The House is more "British" than any of the other places I stayed in England. So pretty and idyllic. My impression of Liz the host is as a motherly, benign figure. She cooks wonderful, custom-ordered breakfast, and dutifully cleans up our room. When one of us fell, she did her best to do an emergency bandage, and gave us a walking stick for free to use. We were so touched by her sincerity and kindness.

My partner and I spent four nights at this lovely B&B. We were welcomed by Liz, the owner, and immediately felt relaxed and at home. The room was comfortable and we both had extremely sound sleeps, regardless of the very hot weather outside. The ensuite shower provided a nice hot , refreshing end to each of the well travelled days; we were happy. I personally ordered a different combination of hot breakfast foods each morning, because Liz organised a pre breakfast form, where one could do this. There was also a standard choice of cereals, fruit, juice and tea/coffee to help add energy to the day's activities. To sum up we happily recommend the Rosalie Guest House whole heartedly. A huge thanks to Lizz and her husband for their hospitality and for creating such a nice place to stay.

I wouldn't recommend the Rosalie Guest house, especially given the stay for me and my husband was ghastly and the worst we've ever had! First off, weeks after Boris had reversed all Covid-19 restrictions, we received an email three days prior to our stay saying that the landlady would only admit guests, with a negative Covid test. We found ourselves using a precious day of our holiday to search for a Covid test, which isn't easy in the highest peak tourist season in Cornwall. The 30-minute test confirmed we were both negative. When we arrived, we were so tired and hadn't slept well and were already dreading our stay at Rosalie Guest house. The frosty landlady inspected the evidence and proceeded to take more of our time to explain a very strict set of house rules; masks should be worn at all times when outside the room, breakfasts must be ordered before 9pm the previous night on a tick-box menu, if we needed to leave the building there were several layers of security and so on. There had been nothing in the booking that it was dependant on guest taking Covid tests and none of the other guest houses/hotels on our stay had not demanded it. It was also clear in the advert that parking was provided for, however this turned out to be on a crowded street where we struggled to park the car. We were eventually shown up to our room where there was barely enough room to take our suitcases. Although clean, the room was shabby and dull with safety notices all over the small stand-alone wardrobe; imagine four walls and a bed, an undersized wardrobe and a tiny shower with no bath. We immediately felt depressed and thanked our lucky stars we were only there for one night. By the bed was a six-page plastic document containing yet more house rules and regulations. It didn't feel like a guest house at all, in fact we felt more like we were in a hospital or worse. In the morning there were two regimented breakfast shifts and no room for change. Having not slept well on the uncomfortable bed we were very tired. We sat on a table but were quickly moved, for fear that previous guests had been sat on that table! The young girl serving breakfast looked very stressed and she was wearing a PPE hospital style apron. We asked for coffee and when we didn't receive any after 15 minutes, I started to help myself. "We're not allowed to let you touch anything!' she said apologetically.. We waited for what seemed like ages to be served and left the breakfast room at 9.47am where our order was wrong, my poached eggs were rock-hard and the 'Cumberland sausage' tasted like a factory produced mystery meat job made out of gristle and sawdust!. All guests had to vacate their rooms by 10am so no margin for relaxing. Don't these people know that they're ruining people's holidays by making us leave so early? Overall, this experience was underwhelming, over-priced and ultimately depressing; we only wished that the unwelcoming landlady had been even a little bit nice to us. Perhaps she was having a stressful day because we're friendly, nice people? A more appropiate career may be that of a prison warden as opposed to hospitality. There are plenty of far better guest houses on Alexandra road, so I'd recommend to avoid this one, you will thank me for it!

Response from Elizabeth Clemens, Owner at Rosalie Guest House
Responded 18 Sept 2021
Firstly thank you for choosing Rosalie Guest House, we are very sorry we did not meet your expectations. I would just like to say that after 12 years we have welcomed guests from all over the World and received some fantastic comments so your review was very alarming and personally offensive on my character which I feel is very unfair. I have always welcomed guests in the same manner with courtesy and clear concise information. It is essential I explain to guests how to enter and leave the building ensuring guests understand to lock the main entrance behind them. There are no extra security measures! From 18th July we introduced extra measures asking guests to provide a negative flow lateral test on arrival after having to close for 10 days when a guest arrived with COVID which seriously impacted our business. Most if not all guests have been very happy to provide this and feel we are providing as safe an environment as is possible especially when COVID infection rates were exceedingly high in Cornwall during July and August. We introduced pre order forms for breakfast which have been a great success, the 9 pm time slot was set to remind guests before they go out or retire to bed but it is not set in concrete. We also ask guests which breakfast sitting they would prefer to enable more social distance and continue to provide table service as an extra precaution, I don’t think this is an unreasonable request. There are 3 breakfast choices and all our quality ingredients are cooked fresh every day. I think you will find most Guest Houses have a check out time of 10 am but we are always flexible on this if guests make a request. Penzance is a very popular destination and the price of your room reflects the demand during high season. My business is everything to me and I take great pride in providing the best experience and value for money for all my guests.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Rosalie guesthouse earlier this month, post G7 and were lucky enough to secure some sunny weather to boot. Liz is a very welcoming host and really goes the extra mile to ensure guests have a relaxing stay. She is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the local area, and is happy to offer tips and suggestions for activities and excursions. There is a wide range of fresh and delicious food for breakfast - I particularly enjoyed the boiled eggs with cheese board and a full English (on different days!) The rooms are comfortable and well appointed - I slept very well. The guesthouse is very conveniently located for the seafront and central Penzance, and makes a great base to explore Cornwall. We will definitely be back to stay again!

We were here for a week. The room was a nice size in front of the house -- a family room, with a sofabed as well as double bed, and en-suite shower room/wc. it was clean, and Liz and her staff were very nice and friendly. The breakfasts were very nice, except that it took a couple of days for the chef to cook the poached eggs fully, as the whites were runny until I pointed this out -- it should have been obvious! The only gripe is that the bed was uncomfortable and needed a decent mattress, as our backs were aching which affected our sleep. Social distancing was observed as well as sanitisation, temperatures being checked upon arrival, and the staff wore masks. The house is well situated in one of the nicest streets in Penzance.

We stayed 3 nights in Rosalie Guest house. Very clean and covid safe. A generous breakfast with a wide variety of choices. Friendly helpful staff and a good location. The guest house is in walking distance of restaurants, the town centre and the promenade. Road parking not a problem.

Liz, the landlady of this guest house and her staff really run a tight ship here. The guest house is very clean, comfortable and they do a fantastic breakfast. We had a twin room right at the top of the house with an en-suite bathroom. Beds were super comfortable and the room was spotless. Parking on the street right outside and its free. We visited during COVID restrictions and all the safety measures in place made us feel very reassured. The guest house is right on the edge of Penzance, a short walk from Newlyn where we were attending a course. Very quiet and surrounded be some fab restaurants for your evening meal.
