Visited as we were celebrating our five year wedding anniversary. After reading the reviews my expectations were indeed high. We telephoned the previous evening to confirm our reservation, Amelia answered and asked “what time will you be arriving” to which my husband answered “Mid to late afternoon”, “Perfect” was Amelias reply, however when we arrived at 15:20 the following afternoon our hosts were nowhere to be seen, doors of house wide open but not a sole to be found, and no sign welcoming you or informing you of any procedures should you hosts not be present. Attempted calling the phone number several times which could be heard ringing very loudly but was not answered. After waiting 40 minutes a rather dishevelled man came bumbling into the living room, we assumed he was another guest, but no such luck, this was our reluctant host! He exclaimed “I’ve been snoozing” then huffed and puffed and showed us to our room. We were absolutely shocked, no home baked biscuits for us, in fact, not even a luke warm welcome! A few moments later we unfortunately had to ask if we could borrow an iron, which is when we first met Amelia, who said to my husband “oh you checked in early?” I found this rude and a passive aggressive way to make us feel even more uncomfortable ( if this was possible ). As shown above, during the telephone conversation the previous evening there was no mention of this strict arrival time. After this very uncomfortable encounter we found it impossible to warm to our hosts. The room was pleasant enough, with lovely bed linen, but from 07:30 you could hear every conversation from the family in the kitchen which made a lie in impossible. Cooked breakfast was acceptable, homemade granola was exceptional, but I found Amelia false and unnatural. We never saw Tim again, I believe he cooks the breakfast in the morning. Other guests have given the breakfast specials rave reviews, at best I could say he serves basic, home cooking. The smoked salmon special was over salted and the salmon tasted like low quality off cuts, very fishy. I’m sad to say how disappointed we were with our stay, and obviously we would not return or recommend this place to others. …
A last minute change of plan for us 2 girlfriends, due to Covid-19 restrictions on overseas travel, meant a staycation & a choice to return to beautiful St Mawes. Nearwater B&B came highly recommended & I must say, our expectations were high, however, our 5 night stay here completely exceeded our expectations. From the great location, a 5 minute easy walk into the heart of St Mawes, the lovely decor, the super comfy bed & excellent breakfast (go for the special every day, you won’t be disappointed)... Tim & Amelia, the hosts, have the perfect balance to make your stay a most memorable one. If you like a good walk, go to Nare Head & also walk to St Just in Roseland Church, the prettiest church on the planet. We cannot wait to return. Nearwater gets a double thumbs up all round from us... 👍🏼👍🏼…
First I must say what a very wonderful and welcoming couple Tim and Amelia are. Serving us tea and just baked cookies on our arrival. Perfect hosts for 2 night getaway. Amelia spoke with my wife about herbs and her herb garden, allowing us access to look around. She then gave us two mint cuttings to get our own mint garden underway. Lovely clean rooms perfectly furnished with a great selector teas and coffee. A perfect little hideaway less than a 10 min walk to the beautiful village of St Mawes. Highly recommended 😊
Just had two nights here and lucky enough to get beautiful sunny weather. First visit to St Mawes and we loved it. Lovely hosts at this property and we were delighted with our stay. Had breakfast in the garden which was delicious and the garden is very lovely too. Tim & Amelia who run this B & B recommended to take the little boat and walk to Place which we did and it was absolutely stunning. Will visit again one day and chose this property again. Ideal location to walk to harbour and around St Mawes.
We had a really fabulous stay here in the self catering rooms, such a treat after lockdown! Our accommodation was extremely well planned, clean & comfortable, it was so cosy with the little stove fire when chilly & able to open into the pretty terrace & garden when sunny. The location is ideal for easy access to the beaches & seaside buzz of St Mawes. Our hosts were very friendly & nothing was too much trouble. We were very sorry to leave but will definitely return.
