Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went on a wet Sunday evening without a reservation and were surprised to find the pub so busy, mainly with diners (definitely more of a restaurant than a pub). I would say that the food was fine rather than amazing (I found my hake a bit overcooked) but full marks for the service, which was very friendly, quick and efficient.

When we arrived we were welcomed into our room at 11 as the room was available. The slight smell of fresh paint and the immaculate clean decor was impressive. Our room was overlooking the Scillonian ship. We had a beautiful room with a lovely shower room. Our shower was large and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was excellent. We were very impressed and will definitely stay here again.

Stopped off here for a drink. What a fabulous pub. Beautiful inside and very friendly bar staff. If we hadn’t of had other arrangements we would have eaten there too. Menu , home cooked food was good and food we saw being served looked fabulous. Lots of empty plates. We will be back. Loved the quiz cards too on the tables.

I highly recommend the Dolphin Tavern to stay and socialise in. We stayed 2 nights. The room was clean and comfortable and had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and bottled water available. The staff were all super friendly and efficient and we felt like we had known them for years by the time we left. We had dinner in the evening and it was delicious and good value. All freshly cooked to order as was breakfast. We will definitely be returning soon.

Went here Monday lunchtime for a beer and sandwich on a recommendation. Stood at the bar and we were asked if we wanted a drink, yes please and a sandwich if that was possible? Yes, find a table, which we did , and then we were studiously ignored by the female staff member serving other diners, who was by the way, the same person who told us to find a table. The pub was not overly busy We left after 10 mins of being completely ignored

We visit this place regularly and are never disappointed. Always a friendly welcome and quality food. Just wanted to leave a review after visiting yesterday for lunch - I had the seafood chowder and my partner had the trio of fish (both from the Special’s Menu). The chowder was amazing - the best I have ever tasted. Rich, creamy, lots of fish and a side of deliciously soft and tasty garlic bread. Perfection! The trio of fish was just as wonderful according to my partner and both meals were completely devoured and thoroughly enjoyed. This place never disappoints.

Visited The Dolphin by these reviews… On arrival, the place wasn’t overly busy. Arrived just after 4pm, Sunday lunch had already sold out. The child and ball’in chain opted for the homemade lasagna (£13). I took the homemade curry (£16). I was asked if I wanted chips or rice, chips this time with a side of onion rings( paid extra and Frozen (not fresh& homemade). Given some of the time on the special board, next to the sea and the price of the meals i.e fish dishes; I was expecting more than what we we got. We had to wait a while, a good 40mins and the bar manager( shirt & tie) did inform us that our meals won’t be long and are been plated up. So, the meal. The lasagne, arrived on smaller dish in dinner plate with a quite a fair size garlic bread and a bit of salad. Erm, no chip! You pay extra for them🙄. My curry, it had a nice hum to it and a few chips, 1 popadom. That’s was it. No finesse at all. The curry was ok, you could taste the curry powder and zero individual spices.Really was homemade and basic. The lasagne, both the girls said it was ok it even have the burnt edges around the side, on top.. So, the issue is .. the price for this. Certainly was worth what they are charging!!. We visited Taylay in St Ives ( Thai food), all freshly made and you could even identify all the different spices. It came with good size bowl of rice( variety of rice dishes to chose) which we had a few extra side too. Very nice indeed and would revisit. Bearing in the mind the location, sea front etc .. £70 plus drinks. Just no comparison at all with this meal at The Dolphin , yet £64 for lesser quality and quantity. I don’t recommend this place at all and would have opted to go Frazers chippie or The Navy Inn( rounds the corner). Plus, I’m glad I didn’t opt for the Fish dishes they had on the special board for fear of the price for one, plus the quantity and quality again. Well, you live and learn and wont be revisiting or promoting this place

Room Tip: Basic pub food and overly priced for what it is. Another eatery taking advantage of tourists.
