Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is very comfetable, very clean and very friendly. Close to all amenities, beaches, town centre, railway station but still set in a quiet and peaceful setting. The stay there was extremely enjoyable, lovely breakfast. Extremelely helpful owner, makes your stay very enjoyable. He was very knowledgable about Newquay, restaurants, surfing and any general information. I would definately return and recommend this Hotel to all my friends.

As most people have said on here, Duncan is very welcoming and laid back guy. the hotel was great, clean and tidy, also very modern with freeview TV's and white walls in both our rooms. the hotel is in 1 minutes walking distance from the town centre where you will find everything you could possibly need. will be sure to stop here again! if not purely for the great breakfasts :)

Stayed for 2 nights with my daughter and friends. Lovely place and friendly staff. Received a warm welcome. Room was clean and tidy. A stones throw from the beach. Throughly enjoyed our visit and would definately book again.

This was my first time in Newquay so wanted to stay somewhere cheap and close to the town centre, something this hotel has to offer.

The service I received from Duncan was excellent and the breakfasts were fantastic! The only problems I had staying here was the lack of parking at the hotel, there was also no tea/coffee facilities or towels in my room.

Other than the few problems I had it was a fantastic place to stay and a good base for exploring Newquay and the surrounding area.

Been meaning to write this review for some time. I came over last September from Egypt and can honestly say I did not want to go back, the hotel and owners were brilliant! The atmosphere and friendliness of the place is infectious, which always makes any stay more pleasurable. The breakfasts were outstanding, it was like tasting angels dancing on my tongue in comparison to egyptian breakfasts (maybe a slight exaggeration, but you get my drift). If you are looking for a clean, happy, fun hotel I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I will definitely be staying next time, when I visit which is hopefully in August.

Well....it was average. We were greeted by a very friendly guy could not fault his service. Our room was possibly the best room there we had a fab view and teeny tiny balcony which I don't believe any of the other rooms had. Its very basic and very small but that is all we expected, bed was comfy and linen was clean (although was bunk beds with a single above a double). Unfortunately the room stank of smoke and airing it out really wasn't enough. There was a small bathroom, toilet work and sink worked, Shower was like Chinese water torture. If you were after a nice powerful hot shower that just was not going to happen! Everything could do with a little up date, little things like the sticking door on the bathroom, the stains on the carpet and the broken curtain. Just seemed a little tired. Location is good. Breakfast was good (pretty much all you can eat they didn't want you to head off for the day on an empty stomach that is for sure. Service was great. If you are on a tight budget and just want to have fun in New Quay and all you want your room for is too sleep then this is the place for you as its a great location.

I stayed at the hillcrest in late August 2011 for a week of surfing and relaxing with my partner and another couple. The hotel and owner (Duncan) was fantastic. The rooms were very clean and welcoming. The breakfast was hearty and a perfect start for good days surfing. There is a range of surfing equipment to choose from. We all had excellent surfing lessons arranged through the hotel. It is only a short walk to town and the beach. Duncan is an experienced surfer and gave us great advice. He was extremely helpful especially when I got stung by a weaver fish!
I will be staying here again.

Having read the last review on here, I could not disagree more that the hotel is just held together with quick fix workmanship. I thought very much to the contrary, that the hotel was BRILLIANT. Personally, I thought the decor was clean and bright and the room way clean and tidy and the bed linen smelt lovely and fresh. Well located for a short walk into town with lots of shops, restaurants and pubs. Duncan (the owner) could not have made us feel more welcome with his warmth and friendly smile. The breakfast was great and the staff were really lovely. I was there with a group of 8 other friends and we all loved the place. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Duncan, thank you for looking after us so well. Maria.

I stayed here with 2 friends for a long weekend , the hotel was very clean and brightly decorated , rooms were very modern. Duncan (the owner ) was very helpful and friendly, we also had a surf lesson arranged by the hotel , which was great fun. Breakfasts were good too , choices of cerals / toast and something cooked.

Overall highly recommended.
