we stayed at the Western Hotel for 1 night which was in an excellent location. On arrival there was nobody around. On the reception we found a phone which automatically dialed through to other rooms in the hotel. Unfortunately nobody answered the phone so we were stood around waiting for a while, until the phone allowed us to try again. When the staff member came, we were pleasantly greeted.

Our room
The room was small and compact and a little tired, but comfortable. The staff member told us that WiFi details would be in the room but it wasn't (so we had to ask downstairs). There was a fan in the room, which we were grateful of because it was so humid. However, when we switched the fan on large chunks of dust that had gathered around the cage of the fan blew everywhere around the room, which was very off putting. Despite this the room was clean, and the shower room was very modern and worked well.

Cleanliness 7/10 (due to fan)

Breakfast
Breakfast was lovely with a small selection of cereal and yogurt, and the choice of a full English & pot of tea. We really enjoyed breakfast.

Staff 10/10 approachable and pleasant

We would return 😁

Checked in simple we were on the first floor looking over the town, room was spotless it had a double bed tea and coffee facilities, room is not huge but enough room for two, shower was great plenty of hot water and pressure it looked liked it was just renovated.heating in the room enough wardrobe space.tv had a good selection of channels, bed was so comfatable you can hear a bit of traffic about 7.30 but we were up anyway. breakfast was can you can order what you want nothing to much trouble very polite staff,we had the carvery and it to was very nice not stewed tasted fresh good choices of meat and veg.the pub next door which is owned by hotel was a bit dark and gloomy needed a bit of TLC and up dating and the posters taken off the windows to allow the light in but had a good tasting ale.location is spot on right in the middle of the town.the car park is a 5min walk up a steep hill and I paid 7.20for 24hours not bad really, co op across the road very handy.fantastic places to eat out.and a wspoons at the end of the Street 5.99 for a large glass of wine and a ale great value for money.all in all couldn't fall the Western great value for money and it's location been there before and will be back.

I visited this hotel two years ago and the return trip was disappointing.

Although the location is great and the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel no longer offers an evening meal or a bar with entertainment and bar food. The main dining room has been shut down with breakfast being served in a small room.

The cooked breakfast was basic and no alternative was offered such as a vegetarian option.

There is a pub with access from the street which did have live entertainment but but again no food.

This nice hotel has been turned into a bed and breakfast run on a small budget. Perhaps a change of ownership will take it back to what it was.

Perfectly located in the the center of the town, a five minute walk from the train station. Comfortable and clean rooms. Very helpful staff generally but a big shout out to Sue for a fabulous breakfast which was made to order. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay here again.

Staff were helpful when required, although I did not need them much as I was only staying for 4 nights. The room was way to small. I was a solo traveller but it was too small for me, I couldn't really move much in there. If you are a solo traveller I would suggest getting a double room still as the single room was just too small.
The room seemed quite dated and there were some old stains on the carpet.
The bathroom was also small. Some water was always on the floor although I couldn't tell where it came from, I moped it up but there was always a little puddle there every day.
The shower was just a shower hose attached to the bath tap so not very powerful, but I had no issues with hot water.
The walls were thin so you could here people in other rooms and walking up and down the corridors.
It was quite noisy in the evenings, as there was live music playing next door, also at around 1:30am there was a load of noise outside, people shouting while leaving I presume but it happened every night so getting sleep was difficult.
Breakfast was a standard British fry up type deal No buffet or anything like that, very basic, although it was cooked fine.
Location was okay, its a short walk to the beach and the main pedestrian part of St Ives, there are shops right outside and a taxi service nearby.
I'm not sure if the larger rooms are better but I wouldn't stay here again as a solo traveller, I don't think it was value for money.

I first stayed at the hotel 10 years ago. Since then the rooms, foyer and corridors have had a tasteful refit. Modern but in keeping with this historic building. COVID regulations are adhered to by staff. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. Sadly due to COVID restrictions the breakfast room and the Kettle and Wink bar are closed. The function room is now multi purpose which is where breakfast, evening meal are served and a bar is in operation at night time with live music on some nights. The breakfast selection is excellent, full breakfast is fresh, not greasy. Small evening Menu. We tried the Chilli and vegetarian Lasagne, freshly made, large portion and tasty. Sunday lunch is good value for money and very tasty. The room was spotless with a super shower and a very comfortable bed and pillows. I look forward to visiting Cornwall again and staying at this hotel again.

Where to start? The room was beyond small (room 10.) Specifie you do not want this room. The wash basin was in the room - bathroom too small to fit it in.
The bathroom smelled horrible. The room was hot, so naturally you open the window - you were then treated to the extractor fans from the adjacent indian restaurant!! The room now has two olfactory acts of terrorism competing with each other.

Please look at some of the pictures for £160 per night gets you in St Ives. Don't get me going about being unable to get in any restaurants!!!!

Absolutely wonderful stay. Perfect location.
The breakfast was spot on, Full English, cereal, toast, yogurts, fruit… the works
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
The only downside was that the divan bed base was dipped so the mattress was sunken slightly on the sides, so we were a bit uneven when we slept, but we slept “top and tail” a couple of nights which helped.
Very comfy beds when we got the right spot though.
Rooms and bathroom were clean and spacious

Parking was a bit of an issue as it was a busy weekend but we just managed to get a space at the Leisure Centre carpark, there’s a bus that brings you back down and back up the steep hill for £1.50 per journey, the bus stop is directly outside this hotel which was ideal.
We will stay here again when we’re next in St Ives

We stayed over for one night and unfortunately were given a front bedroom. We were kept awake until the early hours by the noise of pub-goers and bar-goers outside the front of the hotel and then were woken up ridiculously early by the delivery trucks delivering to the Coop opposite the hotel. Probably 4 hours sleep overall. The bedroom was ok.... but the bathroom was very old and the toilet didn’t flush well at all. We went to tell reception but nobody was there. They had a phone in reception that we were meant to use to call somebody but still nobody came.

Breakfast didn’t happen because we were 8 minutes late for our slot (trying to sort the toilet again) so make sure you’re there bang on time otherwise you will be refused! When we checked out, there was still nobody to be seen at the desk so had to just leave our keys.

We stayed in 6 different hotels during our time in Cornwall and unfortunately, this was our least favourite. Mainly due to the noise keeping us awake but also due to the toilet not flushing- yuck!🤮

Very expensive for one night and very poor value for money.

This was my second visit on a Sunday, once on my own in January and again this month with my grandson. They do a carvery both at lunchtime and again in the evening. I ate in the evening both times. You sit in the restaurant which is very pleasant and has an open fire. As a vegetarian I am impressed that they change the vegetarian option each Sunday which is a great idea. The choices of meat were very good but oh the veg is out of this world. Proper crunchy roast potatoes and the cauliflower cheese is amazing! The chef who serves up is a very happy chap and nothing is too much trouble. A great Sunday meal

There is a much more convenient car park (one without a walk up or down a steep hill) located just a couple of hundred metres along the road On the opposite side of the road to the hotel . It is a public car park which cost around £12 per day .

Further to my earlier answer, do you wish to contact the hotel with a query, or to make a booking? For booking, as someone else suggested, they seem to use a travel website for that. For queries the phone is the best bet in my experience.
