. Just to clarify a few things, all our beds are standard doubles (4ft 6").We launder towels when needed (usually 2-3 days depending on use). It is true we are not originally from Cornwall and we are sorry if this lady found our place of birth not to her liking.

Recently stayed here for 4 nights after reading other reviews and we weren't disappointed. Very friendly welcome from the owners. The room wasn't huge but very well appointed, had everything we needed, nice decor and spotlessly clean. Well situated for walking to the harbour, shops, eateries and beach, yet in a quiet location. Added bonus of parking although this was up the hill away from property- not a problem for us. Room tidied every day and tea and coffee replenished daily. Fantastic full English breakfast. Can't fault this place and definitely value for money. Just to note that there is a flight of steps up to rooms so probably not suitable for anyone unable to climb stairs. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.

Amazing hosts, polite and friendly. Can’t wait for a return visit . Highly recommended Bob and Debbie are great hosts , we felt very relaxed and comfortable in their home. The b&b is situated just a 5 minute walk from the town centre which is ideal.

Myself and my partner stayed here in April. It was an absolute delight and Deb and Bob were both very friendly, inclusive and happy to provide service. The rooms are kept immaculate and the breakfast was a great start to each day, setting us up for a nice relaxing day out walking the town and the surrouning area. A great number of local people we came into contact with were always high in praise of them, and following our stay we can only agree with them. The place was quiet and relaxing and great attention was given to ensure we had a good time in Looe. A great place to stay.

We can not fault the Old Malt House in Looe , Cornwall.. Such a beautifully decorated building , well presented throughout and welcoming hosts .. Bob & Debs we’re attentive, and above all looked after their guests in every way. We had 2 nights at the B&B which made the weekend , Looe itself is quiet , but also beautiful and charming .. We’d definitely go back , Bob I may even take up gig rowing ! Thanks for making us feel relaxed and entertained over breakfast! Darrin & Lindesy
