Having walked from Crantock to Polly Joke, only stopping on West Pentire Point where my Fiance got down on one knee to ask me to marry him!!! We decided to mark this special occasion with a romantic evening.

We wanted a room with a beautiful view and a jacuzzi and searched a few different places in the locality. We came across The Harbour Hotel and at first we weren't blown away by the website. However with harbour views and a spa bath we decided to call up and enquire.

We were greeted on the phone by Claudia, who gave us a really warm and welcoming vibe, she congratulated us on our engagement and her positive energy and attitude made us decide to book!

We booked into the Dove room, spotlessly clean, perhaps slightly dated decor but I found it quaint and added to the romantic feel, with beautiful views across the harbour and spent a gorgeous evening in the jacuzzi bath with smooth radio and some port to celebrate our engagement.

We were able to take our Border Collie with us for an extra charge of £25 but he received as warm a welcome from all the really friendly staff as we did!

The next morning we had breakfast which was included in the price. Downstairs in a conservatory type area with views again onto the harbour. We enjoyed fruit juice, pastries, filter coffee and a full cornish breakfast and once again very warm and friendly service from Claudia who asked us for our feedback on our stay and if she could make any improvements.

We didn't feel rushed out of the building at all for checkout but received a very heartwarming departure with invites to come and visit any time we are back in the area.

Thank you Claudia and team for a lovely stay and memories we wont forget.

Richard, Rhiannon and Laddie 😊

We found this hotel last year and had a great stay and decided to book again so this is my 2nd review. This place is great. Very homely and perfect for us and our dog. This time we stayed in room 1 which is a larger room than room 5 where we stayed last year. There are 5 rooms in total. All rooms have an amazing outlook over the harbour and coastline. The views are amazing. The room was clean again and although Covid has an impact on daily cleaning routines the cleaner was happy to accommodate with top ups on coffee, toiletries etc. The room has a small fridge and a great balcony and is the only room with dual aspect windows which was great. The bathroom is large with a corner bath and shower. TV and free WIFI. Breakfast was tasty either cooked options or continental. The service was very good especially the spanish waiter (sorry should have got his name). Food here is really good and the restaurant food is exceptional. I have posted a separate review for the restaurant as it was that good! Make sure you eat in the restaurant highly recommended. Also get an afternoon cream tea, Its awesome! This place is all about location and there are plenty of other restaurants, pubs to choose from to eat.

We will be returning again soon.

Mike, Lesondra and Gladstone the bulldog!

My husband and I have just stayed for 10 fantastic nights at The Harbour hotel.

Parking is difficult, so, having secured a space right outside the hotel, we didn’t move the car for the duration! You could pay but it’s an uphill walk to the nearest proper car park. Buses go hourly to Padstow, Truro etc. so we used those and simply enjoyed relaxing at the hotel and on our balcony. The views of the harbour and other beaches are second to none.

For the 6 nights that The Harbour Fish and Grill restaurant below the bedrooms was open (same owner, different businesses), we ate dinner there. I have reviewed the restaurant separately. The food there is fabulous and the chefs top rate. All breakfasts are taken there and they were wonderful.

The staff all seem very happy to work in the hotel and the restaurant. Every one of them looked after us really well and were incredibly helpful. Aaron, the owner even bought me a wire basket to put in our en suite when I said that, for medical reasons, I had difficulty in bending down to the shower tray to pick up the shampoo etc. off the floor. He also provided me with a birthday cake with sparklers on it on the appointed day!

There are a few things which need a bit of attention: there is no grab rail in the shower and the floor is very slippery. The only ledge in the tiny bathroom was so narrow that we had to put our wash bags on an upended suitcase in the bedroom. The mattress is so hard that I was given a mattress topper to fold into four under the bottom sheet to help make it a bit softer. If you have any spare fat on you, you probably wouldn’t notice this so much!! The bedroom door can only be opened from inside by pulling on the tiny Yale latch and is a fire door so weighs a ton. A small handle would easily solve this. None of these problems is major and it wouldn’t stop us from staying again but they are a bit irritating and unnecessary. I have still given five stars as we had such a lovely time.

There are only five bedrooms (all with balconies) so it’s very quiet at night, such a bonus. Highly recommended hotel.

We have stayed at the Harbour many times and it has been lovely , we even had my partner's 50th birthday party here. However on arrival this time ( 16th Sept - 3nights) we were informed that our room wouldn't be serviced during our stay due to current Covid laws. When we challenged the government 'guidelines' not law the receptionist - Jo became very defensive accusing the previous hotel we had stayed in of breaking the law. When we entered our supposed sanitised room, the actual standard of cleaning was very poor, the toilet was dirty and the skirting boards hadn't been cleaned for weeks. When we complained Jo said we could have a full refund and find somewhere else to stay as she couldn't resolve the problem. ( this could have been easily sorted by housekeeping putting gloves and a face mask and cleaning the problem areas) I raised the issue with the restaurant manager and he said that a number of people had complained about the rooms not being serviced. The next morning we went to have breakfast and whilst I appreciate that the normal buffet of fresh fruit , cereals and danishes couldn't be provided I was rather taken back when I asked for some cereal I was informed that I could have cereal or a cooked breakfast but not both. Throughout the rest of the stay we had either scowls or the cold shoulder from Jo. She also commented that she shouldn't actually being doing this job as she was a consultant - that I have to say is the one thing I agree with her on. We weren't contacted in advance about the changes the hotel had made and it all seemed to me to be a way of reducing costs. We might as well have chosen a self catering place. Very disappointing when we had just been for a 2 night stay at a hotel with lovely sea views for half the price . That particular hotel had taken the decision that they could provide a safe way of servicing rooms during guest stay but we could opt out if they wished. I did observe that the Harbour cleaning staff didn't have any gloves or face masks on when they were cleaning rooms. We also noticed the loud music coming from downstairs when the restaurant has closed.

Such an enthusiastic welcome - the staff were friendly and eager to help. The room was very homely and everything felt hygienically clean (very important during these times). The views from the balcony were stunning. We stayed in the Good Intent room - very comfortable and tastefully decorated. It was a pity that we were there for just 2 nights, 26-28 October, however we were lucky with the weather, mild, good sunny spells, a few showers and some strong winds which gave some amazing seascapes. We loved this place, have recommended it to many friends and I'm sure a stay here in the middle of winter would be just as wonderful as one in the summer. Highly recommend!

This is not a 5 star hotel I’m afraid, (it’s barely a three star) so consider that before parting with your money. They charge 5 star prices but don’t come anywhere close to it.
The stay my wife and I had was blighted by rude staff (although to be fair, it was just the one older gentleman - the rest of the staff were fine) and numerous issues with the room e.g. no WiFi (the signal was fine at reception but did not reach our room), several faulty plug sockets, very feeble shower, to name just a few. There was also an unearthly, repeating noise before 8am every morning.
There’s no parking at the hotel and the street outside is very narrow and can only accommodate 3 or so cars (see photo). The hotel may overlook the harbour but it is far from the town centre so its location is also bad.
All in all a very disappointing stay, one that I won’t be repeating at this hotel I’m afraid, especially considering there are better hotels in Newquay that are better located and better priced.

We had high hopes for this staycation
The Harbour offers spectacular views across the harbour, however, this is its best feature.
The room was clean and towels replenished on request.
We tried to book a table for dinner but no one was answering the phone therefore we were squeezed into the last table in the restaurant on the evening of our arrival.
I understand delivering drinks and cutlery on a tray is a safe covid friendly, self service option, but when the glasses are piping hot from the dishwasher -I do not want to drink my white wine, at first, I was refused a replacement, but this was rectified at my insistence. In addition the mussels, were undercooked , the smaller molluscs were cooked to perfection but the larger ones slimy, no one asked me why I hadn’t eaten them. We were not offered desserts or coffee and had to pay for our meal rather than adding to our hotel bill.
We had intended to eat every evening in the restaurant but this soured the palette
Breakfast was good , lots of choice and plentiful .
We were told by the very helpful receptionist we could indulge in afternoon tea, however a waiter refused , blaming the kitchen ,the same receptionist insisted we return to the restaurant, whereby she prepared & delivered afternoon tea at no charge., whilst the scones were not fresh, we could not fault her service ethic, and her attempt to delight.
Due to its location, I have no doubt this is a successful business , but I wouldn’t stay here again .

My advice to anyone is to find somewhere else to stay!
Paid over £250 for one night & was expecting an amazing experience where we would feel spoilt - the only thing going for the hotel is the view.
Room was tiny with the smallest tv I think I’ve seen. Couldn’t access WiFi & despite being told telephones in rooms, nothing to be found - wouldn’t make a difference though as no one answers the phones anyway!
Hadn’t been made aware the lounge would be shut so told we could only order drinks to our (v small dirty room)
There were no Covid protocols in place despite staff telling us there was a high peak in Newquay hence bar closed. No temperatures checked & person booking us in didn’t wear a mask.
We found rubbish under the bed, so room clearly not cleaned to a basic standard, let alone during a pandemic!
Bed was also broken but manager said she couldn’t look at it until we’d checked out due to Covid!
We offered to drive home that night as didn’t want to stay, but refused a refund.
Shocking! We would have been better booking into a backpacking hostel. Being told that the hotel was ‘boutique’ hence the reason for it being shabby was not good enough.
We left before breakfast the next day and still waiting for a response from the hotel.
Save your money & find somewhere better (& cleaner)

The only thing 4 star about this hotel is the view. Our room, "Alive"had broken furniture, shabby carpets, black mould in the shower grouting, broken toilet roll holder and nasty stains on the radiator. There was rubbish behind the bed and even clothing left in the wardrobe from the last guest!. A vacuum cleaner nozzle hadn't seen the edges or around the furniture for at least 12 months. When I wiped the TV remote the filth on it was disgusting. I had to wipe the bottom of the wardrobe before considering putting my clothes in it. I was so upset at the dirtiness of a room which was costing us over £800 for four nights,( that you have to pay when you check in by the way) that I asked for it to be cleaned again before it felt useable. At least that got rid of the flies. I thought the 4 star breakfast would save the day but it was NOT 4 star. No continental choice to help yourself, just a menu that stated VERY clearly that there was a choice of one plate of food (one being a bacon sandwich OR an egg sandwich), and any further foods would be chargeable!! We were left hungry on the first three mornings but on our final morning it was a different chef who did us a hearty full breakfast with extra toast and jam. Apparently it had to be just jam....that was all they offered! Absolutely NOT 4 star, an average 3 at best. Your reception area is "sticky" dirty, shabby carpets and decor and needs more attention. Won't be booking again.....even for the stunning view.

We stayed here with our dog on Wednesday this week. The room was lovely, with a balcony overlooking the harbour. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Our dog was allowed into the breakfast room with us and as a treat was brought his own dish with two sausages! He was delighted! We will definitely visit again.

There is free parking directly outside, but there are limited spaces. The nearest car park is a 5 minute walk away. If I am given an eta on the day of arrival I can guarantee a place directly outside, but not on a day to day basis. Regards Alan
