My husband and I have just returned from a four night stay in Oceanside Hotel. The hotel is well situated for lovely walks and close to the bus station where you can get buses to all the main towns in Cornwall for a flat fare of £2. The buses also run from the airport (although we used taxis for airport). Initially we thought the hotel was slightly disappointing as it looked as if it was in need of decorating and our room was no different. The paintwork needs freshening up. The bed was huge and bedding lovely. Plenty towels and filtered water that can be replaced every day. We booked a room with sitting area both outside and inside and the views were beautiful. . The breakfast room was bright and airy with lovely views over the sea. the dining room/bar was lovely. The food was amazing!! Huge portions of delicious breakfast and dinner meals. We ate three out of our four nights in the hotel as the food was so good. One of the best features of this hotel has to be the staff. What an amazing team who are friendly and helpful (and good fun). Two people we must name are Wes and Sylvia. Wes was so attentive and communicated brilliantly with my husband who is deaf. He was great fun and remembered what we liked to drink, etc every meal time. He is brilliant at his job and a real asset to the hotel. Sylvia was also amazing. We watched her chatting to a young girl who was asking her lots of questions. Sylvia was so caring and kind to the young girl. Sylvia was also very helpful and attentive to my husband and I. We had a lovely stay in the hotel and although there have been comments about dog smell, we can honestly say that we never witnessed this. The dogs were all well behaved and actually added to the experience of the holiday. I would recommend this hotel for others. My only advice is about the decor and that could be solved very easily.

Sadly one of the worst couple of days ever spent when staying at any hotel, and never to be repeated there again at the Oceanside Hotel in Newquay. The photo of the room on their website my wife and I had booked for two nights did not do justice to the actual size, when was just over 9 foot square and barely adequate to be able to relax in. This meant having to edge on sideways to each other to get past and felt claustrophobic What sleep we managed to get was broken throughout the night and early hours of the morning with returning late night revellers closing theirfront doors, allowing the doors to slam shut with such a force that it sounded as though a canon had been fired, so it felt as though you were in the front trenches of a war zone. The design of the current front door lock mechanism is rough and basic, and providing some sort of cushioning is something the owners need to address The adjoining walls were thin so you could clearly hear what was said on each side and the sudden and clear sound of people breaking wind was tiring and added to the desire to get out of the Hotel and leave as soon as possible There was a musty dog smell coming from the carpets leading up the stairs and down the hallways owing to the welcome pet friendly slogan on their website, and indeed owners with their dogs were seen to be coming and going almost continuously, so not a place for people with allergies to pets I spoke to the receptionist on the desk when we (finally) checked out and when asked about our stay explained to her about our experience there, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears, and no mention was made about a deduction on the bill These are bad times indeed but perhaps the owners should think about closing the business or moving on

Response from Oceanside Hotel, Owner at Oceanside Hotel

Hi Ray, thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear you have not had a great stay with us. I have been the manager on shift all weekend except this morning at check out time and this is the first it has come to my attention I have had an unhappy guest especially as you stayed for a few nights - this could have been addressed during your stay. As for your comment regarding closing our 3-generation run family run business and moving on, we provide an income to 30+ local families on our team and enjoy the work that we do. We are always open to discussing how we can improve and take all your comments on board. Sorry to hear you will never be returning - we'd love the opportunity to turn this negative review into a good one. KS

We stayed for one night, 2 adults and 2 children. Staying in the quadruple family room. Plenty of space for all 4 of us, clean and fresh smelling room. The hotel is in an amazing location, an enjoyable short walk to the beautiful Fistral beach. Lovely sea views from the hotel. Every member of staff we met were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Really lovely. The breakfast was great, buffet of cereals, fruit, overnight oats, fruit juices, coffee/hot chocolate machine, plus you can order hot food and toast from the menu, freshly made. The kids had American pancakes with bacon, blueberries and syrup from the menu, they really enjoyed them. Us adults had the full Cornish breakfast, all cooked perfectly and good size. Lovely restaurant/lounge serving food or comfy sofas just for drinks. Lovely sea views. Also a cosy log burner. The atmosphere in the hotel really stands out, it’s welcoming, relaxed and comfortable. We’ve stayed near Fistral Beach many times over the years, as a couple and as a family. This is our first stay at this hotel and we would definitely love to return. If you like great beaches, lovely people, good food and a welcoming relaxed vibe this place is for you.

I don’t even know where to start! We had our wedding with you guys and it was the best day ever!! From start to finish we have no faults, everything ran smoothly. It was the chilled but organised day that we wanted. The staff were amazing and made our day, from looking after our friends baby to making sure our dog had plenty of water. We’ve stayed at the hotel a few times and have always had the best time, we’ve always been welcomed back & our dog loves being there, we can’t wait to come back this year! Special shout outs to Kelly, Wez and Cody, thank you for making our day so special x

Went here for our works’ Christmas party. The food was amazing! Very attentive staff who worked their socks off all night. The whole place was beautifully decorated for Christmas and a live band who brought the party as soon as they started. Well done Oceanside, we will be returning next year!

Great hotel, friendly staff and great breakfast choices! The hotel is lovely with plenty of character! The rooms were warm and clean. Ours was a family room and had plenty of space. Our bathroom was in the turret! Very exciting for the kids (and me too). I’m views out over the sea! Lovely velux looking over the golf course and sea; we loved snuggling up in the duvets in the morning watching the rabbits on the golf course! The communal spaces were great. We were lucky enough to be there during the fireworks weekend; they’ve got a great outdoor area with fire pits which were great in the cold November evenings. Our party had another room with a balcony which faced the sea so we had our own private view of the fireworks! Really lovely weekend! Thanks so much!

This hotel is lovely and we had a wonderful nights stay whilst attending the Miss Cornwall Drag pageant. Our room was amazing and the view was perfect for the price we paid. The breakfast had tasty locally sourced ingredients and the service was good. The staff are so friendly and helpful and our evening meal was fantastic. I can’t recommend this little hotel enough and we will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Although it was out of season, the hotel was fully open. There is ample parking to the rear. The room was clean and tidy with a fantastic view of Fistral beach. The staff were absolutely fantastic and nothing seemed to be too much trouble - 5 star service with a smile and great value for money. Will definitely use again when we are next in Newquay.
