Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was at the Queens Hotel on a 4 day Guitar Workshop. We booked at very short notice, because we had been let down by the original venue for the workshop. We were staying out of season, but, even so, the price was very reasonable for what we got. If you get a room with a sea view (I paid a mere £10 extra per night), you have a lovely place to sit and relax in your (very comfortable) room. The staff were accommodating, and went out of their way to be helpful. They were friendly and helpful without exception. Although the hotel is not one of those swanky modern boutique hotels, I loved its classic charm. I would definitely go back!

An experience I will not be repeating. Arrived for Sunday lunch on 15 October, shown to table, given menu and wine list then... nothing. Minutes went by and after about half an hour I told my partner we should just go and get a burger somewhere. He persuaded me to stay and begged waitress for a couple of glasses of wine. Eventually, waitress turned up to take our order. She said she'd been very busy. About six tables were occupied, so hardly being run off her feet. More waiting, before our first course, mussels, arrived. They were good, but it is the season and Newlyn Fish market is only minutes away. No bread to mop up sauce, which would have been both easy to provide and classy too. Another wait, then main course served. I had beef, which was extremely tough, accompanying cabbage was cold, carrots undercooked, Yorkshire pudding unremarkable, roast potatoes had a good colour and probably tasted good when first out of the oven, some time earlier. I asked for a steak knife, to see if I could cut meat, but no joy. My partner's pork was better, but nothing to write home about. Both dishes came with the same dark gravy, which was both lazy and sloppy. We did not order dessert. I did consider taking my plate to reception and defy anyone to consume the food, but thought my untouched plate spoke for itself. We'd been there for two hours and just wanted to get out. To say I was disappointed would be massive understatement. I have been offered a complimentary cream tea, by way of apology, but I never want to set foot in the place ever again.

I enjoyed my two night short stay very much. This hotel is set directly on the sea front where the Atlantic meets the English Channel with commanding views over Mounts Bay. This is a three star comfortable Victorian hotel built in Victorian times and has reassuringly, survived the terrible times of COVID. The food and staff, I experienced were very nice and accomodating. I chose this hotel as it has enviable position in Penzance. It is beside the lido swimming pool and ferry crossing to the Isles of Scilly to the East. To the West, the fishing village of Newlyn onwards to Mousehole and the Lands End peninsular. I looked forward to walking on the lovely Promenade. Very relaxing, what I needed, thank you.

We have stayed at Queens in Penzance annually for 23 years. It is convenient for us as we live in the Isles of Scilly. Generally it is fine and the staff mainly friendly. The building and rooms are rather ‘tired’ being an old building, but efforts have been made to renovate them as far as possible. Sadly, there is a member of catering staff, who has worked at the hotel for quite some time, who appears to dislike me. At breakfast she is friendly with folk on other tables then truly curt with me. Tonight she was serving at the bar and was actually very awkward with me, verging on being rude. In the end I walked away and went for a drink and meal nearby. Let’s hope she doesn’t have it in for you, if you stay at Queens. Anyway, needless to say , I shall not be booking with Queens again, after 23 years, it’s a shame.

I made a reservation for a 13-night stay in a twin room with a sea view, which cost a total of £1895.4. I paid upfront. Unfortunately, the room size was not as described in the information provided. During my 10-night stay, I experienced issues with the cleanliness of my room. Despite the hotel policy stating that the room would be serviced every third day, the cleaning was inadequate. Additionally, the bed was only changed twice throughout my stay. To make matters worse, I had additional guests staying with me for a few days (it cost an extra £45 per night for the extra guest). Despite making requests for the room service one day in advance, the hotel staff either ignored my requests totally or only partially completed the task. This led to me having to continuously leave notes at the reception, which resulted in a negative attitude from the staffs multiple times. Eventually, I had to change the bed myself. While most of the staff were friendly, two individuals were extremely rude. One lady gave me a disapproving look when I asked for room service again after they failed to provide it. I understand that we all dropped the ball at work, but what disappointed and frustrated me the most was the staff's poor attitude when I made reasonable requests, and their further escalation after I made complaints. The other lady banged on my door loudly after I made a complaint to the Booking agency to check out early and request a refund. She talked to me with a confrontational tone:” So, what is the problem?” once I opened the door. It was a shocking experience. This whole experience has been a complete disaster, leaving me feeling completely frustrated and apprehensive due to my sole presence and limited proficiency in English. I couldn't help but wonder if the staff were going through a tough time in their personal lives, but regardless, I hope she can overcome her challenges. p.s. If the room with a sea view costs more, please make sure to at least clean the window.

We stopped with you for a one night stay having stayed at The Queens many times in the early 2000’s and always had a pleasant stay. The hotel itself had obviously been refurbished and the room was fine apart from no Wi-Fi reception. However our lasting impression of the hotel was a bit disappointing. We came down to breakfast about 9.30 (on the advice of Reception) and 15 minutes later had to find someone to take our order. After another 20 minutes I again had to go and find someone to ask where our breakfast was. After another 10 minutes it arrived however yet again I had to find someone as it was cold!! So another wait to get a hot breakfast. Instead of spending the normal 30 minutes or so we were in your breakfast room for well over an hour. Two other tables near us also experienced a long wait. I appreciate that you appeared to be very low on staff, I counted 3 however good customer service means communicating with your customers, smiling and not to avoid making eye contact as your main manager/waiter was doing.

Room No 22, Was Misrepresented & Not The Nice Room Shown In The Pictures On This Booking.com Site. It Had The Ceiling Light Hanging Loose By Only 1 Screw Above The Bed, Which Is Dangerous and Could Cause someone a serious injury sleeping beneath. There is also a plug socket loose from the wall, and the view of the roof is filled with old planks of wood and Paving Slabs. The Key Card Cover/ Phone states that someone is available via Telephone 24/7 however the button to call front desk was not working on the room phone, and the assistant manager button rang out twice with no answer. Eventually after wandering the hotel I found the night porter who viewed the room issues and agreed to move me into another room. The replacement room was room 25 which Had A Faulty Shower with The Noise of A Drill/ Rattling Pipes on any Setting and Pumping of Water pressure.. the Toilet Creaked away from the fixture and the laminate flooring is bubbling up. The rooms carpet also has patches and areas coming up from the floor. Upon Checking In I was Asked to Specify a time for breakfast - which i chose 9am - I attempted breakfast at the allotted time however there was a queue where apparently others had not stuck to their allotted time which the receptionist said was out of the hotels control!( So Why ASK?). I overheard customers leaving the breakfast room shouting and also saying they had waited 45 mins for their order which arrived cold, so although breakfast would have been free at this hotel, I opted to decline the free breakfast and pay to eat at another establishment. Judging By The 'No Standards' at This Hotel I would not want to risk eating a breakfast which they serve up cold! Upon Making a complaint Sarah on Reception was defensive, abrupt and had a terrible attitude with no thought or care to the customers experience. The Promised refund was never issued, and then later refused.

Relaxed, comfortable, elegant, superb service. Staying for business is normally a corporate style thing, this is soooo much better. Comfy bed with a good breakfast. Fantastic view to have a read and glass while watching the world go by. If fact it's so good and so is Penzance for that matter, I'll be back here, without a business account in hand. Was expecting Agatha to pass me down the corridor any moment. All the staff are clearly working hard at doing it well, they are exceeding.

I stayed for the Bank Holiday as a friend was having a party. Loads of Victorian charm, outstanding customer service and amazing veggie breakfast. I have misophonia (noise sensitivity) & the main dining was quite noisy. Natalie very graciously arranged to move my table to an adjacent room, whilst ensuring I still had the famous sea view!. I really appreciated her kindness & will definitely come back.
