We've been here in 2007, 2011, 2018 and recently in 2023 and this is why - lovely apartments which are spacious, modern, clean and have everything you need. Can't fault it. Absolutely stunning location which is quiet and clean. Take a look at that gorgeous sunset! Just one very small recommendation - the top bedroom of the penthouse tends to get quite hot, so maybe a fan could be kept there. Would recommend without hesitation!!

Compared to other available apartments this place was very good value for money, especially as we booked direct which was cheaper. The photos of the type of booking that we choose showed that we might get a balcony within the enclosed courtyard area, so it was a bonus when we weren't in that area. There are 2 or 3 sets of steps up to the annexe area for 4 of the apartments, so it may be wise if you are in 30, 31, 32 or 33 to pack in smaller, lighter bags. The downside to our balcony was it was directly attached to the next one, with just a wrought iron fence, so it felt like we couldn't be out at the same time. Also, despite the property being advertised as non-smoking, smoking was allowed on the balcony, and this meant that in this particular set up we had to go inside and shut the doors to avoid the smell. The kitchen was well equipped, and although a little dated, and guesses needed on which hub you were turning on, or the setting for the oven as the markings had rubbed off, everything was functional. The bathroom worked and the shower had good temperature and pressure. The beds were comfy, and the blackout blinds were a welcome addition. As the week went on, the weather became warmer and so did the apartment. We couldn't find a way to turn off the kitchen underfloor heating (the thermostat was set at 8 degrees) and was always warm, which we don't think helped. At night, when it was quiet, you could hear upstairs using the bathroom. There was a regular noise during the night, and we could only assume it was either the boiler system or the fridge in the apartment above us being very loud and amplifying through the walls. Once we were asleep though, it didn't bother us. The view was of the pub roof, but also the hill with a windy road, which could make it noisey when the doors were open, mainly due to it being to quiet everywhere - noises seemed loud as they carried. All in all, this was a holiday apartment in a lovely location, with everything that you needed at a good price for us. It hit all the basics standards of a holiday apartment.

Walking distance to the lovely bay, The Hut and Wax for coffee or food. We had apartment 33 nice views of the hill and bay. Good stay even with the heavy rainfall. Only issue is the balcony floods badly so next day cannot sit out there chilling looking at the view. Heating is good, apartment clean and tidy with all you need. I’ve stayed a good few times over the last two decades always enjoy it there. Note there’s no lifts lots of up and down stairs. Parking on site.

We have been staying in apartment 23. Gorgeous location and a comfortable and nicely decorated, clean apartment. Partial sea view from the balcony, which is fabulous. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay (despite the rain storms). The apartment is well equipped and it’s just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Watergate Bay beach and a couple of lovely eateries, including the Beach Hut and Wax . But I wouldn’t recommend apartment 23 unless you’re happy to wear ear plugs or can sleep through anything. The noise every time the family upstairs moved was pretty bad. The floorboards up there are paper thin and creak and thud with every step. They were up today at 630am - so were we. They ran or paced about until midnight, we heard it all. Loudly - the ceiling shakes. We are a noisy family with two young kids so I haven’t complained. It’s not their fault. But I would highly recommend this sound issue is addressed. If we were staying more than three nights I’m not sure we could endure it.

I stayed here last year & loved it I had apartment 20 which was beautiful & had sea view from veranda. On phoning to book again I asked for the same apartment but on arrival I had been allocated no32 cause you can’t check in until 4 I arrived after this time & didn’t want to complain as knew they would be full. Apartment 32 is in the seperate apartment up two steep sets of stairs - one of which is wooden & in my opinion is dangerous. I found them skippy & the strip of anti grip (literally 2 inches wide) is coming off on all steps. Because I was staying for 12 nights obviously I had bought a heavy ish case & now my back is in bits because of carrying it up the stairs (my back is that bad I’ve hardly been able to walk!! Something I wanted to do lots of in Cornwall). I really think of people are being allocated these rooms they should be asked about any mobility issues as there is no lift & the wooden steps are horrendous! I go down one at a time holding the rail so tight. There has been a lot of rain too so they are slippy. Apartment 32 is very dated (when I had no20 it was beautiful). It does have an amazing view - this is the best part!!! The apartment was dirty in my view, there is wooden raised ledges around the doors & kitchen space (be careful you will trip) and All around these were dirt - I think a good hoover is needed. There was cobwebs and spiders in most room. The free standing mirror in the en-suite was covered in dust, shower in main bathroom was grimy again very slippy - could do with a mat. The sofa in lounge is a bed sofa but just to sit on is so uncomfortable, table and chairs - cheap plastic chairs which I was nervous about using as thought they would collapse. Most of the cupboards I. The kitchen the nobs come off or have been replaced with odd ones, the dishwasher cupboard nob drove me mad didn’t matter how many times I screwed it on it would still come off. Had quite a bit of rain so had to keep sweeping it off the balcony as there seems to be no drainage system for the balcony. Oven tins hadn’t been cleaned they stunk of burnt meat. The bedroom has dated wooden furniture all of which is wobbly. The size of the bedroom could easily have a king size bed but it has a small double - possible 3/4 bed. Was comfortable. Curtains needed. The location is perfect to walk down to watergate bay. I am disappointed this year & definitely wasn’t worth what I paid. I did request the apartment I had last year but obviously it must of been taken. If I’d had the same as last year my review would have been glowing.

Thank you for your feedback and we are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with the allocated apartment particularly when it is one of our recently refurbished properties. We are aware you stayed in Beachcombers Apartments 20 previously but when booking your latest stay, already had a confirmed booking for the dates of your choice and therefore we had to allocate you a different apartment, albeit still a 1-Bedroom Double Sea View Apartment. Our notes indicate this was explained to you at the time of booking and you were happy to go ahead with the reservation and we can only apologise if there was a misunderstanding. For your future reference if it’s important for us to acknowledge any requests, please ensure they are stated on your written booking confirmation. The same applies if you have mobility issues or any other needs. If we are made aware in advance we will always do our best to allocate the most suitable property and assist as best we can. Having checked the booking notes there were no such comments made at the time of booking and as such in the documentation sent to yourself we confirmed a “1-Bedroom Double Sea View Apartment”, which is what we provided. Please be aware that all our apartments at Beachcombers are privately owned and individually styled by the owners. The apartment in which you stayed has had a number of recent improvements: the lounge, bedroom and hallway have been refurbished with new furniture in the lounge, a new double sofa bed, new blinds and new hard floors. The wardrobe and bedside tables are solid pine and the dining room table is solid wood with the chairs being a modern, albeit heavy, clear Perspex. We refute your comment that the apartment was dirty. On the positive side we appreciate you acknowledging to us separately that the view from your apartment was great and that you found the location perfect. We have been in contact with our site manager to ask for her comments on your feedback. She is disappointed to hear you were unhappy particularly as our team spoke to you on a number of occasions during your 12 night stay and you did not give any indication that you were disappointed with either the apartment or the cleanliness of it. Had you made us aware we would have been happy to attend and do our best to rectify any issues you were not happy with. Importantly, had we been made aware that mobility was an issue we would have looked to move you to a different apartment. We note your reference about the bedroom being large enough to accommodate a king sized bed and this is correct however we do not advertise such so this should not have come as a surprise. You state the bed is a “small double – possible ¾ bed”. This is most definitely not the case – it is a 4’6” standard double. We are also sorry the pillows were not to your liking. In order to try and appeal to as many people as possible we opt for medium firm pillows but we accept everyone’s preference is different and it is difficult to please everyone. We disagree that curtains are needed in the bedroom as it is equipped with a fully functional black out Roman blind. We accept again it is down to personal preference but there are no plans at present to change the window covering. We have not had any other adverse comments from guests to suggest this is an issue. Your comments about the steps up the apartment are noted and our management team are in discussion about improvements we can make to the anti-slip strips. Thank you for highlighting this point and rest assured we are on the case. Despite the above we trust you enjoyed your stay at Watergate Bay and we hope that you will decide to re-book another time when you can hopefully give us a more glowing review. When doing so however, please be specific with your requirements and ensure that any requests are confirmed back to you on our written confirmation. Whilst we cannot guarantee requests we will always do our best and in respect of specific needs due to mobility, be assured these are treated with the utmost priority.

We stayed from 19th July for one week in Beachcombers 8. Absolutely loved our apartment. It was clean and spacious and looked newly decorated. The beds were comfy including the pull out sofa in the lounge. Balcony overlooked the car park which we didn't mind at all. Nice views of the hills and nearby cows. Yes the wifi and phone signal is not great but we were on holiday so we were out most of the day anyway. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved the apartment. Spacious, clean and with great views. WiFi is unfortunately terrible which is why this isn't a 5 star review and because phone signal is so poor in this area this is one thing the managers should be looking to improve. Less than 5 minute walk to the beach we walked there and back in our wetsuits everyday. We enjoyed it so much we will definitely be returning next year. Was lovely to get a rattler cider and watch the ocean from the balcony.

Thank you for your feedback and your positive review. It is correct that a phone signal in Watergate Bay is almost non-existent. With regards to WiFi we are aware it is not great but it is not for lack of trying on our part. We pay for fibre to the cabinet and as such speeds are limited by what is available in the area. We are sorry you were inconvenienced by this.

Firstly, upon entering the flat, we are greeted with spiders on the ceiling and sand and wood lice on the floors. Check in is at 5pm! Check out is at 9.30am. If 7.5 hours isn’t enough time to clean a small 1 bedroom flat, you have some serious issues!! Secondly, we had a whole list of instructions to follow before check out some of them including: 1) put all rubbish bags outside in the main bins in the car park 2) remove all bed sheets, pillow cases, duvet cover, tea towels, oven gloves etc and put them into the provided laundry bags. 3) leave all cooking utensils and cutlery washed, dried and put back into the drawers. (Bearing in mind when we arrived all cooking utensils and cutlery were still left in the dishwasher!) So here’s how this looks: beachcombers have taken full advantage of using Covid as an excuse to lessen the amount of work they do! They tell us that due to the current situation, they have to ask us to check out by 9.30am and check in can’t be till 5pm to give them enough time to clean up. But they are also asking us to do half of their job for them, so please can someone justify this for us as it makes absolutely no sense! Please also be aware that when you ask for a sea facing flat, your view also includes a car park and another building so not worth the extra money whatsoever!!! We were given instructions to collect our key from a safe with a key code that needed to be entered but to our surprise, the safe was left open and anyone could have picked up and of those envelopes with other peoples keys. I could go on about how horrendous this property is but I think I’ve said enough!

Thank you for your feedback although we are disappointed by your low score and the reasons you have stated to justify it. Unfortunately it appears you did not make contact with us during your stay as we would have attended and assisted to hopefully resolve any issues you had. We are unaware of your booking details so it is difficult for us to comment on any specifics but we are very sorry that you encountered some cleaning issues. The feedback we receive on cleanliness is normally very good and on one independent website that publishes specific categories, the score for “cleaning” as 8.7 out of 10 (based on 316 reviews), so it is not a common issue. Most of your comments relate to our current protocols due to Covid which are based on recommendations from the government and key UK tourism bodies. A considerable amount of time, money and effort goes into keeping both guests and staff as safe as possible in these challenging times. We are sorry you do not agree with our protocols but we firmly believe we are doing the best we can to minimise the risks to everyone concerned. We can confirm that the points stated in your second paragraph, highlighted to show some of the steps we ask of guests prior to departure, are (at the time of writing) correct. These are our Covid protocols which follow best practices and these are standards we uphold. We are aware that different companies choose to interpret the guidelines differently and we make no apology that we err on the side of caution. We need to protect both guests and staff equally. Without the dedication of our hard-working team of cleaners, we would not be able to keep the business open. Already there is a great shortage of staff in the hospitality industry and if any staff member tests positive to Covid, following current government guidelines they have to self-isolate which puts further strain on everyone else in the team. Quite simply, without sufficient staff to be able to handle all the changeovers, we would have to cancel bookings and we are doing our utmost to avoid this. In these current times we cannot take anything for granted and despite the official lifting of restrictions today, 19th July, due to the continued worrying increase in cases, the management of our company has decided to retain most of our Covid protocols as we prefer to continue to keep everyone as safe as possible. Whilst it does not take 7.5 hours to clean one property, we do not have the luxury of one cleaner per apartment. Every cleaner has multiple properties to clean in a relatively short amount of time. Our team are doing their very best in very challenging circumstances and amidst an extremely busy season. We are proud of what they are doing. Your comment about the company taking advantage of Covid as an excuse to lessen the amount of work we do could not be further from the truth and shows you have no concept of the situation and the risks our team face on a daily basis. We are sorry you were disappointed with your sea view apartment. By nature of the apartment description all such named properties face towards the sea. We clearly state the apartments are 200m from the beach which means they are not directly on the beach. As such, it shouldn’t be any surprise that when standing on the patio or balcony that it is possible to see other areas such as another building and/or car park as well as the sea. The images we show on the websites where our properties are featured show this. Lastly, regarding the keys which are accessed via an external communal keysafe containing envelopes with guest names/keys clearly labelled. We are sorry a previous guest must have taken out their key and failed to lock the keysafe. This is irresponsible and we apologise on their behalf. For security we change the keysafe code regularly and only arriving guests are given the code.

My husband and I stayed for a week with our 4 year old. We had a one bed with sea view, just stunning. The apartment far exceeded expectations. Beds and bedding so cosy. Towels fluffy. Apartment was spotless with everything I needed, although I took my coffee machine because I’m addicted. 2 minutes walk to the beach, which was a surfing beach, spacious and easy to socially distance! A couple of restaurants which we didn’t visit and a bar next door where we had a great burger! No shops to get essentials but we arrived with a weeks worth of groceries so not a problem. The WiFi was a little patchy but on holiday, doesn’t matter! TV and DVD player in the bedroom and living room. We had a relaxing week, the apartment was amazing and we would love to go back!

Ok so location for watergate bay beach which is great for surfing is excellent.. Local eateries great.. Staff at the apartments are really helpful so top 10 marks for them.. The apartment is big enough for a family of 4 but we didn’t find the beds and sofa bed very comfortable.. Apartment clean and water hot .. WiFi terrible so download before you arrive especially if you have teenagers!! Seems to be a local bt network so perhaps if you have bt at home take your passwords.. overall for 3 day stay ok for family...
