Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'd recommend the Borthalan to anyone staying in Carbis Bay! Quite apart from the stunning view of the bay from our comfortable room, we were treated to a wonderful welcome from the hosts Margaret and Martin. Delicious breakfasts, easy walks to the beach and the local train station (St Ives is only 3 mins away), made this the ideal location. The room itself had all conveniences, strong shower, tea and coffee (refreshed daily). Thank you! We'll be here again for our next visit!

I have never felt so welcome by anyone at a b&b/hotel before! Margaret and Martin are so friendly, helpful and lovely to chat to. They make you feel so at home, make the most delicious breakfasts and are so helpful when it comes to advice about the local areas. The room was really comfortable and we had everything we needed for our short stay. Our view from the room of the bay was gorgeous and it was so easy to get to the local train station. An absolutely wonderful stay - would recommend this beautiful place to everyone! Thank you Margaret and Martin!!!!

5 star, warm and friendly accommodation. Had the most amazing few days whilst attending a wedding at Carbis Bay. Margaret and Martin are the friendliest, most accommodating people I have met in a long time. Can highly recommend staying here and only a short walk to Carbis Bay rail station and St Ives. We will definitely be returning next year.

Lovely location not far from Carbis bay beach 🏝️ you can hear the sea at night from the window (lovely) the owners are lovely, nothing is to much, breakfast lots to chose from, cereals, full English, selection of drinks. Room is Clean/tidy, water was hot for shower, tv in the room included BT sports/Netflix, tea/coffee provided plus hair dryer in the room, clean towels everyday. Not far from the entrance is a little path to walk to the Carbis bay beach 🏝️ (steep hills) all over this part of Carbis bay. The walk into St Ives along the coastal path is beautiful with lovely views.

Really helpful friendly couple who couldn’t do enough to make our stay as lovely as possible. We were made to feel welcome to relax in the garden all day if we chose to, Martin bringing out drinks for us from the bar, then setting up a table inside one evening when we brought a takeaway back with us, beds are comfortable, what more could anyone need.

We chose Borthalan House as it is within walking distance of Carbis Bay railway station. The room was in the attic, small but still very nice. The ensuite is tiny but served our needs, with its shower. The breakfast room is a conservatory (light and sunny). The breakfast was very good (full English). On our final day we had to leave early but Margaret and Martin happily provided us with some breakfast.

Had a lovely stay here. Martin and Margaret are the absolute perfect, friendly hosts. We had a room with a sea view - a stunning sea view. Breakfast is fabulous - large choice and cooked fresh as you arrive in breakfast room. Very clean and tidy. A few minutes walk from the beautiful Carbis Bay. Parking available for your car. There is a lovely walk along the coast into St Ives but if you’d rather not walk there is a train service (few mins from Borthalan House) that costs £2 return to St Ives. Would definitely stay here again. Nothing to fault at all

Just had a wonderful time at the Borthalan guest house, the rooms are clean and tidy. Plenty of choice for breakfast and the hosts are really nice people, easy to chat to over breakfast. The hotel is reasonably priced and there is car parking available on site at the hotel and its only 5min walk to the train station and 3mins on the train to St Ives....Great location. And fabulous views from the room out over carbis bay.....I'd be more than happy to stay here again.

Stayed for two nights for a quiet break in a beautiful part of the world. This little tucked-away hotel didn't disappoint. Friendly owners, clean and bright accomodation in pleasant garden, walking distance from St Ives and local pubs, restaurants, beaches and attractions. Will be back.
