The Portbyhan Hotel is situated in an unrivalled position right in the heart of Looe, allowing guests to relish the panoramic views of the vibrant harbour with only a short stroll into Looe town. The Edwards family, who operate an award-winning holiday company in South Wales, purchased the hotel in June 2013 and have since invested over £2.1 Million in a full-refurbishment of the exterior, bedrooms, restaurant, bar and public areas. These renovations, the location and the excellent services that the hotel offers have all contributed to the Portbyhan Hotel recently winning “Best Individual Hotel” at the prestigious National Coach Tourism Awards. Our public areas are also open to non-residents therefore if you are passing and wish to meet the team, sample our locally sourced cuisine or simply relax and enjoy a cold beverage on our roof top garden, please feel free, we would love to see you!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. Good location in lovely seaside town. The dinners were very good. Choice and amount. The service was 1st class. Organised as feeding two coach loads. Only last night slight delay but was passed on to all be 5/10 mins late. Gave us a rest which was nice. Breakfast was buffet and had all the usual. Only negative was you had to order eggs if not want fried and then the fried eggs were slow in coming as it appeared to have one cook and one frying pan? But everything else as again 1st class. We had room 309 which other reviews mention the noisy air con unit. Not air con for the room but assumed kitchens. So not on all the time. My wife said it was like being on an airplane. Also very hot even in feb with no heating on. Plus was a fan was supplied. Bathroom small but clean and good towels. Shower small with up and down temperture. Nice bar area with views of the harbour.

Lovely welcoming hotel, all staff were so friendly and pleasant. Great variety of food and plentiful set menu (we were with coach party). Beer served at bar was clearest and freshest you could get, lovely gins! Our room was very modern and freshly decorated. Bed was big and so comfy. Thanks, we hope to be back !

Went here with David Ogden Coach Tours the hotel is in a perfect location right on the estuary. We had a room at the front of the hotel with a balcony and river view which would have been lovely if there hadn't been any seagulls the balcony obviously hadn't been cleaned. The room was of an adequate size with a comfortable king size bed, the bathroom was very tight it had everything we needed, a walk in shower, a toilet and very small wash hand basin but an awkward shape. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was OK but nothing to write home about the food was disappointing and bland and to be honest it was a little chaotic there didn't seem to be any organisation/ management.

Dear kathmc, Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed your time in Looe. It is of course disappointing to read that the food and some elements of the service did not exceed your expectation. We are very excited for this year as we are continuing to build on the fantastic reputation we have built over the past 12 months and will keep striving for excellence. Hopefully, we will welcome you again. Kind regards Lindsey

An excellent trip to The Portbyhan Hotel in Looe with Blakes Coaches. Everyone was so helpful from the minute we arrived until we left. The hotel and our room were spotlessly clean and everything we needed provided. The meals were excellent and the portions generous - very good value for money. The entertainment we were given was very good - especially the singer. The bingo and quiz good fun and entertaining - yes entertaining! Lastly the staff. What can I say. We have done several short coach trips this year but this hotel comes out tops for the service, cleanliness and friendliness we were given by the staff. Nothing too much trouble. Thank you. Also a quick mention to our driver Tony for looking after us so well throughout the trip.

We had a 2 night stay at the Portbyhan Hotel, Looe. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the room was warm, clean and comfortable. The location is perfect. Restaurant and bar prices were very reasonable and the food was freshly cooked and service was good.We had a balcony room overlooking the quay with views over the river to East Looe. The beach, shops, pubs and restaurants are all within easy walking distance.
